BASS PRO SPRING CLASSIC flyer?
Thanks. I've been trying to figure that out. They usually have a few brands of baits discounted.

Re-learning how to fish
Before the jet I was limited to Frederic, Clarke, and the Conowingo Pool. Never tried Aldred. With the jet those spots are still in play (I still have the bassboat) and I have added Middletown, City Island, Fort Hunter and the Juniata. I haven't gone out of New Cumberland, Fallmouth, Marietta or Columbia yet.

Re-learning how to fish
Thanks for the suggestions. Turns out that the stuff recommended is what I have been using in the deeper pools. I just need to get better at reading the river and finding the fish.

Re-learning how to fish
That’s why we run inboard jets. No lower unit. ? In the spirit of full disclosure that picture is from when the river was at summer low. Even the kayaks have a hard time then. Normal flow has those rocks one or two feet under the surface.

Re-learning how to fish
The Susquehanna River is now my main fishery. For those that don't know it there are many miles of shallow, rock strewn stretches. Then there are impoundments which create lakes that are several miles long and deeper. For many years I was limited to those lakes because I was running a fiberglass bass boat with a prop. A year and a half ago I got a jet so I had access to more of the river. I have had some good trips but it has been like learning to fish all over again. The baits that I have been using in the deeper water still work but I am sure there is much I am missing. As we get nearer to better weather I am taking inventory and trying to figure out what else I need. What do you find to be your top baits for catching smallmouth in rivers?

Riversmallies.com
The site had gone down in late summer, but came back about a month later. At that time there were some changes made to policy and some members were kicked off. Seems to me that it was only up about a month before it was down again. That was back in October so it appears that it is gone. What is interesting though is that you can still read some old articles on the server.

Limp vs Stiff
Plenty of line reviews advise whether they are limp or stiff but never say what the implication is. I normally use braid and haven’t gone through many spools of monofilament to know the difference.
-
Limp vs Stiff
Get your minds out of the gutter. This is about fishing line. Let's use Trilene as an example. XL is limp. ST and Big Game are stiffer. What are the times to choose one over another? I can see an advantage of stiff when throwing walk the dog types of topwater. There must be other examples. What about spinning vs baitcasting reels? Is one of the lines better suited to the type of reel?
-
Clear vs Green
This would be going on the Pixy SPR which is designed for light line.
-
Clear vs Green
This isn't part of my original question but how would you describe the difference between XL, XT, and sensation on a baitcaster? I've been looking for a line in the 6# to 8# range to throw small jerkbaits and crankbaits.
-
Clear vs Green
Has anyone noticed a difference in hookups between clear and green monofilament when throwing crankbaits?

Kaden or Champ XP
Which Dobyns would work best for hard jerkbaits like the 100 pointer?

Line recommendation
Maybe my problem is that I am using line that is too light as opposed to it being flourocarbon or mono. I think I'll try something in the 8# range and see how that works out.

Line recommendation
I thought I had the answer to my question but it didn't work out. I got a spool of 5# Maxima Ultra Green and put it on the SPR. I used it to throw some small crankbaits and it worked good, but my last trip out I was throwing a Slender Pointer 97MR and lost it. I had a cast into the wind that gave me a very minor backlash that took no effort to get out. A few casts later and the Slender Pointer was out there and it wasn't attached to the reel. The line had broken on the cast the same as I experienced with the 6# Invisix. I guess I could try Maxima in 6# or 8#. I could also try the braid with wax idea. Right now I am very frustrated. I caught some nice fish on that Slender Pointer.

Lightest Line for Use With Baitcasters.
I have 8# PP Super8Slick V2 on a Curado 101D. That line measures 0.005" (0.13mm) and I have no problems.

Spinning Reel Size
So for clarification, 1 power is ML and 2 power is M. I do know how to load the rod. I was on the water today and tried throwing 4 grams on my M rod with the 2000 certate. Line wasn’t optimal for this at 20lb braid, but the bigger problem was that the rod didn’t load well. I was able to get a few good casts but it wasn’t what I want. That rod is 6’9” Kistler Helium LTA. Based on what I experience with the ML casting rigs that is what I am looking at in 7’.

Spinning Reel Size
How do you choose the size spinning reel to put on a rod for bass fishing? I have many baitcasting rigs but only two spinning. I have a 2500 Stradic on a 3 power rod and a 2000 Certate on a two power rod. I rarely use either because I prefer using the baitcasters, even for light baits. I have four BFS reels on 1 power rods that I use for baits down to 3 grams. There are times when I would like to get more distance with the lighter baits than I can with the BFS rigs. Accuracy is not terribly important in that situation. To achieve that I am thinking about getting a 1 power spinning rod. The question is what size reel to put on it. I recently discovered that I can get the larger size (2500 or 3000) reels with shallow spools. I am assuming that would help with finesse applications but I just don’t think those “go” with the lower power rod, but that’s probably old school thinking. Any suggestions?

Thanks. That is exactly what I needed to know.

Storing Zman baits (Direct response from Zman)
I resurrected this thread because I haven't seen my question answered here or in the other threads on this topic. I generally put bags of my go-to baits in the boat's glove box as I am heading out. When ElaZtech baits are in their original bags, will they melt other baits that are in their original bags if the bags are touching? What about putting a number of ElaZtech bags inside a storage bag, and then keeping them in a closed boat compartment that has other bait packages in storage bags?

Which braid to FC knot for dropshot leader?
I used to use the double uni. Most of the time when I needed to break off it happened right at that knot so I would need to replace the whole leader and bait. I switched to the Alberto and now the break is almost always at the bait allowing me to keep using the leader.
