  1. Brian, these tips are right on. The State Park ramp is on the widest part of the lake. On any weekend it will be getting churned up by 10 AM and you won't want to be out there with your boat. Memorial weekend will be worse, plus that is the weekend many new boaters are out for the first or second time. Idiots + newbies = zoo. Work your way around to that no wake area and you will be fine. Hey MD - I found that hump last summer and tried fishing it with no luck. Do you target the upper part or the drop?
  2. Got it and fixed it. Thanks.
  3. I had my Revo Premier out for the first time and it locked up. Turning the handle makes the line guide move back and forth, but the spool won't engage. The thumb bar is down but won't come back up. I tried to take it apart - got the handle, drag, and screws out but the side plate won't come off. Is there a trick to un-jamming it or how do you disassemble it?
  4. Are those 1/8 and 1/4 lb. spools a promotion, or will they continue? My local BPS doesn't have any, and the online selection is sparse. Does any other store carry them?
  5. A number of places have the older model of the Shimano Clarus on sale for $39. I don't have one yet, but am thinking about it for an application I don't run into often. It does get good mentions.
  6. Well, let me ask another way. I am trying to figure out which of the reels is better at tossing light items. I know how the Curado performs but not the Premier. How is the Premier at tossing 4" weightless senkos?
  7. No, this isn't about which one to buy. I have some Curado 100Ds and just got a Revo Premier. I want to replace one of the Curados but don't know whether to use the Premier for pitching 3/8 to 1/2 oz jigs with trailers on braid or to use it to throw t-rigged worms and creatures weightless or with light weights on fluoro. I haven't used the Premier yet and would rather not spool it up and then want to change it. Which way would you go?
  8. I can fit a 7' rod in my Z4 even with the top up. Handle goes in the passenger foot well, up between the seats, and the tip just touches the rear window in the corner. Shouldn't be a problem in any car with a back seat.
  9. I don't think the learning curve is big as long as you know you can't just go out and heave it as hard as you can (which is what I did the first time I had one in my hand.) You can throw weightless 5" Senkos with it. I have done it. It is harder with smaller ones and if the wind is in your face.
  10. I use both. I think I can control the casts better with the baitcaster, and I use it for topwater as well as cranks and spinnerbaits. If I am throwing a Senko weightless I tend to use the spinning, especially for the smaller sizes and if there is wind. I also find the spinning better for skipping under docks and branches. I will use both for jigs depending on how big they are. A real big advantage of baitcasters is that you don't get line twist.
  11. Interesting. I didn't realize there was that much variation between stores. My store had it marked down to $99.97. Then they had 25% of all clearance items (which it was.) They only had spinning combos also but that is what I wanted.
  12. Since I am about to go on vacation and wanted another rig to take along, I couldn't wait for another deal. I pulled the trigger and picked the Triumph/Capricorn combo for $65 after the coupon. Quality seems pretty good for this price point. I will throw a couple of lures with it and see how it feels, but I think I did pretty good for an extra rod on the boat.
  13. Which one would be comparable to the Triumph?
  14. I want to get an inexpensive combo to have on the boat for my kids or wife to use. Dick's has their Daiwa Capricorn XTC paired with the St. Croix Triumph on sale for $75, plus I get another $10 off with a coupon I have. I have used the search function and I have read what everyone has had to say about the rod and reel. I think it sounds fine for what I intend to use it for. Does anyone know of a better combo in this price range?
  15. How do you pick the color?
  16. Ooops. I thought I had clicked on the fishing tackle forum which is right above this one. Is there a way to move this?
  17. Do these things work when you snag a tube or jig, or just cranks?
  18. There is a thread going about favorite trailers. Does anybody have any insight with regard to using one vs. not? I am not trying to be a wise guy just trying to learn.
  19. I only had light spinning rigs, so I just got a MH setup. I intend to use it for skipping docks and jigs & shakey heads deep. I also have M and MH baitcasters and I didn't like them for skipping or times when I need to get down deep. I got too many backlashes.
  20. I needed (?) to get 6 new rigs this year. When the Crankin Sticks went on sale for 26.50 I got three. I figured at that price if they weren't all they are cracked up to be it was not great loss. So far I am pleased. Will I replace them down the road? Only time will tell.
  21. I don't think you should worry yet. give it another week or two.
  22. Cutting mono or fluoro is easy with nail clippers. I haven't had luck using them on braid, and switched to a very sharp pocket knife. Is there a better tool?
  23. Be aware that the BPS crankin stick is a new design this year. I got some of the old design when they were on sale for $26.50. I haven't used them yet, but I did weigh a 6'6" medium and it came in around 4.7 oz. I figured at that price I can use them for a while and if it turns out they aren't my favorite they will get set up with cranks that aren't used much.
  24. What about reels that have a beveled front edge on the spool like the newer Shimano reels? Do you spool them up to where the bevel starts (which seems to be 1/8" from the outer edge) or 1/8" lower than that?
  25. What about spinning reels like the new Shimano reels that have a beveled front lip on the spool? I haven't measured it, but I would think you fill it right to where the bevel starts. Correct?
