  1. I have a BCR 852 GLX and a MBR 842 GLX. Can anyone tell me, besides the split grip and guides, how the JWR compares to them? I currently use the BCR for tubes with a 1/8 to 1/4 oz weight and the MBR for weightless senkos. I am looking for something to use with smaller worms on a slider head. I already have a Dobyns DX701 for even smaller baits and could get a 702, but I want to learn about the JWR before I decide.
  2. I use braid with a fluoro leader often. Braid is usually 15 to 20 lbs and I'll put on a 6 or 8 lb leader. I have been using a uni to uni knot at that end and usually a palomar knot at the terminal end. Most of the time when I get hung up and need to break the line it happens right at the leader knot so I need to re-tie the whole thing again. Is there a better knot to use to tie on the leader, or should I use a weaker knot at the terminal end so it breaks off there?

I just started using frogs. Does that bite stop at some point in the fall as the water temp falls?
  4. Thanks, AVC66MF sounds perfect.
  5. Would the cranking series or casting series be better for 100 size Sammys and Spooks?
  6. Good stuff. Thank you.
  7. This is a variation of the after the rain threads. I am going to a lake that is at 90% capacity. The power company is going to start releasing water to get it to pre-storm levels, but very gradually. Will the bass back off the banks completely? Where should I be looking for them?
  8. I have a Steez 103HA and a Chronarch 50MG. With respect to very light lures, would the Pixy be between the Steez and 50MG, or the best of the three?
  9. I have been working on learning how to use Charlie Brewer slider jigs and baits, including reading his book. His suggestion from the time frame when he wrote the book was to use short, light rods. Since I had one of those 4'9" ultra lights from that era I rigged it up, but I can't get comfortable with it after using more modern stuff. Time to buy a(nother) new rod! I was thinking about the G Loomis DSR820S GLX. Seems like the specs are right for a 1/16 oz head with a 3" or 4" slider bait, and will function in the manner that Charlie recommended. I could also use it for DS in shallower water and other small stuff. Any thoughts or other suggestions? I have other M and higher spinning and casting rods, so I don't need versatility.
  10. Maybe they will just lower the price of the core.
  11. I ordered one on the 6th and it shipped yesterday (8th). Have you looked at your order on their website? I did not get an email, but the status on the order changed and there is a link to track it.
  12. How does the Pixy compare to the Steez?
  13. Sorry, I should have been more specific. I intend to use it for slow, bottom contact presentations.
  14. I already have the MBR 842 and agree that it is a great rod. I use it as my Senko rod. This time I was looking for something a little different. The BCR sounds like it has a little stronger tip.
  15. Thanks for the info - that answer surprises me since it is listed as a worm and jig rod with XF action. Maybe you can teach me something about tube fishing. Why do you like it for that application and not small jigs? What size tubes and jigs did you try?
  16. I am going to get either the GLX BCR802 or 852 for small jigs and tubes. Is the length difference just a matter of preference, or do the rods fish differently?

Thanks. What about the Spider Slider Head, and what about the ones where the eye is at 90 degrees (original and super)? Here is a link. Charlie Brewer's Slider Company

There are several different types of slider heads by Charlie Brewer. Can someone explain when to use one design over another?
  19. Assuming the fish were handled properly and survive, what happens to bass after they are released after weigh in? Do they stay in the general area where they were released or do they tend to migrate back to where they were caught? How long do they stay spooked before they will start to feed again?
  20. Thank you. That is what I needed.
  21. Does anyone have the formula to calculated the line capacity of a reel when you know the capacity in a line diameter that is different than what you are going to use? I want to put 20/6 braid on a reel that is rated at 120yds at 12# test.
  22. If it's fine, why're you using it just for backing? I mean, if its in perfect working condition, why not use it as mainline? It's fine, isn't it? You're not going to worry about sticking a fish with your favourite jerkbait and leaving that jerkbait in the fish, and the fish eventually dying because your forty year old mono doesn't have knot strength anymore, right? Because the line's fine, right? No, because I use braid. The mono is for backing.
  23. I found a spool of mono in an old tackle box that is over 40 years old. It is fine. I use it and other spools that are 25 years old for backing.
  24. I know what the differences are between the 100 and 103, and I know that the general feeling is use the 103 for pitching light baits and the 100 for casting distance. I want to use one for 1/4 oz crankbaits. If I put 20lb braid on a 103 will I get the reel to cast light lures but still have casting distance?
  25. Get a Swiss Army knife that has scissors.
