Sharp hooks ?
I found the Trokars to be almost too sharp. Was tearing up my plastics much faster, and oftentimes when I hooked one in the lower lip it ripped a hole large enough for the hook to come out easily.

Using lures the way they were not intended
I just picked up a couple of these new Jackall buzzbaits that are intended to be able to be used either as a buzzbait or a spinnerbait depending on how you bend the arm. I got them with the intent of using them just like you described here. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Jackall_Gargle_Buzzbait/descpage-JGBB.html

Jackall Bounty Fish 158
Interesting. Have any pics with the treble hook added?

Jackall Bounty Fish 158
Thanks for the info. That’s the one thing that I was worried about, them getting torn up quickly. Guess I’ll have some fun with them while they last!

Being able to skip them into some tight spots is part of the appeal for sure, but the big attraction to me is that they look pretty unique. I fish a lot of high pressured spots, so anytime I can throw something they haven’t seen before I’m all about it.

Anyone tried these yet? Looked very interesting to me so I’ve got a couple on the way from Japan. https://youtu.be/sKmQvYhVfiI No idea how to embed a YouTube video here. Maybe one of you wizards can embed it for me.

Follow Up
100% of the time it’s a T-rigged weightless senko. If that doesn’t work I will wacky rig it and try again.

Buzzbait Advice
Trailer hook is usually not needed. If you’re missing a lot of fish it’s most likely because there’s too little space between the hook and the end of the arm. First thing I do with a new buzzbait out of the package is to maximize this space. Simply slide the paddle up toward the end (tie end) of the bait, slide the rivet up and crimp it. Now re-bend the 90 on the wire and cut off excess. Problem solved. as for the rest, pretty much answered… no need for a leader, use the MHF rod, trailer optional. Also consider taking off the skirt and just going with a plastic like a paddle tail or a craw.

Favorite Fall Topwater
I always have a good time fishing a buzzbait, but the Pompadour has become my favorite over the last few years.

Hammer Rods
Have this same rod and is my bladed jig rod too. Will also use it at times for spinnerbaits, jigs, and T-rigs. Love this rod especially for the price. Good sensitivity and really like the parabolic action.

Spinning Rod & Reel for Senko Fishing

Assuming it is open water... senko, paddletail swimbait, spinnerbait, jig. In that order.- Crankbait Storage
This is exactly what I use. No complaints.- Braid to Fluro
I’ve pretty much exclusively gone this route too because I don’t really find much benefit of using FC as just a leader. I use Smackdown with Big Game for a leader. For applications where I think FC is a benefit to me (pretty much just drop shotting and Ned rig) I just go straight flouro.- Pflueger or Lew’s.
Another vote for the president. IMO Pflueger makes the best spinning reels for your buck by a wide margin.- Best terminal tackle storage ideas
Well this seems interesting. I bought the “improved version” on amazon today. Will be here tomorrow. I’ll report back once I get it stocked.- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
It’s the regular (full size) Pompadour. The wings just look small next to those other crawlers. However, did you know that they do make a mega pompadour? 4.8” and 2 oz. Didn’t grab one this time but will snag one on the next order. https://www.ichibantackle.com/products/49156-JACKALL-MEGA-POMPADOUR/- Ned Jig Head Knot ?
It needs to be tied correctly (i.e. not crossed over itself) and lubricated when tightened. If done correctly it is one of the most reliable knots for the application.- Spinnerbaits now vs 10 or more years ago
I don't think there is much difference in the ones produced today versus 10-15 years ago. As for effectiveness, still one of my top go-to search baits.- Ned Jig Head Knot ?
I would not recommend an improved clinch knot on FC. I use either an SDJ or Palomar knot depending on the application (palomar for the ned rig).- Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Got in my shipment of JDM crawlers yesterday. Finally got hooks on all the Lobina Rico blems from the Christmas sale, so they are in here too. - Pond Fishing Lures
