braided line issue
I use that 20/6 Sufix and have no problems when casting with my curados. I have all kinds of problems when using it on the revo premier. Is your revo new to you?

Spinning reel size
For many years my main rod was a 4'9" UL with a 500 reel on it that I used wading for trout. Once I started bass fishing it took a while to get used to a 6'6" or 7' rod with a 2500 on it. I shudder at the thought of going to a 4000!

Yo-Zuri Hybrid
The last step in setting up my new tube rig is the line. I have never used Yo-Zuri Hybrid, but I know many here like it so I thought I would give it a try on one of the spools. I have a couple of questions. Seems that breaking strength is higher than the rating, so do you go down a size from what you would normally use? I am going to put it on a Certate 2000 and would normally use 6 #. What is the difference between the regular and Ultra Soft? Cabelas has green on sale - or would you stick with clear?

Slow reels
Wow, I sure have learned a lot from this thread. Thanks for all of the replies. So Chris, what reels have the characteristics you listed? I guess I need to take Crankbaits 101. I didn't know that going slow made the bait go deeper. I actually thought you were supposed to reel fast initially to get it to dive. So that is not correct?

Spinning reel size
Bird dog, thanks for the offer on the MGFB. I couldn't pass on the Certate deal so I got one of those. If I can add some $ to the fishing budget I will get back to you to see if you still have it. Thanks for your service to our country. Be safe.

Spinning reel size
Well, I never did this but I am about to pull the trigger. The Stradic MgFB 1000 is still available, but now the Daiwa Certate is on sale. I realize there is a large difference in price, but I am thinking that if I got the Certate in the 2000 size it will be more versatile even though it weighs more. Even at that, it comes in better than the other 2000 and 2500 reels. Since the Certate is a design that is a few years old, how does it stack up to some of the newer reels?

Would it be a waste to have 2 same rods, different ratio reels??
There is a little more to having multiple rods ready to go. There are times when you miss a strike with a moving bait and want to throw right back to the same spot with a worm or jig. Unless you are anchored in one spot as you move along different structure may call for different presentations. Another issue is dialing in the brakes on the reel for the bait tied on. And speaking of professional overruns, ever target a spot that looks great but you get one right before you reach it? Just pick up another rig and hit that spot. Then work on your bird's nest. To go back to the original question, it won't be a waste to have two rods that are the same. Use what you like.

Slow reels
And that accomplishes what?

Slow reels
Can someone explain the advantage of using a lower gear ratio for crankbaits? I have never used one so I don't know what you gain.

Fuego for spinnerbaits
Thanks for all the info. Someday I will realize people spout off without even knowing they are clueless. BTW - I know what line I will be using, I just didn't recognize the smoke line on snoop2's reel.
-
Fuego for spinnerbaits
What is the advantage of the smoke color? One reason I started this thread was this customer review on the BPS website: the only problem i have with this reel is that if you use it for anything that requires constant cranking like throwing a spinnerbait it will wear you out because it makes a 1/4 or 3/8oz spinnerbait feel like you are throwing an oz or more. Any idea what he is talking about?

Comparing house brand reels and name brand reels
If you can wait until after the first of the year Abu Garcia will probably put rebate offers up. They have done that the last several years.

Fuego for spinnerbaits
Thanks. I couldn't hope for a more knowledgeable recommendation. What line do you have spooled on that Fuego?
-
Fuego for spinnerbaits
I am thinking about getting a Fuego to put on a Loomis SBR812. I don't have any Daiwa reels so I don't know what to expect. How will this set up work for tossing 3/8 and 1/2 oz spinnerbaits?

Cheap Reel
You can always use it for the BPS reel trade-in sale.

Shimano Curado vs. Revo Premier
I have the Curado Ds and Premiers. The Premier will throw lighter baits ok if you have the proper rod, but the Curado will be more forgiving. I have found the Premier to be very finicky with its breaks. It took a while, but I did get them dialed in and only use them for one app so I don't need to change anything. I also think the Curado is more comfortable in my hand.

Guidewear
I wasn't sure which forum to put this in so mods feel free to move it. I want to buy some of Cabelas guidewear, and I would rather not take the trek to the store to try on for sizing. Can someone tell me how the sizes run? I normally wear a large, but I want the uninsulated and I will layer underneath. Should I get an XL, or will the large be OK?

Crankin' w/ mono vs. fluoro
Am I right that fluoro get them deeper than mono because it sinks whereas mono floats? How much deeper are you talking about? Where do the copolymers fit in this?
-
Chronarch 50MG
Because of it being more of an all-round reel? Or a better reel period?
-
Guide alignment
I just got a Kistler LTA that I ordered and found that the first guide is not in perfect alignment with the rest. It is off by 5 or 10 degrees so that the edge of the guide is in line with the center of the others. Aside from the visual aspects of this, will it affect casting or retrieving? I am inclined to have it replaced, but that will be a PIA. Should I try to bend it?
-
Chronarch 50MG
Thanks. That is not the answer I expected. I have 5 Curado 101Ds and one Chronarch 51mg, and since I fish mostly for smallmouth I make sure the 51mg is on the rig I use most. I have not had an opportunity to try the Curado E. I need to get another baitcaster and was thinking about another 51mg.
-
Chronarch 50MG
There are still some of those available NIB for around $180. Where would these fit into the current Shimano lineup? Meaning, at that price would you get the 50mg or the Curado E, or would you still go for a higher price reel?

Another need a reel thread
Thanks for all of the advice. I think my best strategy will be to get the best reel I can on a Black Friday deal (or other closeout) and shuffle everything I have since the consensus is the flipppin switch could be a problem.

Another need a reel thread
Are you saying it is important to completely stop the spool with your thumb before letting up on the thumbar?

Another need a reel thread
I see - Flipping Model ETX10HFC. If the feature can be turned on or off, is there a downside - if it turns out I don't care for it just leave it off?
