Braid & backing
Is that for tying knots? I was going to use 20/6 braid, but I was going to use heavier backing than 6#. That's probably fine, we rarely (never) get to the knot anyhow. Exactly. I always try to have the same diameter of line to backing, or as close to it as I can reasonably get. For leaders I try to go one size up. But why? Are knots stronger when using the same diameter or does the line spool better or something else?

Kistler LTA 08'?
The Kistlers that are on sale at Cabelas are 07 rods. If they have the length and power that you want I wouldn't let that stop you from getting one. It is a good deal.

Kistler LTA 08'?
In their LTA forum Trey answered that question and some others for me.

Braided for soft plastics?
That seems to be a popular size for many applications. Why?

Braid & backing
Is there some rule of thumb regarding the ratio between braid and the backing you use, or do you just put 100 yards of braid on and fill the rest with backing?

Shimano rebates yet???
My understanding is that a discount like that will not disqualify you. Getting yours will confirm it though. When did you send it in?

Did anybody get rejected?

Spinning vs B/C for Worm & Jig Fishing
What about fishing a jig or shakey head in deep water? Add some current or wind and the need for a heavier weight. Would a spinning rig make more sense so that you don't get a backlash when you hit the bottom?

Cabela's Codes
Thanks, but I was looking for overall percent or dollar off coupons. I was hoping someone would have gotten an email with one.

Anybody have a promotional code to use at Cabela's online site?

new spinnerbait set up question
I agree with this, don't spend alot for a rod for spinnerbaits. You can get some good rods at Bass Pro or anywhere for that matter. Which of the BPS rods would you suggest?

new spinnerbait set up question
I thought the reason for using a medium action rod with mono on cranks was so that the treble hooks would work well. Since a spinner bait has a single hook would it make sense to use that medium action rod with braid for spinnerbaits? Then the bass could inhale it and you would still be able to get a better hookset.

Snaps
Does anyone put snaps on the line when fishing cranks and topwater to make changing them easier? Do they help or detract from the lures action?

BPS Crankin' Stick
Braid also has a thinner diameter so you get more depth out of your cranks. But I still use mono. Plus you can toss it farther.

Hell has frozen over
Since I am new to the board I don't get it????? What size did you get and what are you putting it on?

BPS Crankin' Stick
Anybody use these for spinnerbaits? I got 3 while they were on sale and I'm trying to decide how to set them up. Two 6'6"M will be rigged with 12# mono, but I was thinking about putting braid on the 7"M to use with medium divers and spinnerbaits. What do you think?

Sufix
Can someone explain the difference between Siege and Elite? When do you use one over the other? Edited: OK, I figured out that Elite is supposed to be more limp, and Siege is supposed to be more abrasion resistant. Can anyone say that there is a noticable difference when fishing with them?

Pflueger Supreme Spinning Reel
I went back and looked at all of my other choices again and keep coming back to the Supreme. Since it will be on a Kistler the light weight really appeals to me. I have read that other reals can bind up if they get dunked. Any issues with the Supreme? Will I hurt it by giving it a bath after using it in the Potomac?

Travel Case for rods
My impression is that the plano is very sturdy. Mine has not been dented through normal use; I have not jumped on it to see how it would fare. Another thing to keep in mind is that something that long is awkward, and I don't think the bagage handlers can treat it that roughly. Drop it, sure. But when I packed my rods in it I wrapped bubble wrap around them to make a cushion and to keep them from bouncing around inside the case. Crush it, I doubt it. They can't really pack things on top of it or it will roll off. Just be careful to check it over to see if it was opened before you leave the airport. If it has been, re-open it on the spot and make sure the rods were not damaged.

Travel Case for rods
I went through this a year ago. I wound up getting the Plano Airliner. I did make to Florida and back without anything getting broken, but I do feel lucky because they opened the case on the return trip to inspect it. I say I was lucky because you need to be careful when putting the top on so that it is in the right place. If not you run the risk of breaking a rod tip. Next time I travel with it I will be sure to clearly mark the adjustment points for the correct length. You should also pack the rods inside so that the guides are facing in and secure them. That way an oaf can't bend one putting it back together. If you make your own make sure the airline can take it apart and put it back together instinctively.

Pflueger Supreme Spinning Reel
Hmm......I am going to be fishing the tidal Potomac this spring which can be brackish in parts. Will that hurt the Supreme?

Pflueger Supreme Spinning Reel
So if we are using braid, should it be sized to the normal diameter?

Pflueger Supreme Spinning Reel
Thanks. I am going to put it on a Kistler 6'6" MH that is rated up to 3/4 oz. I do like the idea of a slightly smaller reel without getting into the tiny category. Update: I found this info at their site. 25 = ultra light (this is the small standard size reel) 30 = light freshwater 35 = medium light freshwater 40 = medium freshwater 50 = heavy freshwater/medium saltwater 60 = medium saltwater 70 = heavy saltwater 80 = heavy saltwater
