Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I forgot about that gizzard shad lv500. I wanted that too. Mine is a French pearl sakura. I don’t throw lipless much and none that color. Maybe it will be good in muddy water. Thanks for the comments on the swimbaits and finesse jigs. Out of all the things in the box, I am betting I will catch more fish on the finesse jigs than anything else. They look like they are high quality.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Got the Ben and Griff’s Xmas bento from Hookup tackle. Quite a haul for $200. Retail price for all of the below is around $640! The most useful baits for me are the hard baits and jigs. I’m not sure if the swimbaits and glide baits will be used much, if at all. The raid plastic baits are interesting but at retail of I think $9.99 a package, I don’t think I’d repurchase. The whip worms look like a cross between a senko and a finesse worm. Has anyone used these swimbaits, glide baits and whip worms and had success?

Daiwa Rebellion Rods Discontinued?
Wow. I have the 7 ft ml spinning and the 7 ft heavy baitcasting rebellions. Love both. Only rods I have that I consider better are the model a Expride which I picked up cheap when the b model came out. Curious to see what the replacement will be.

Tackle Warehouse new website
I don’t like the new site. Stinks on an iPad. Too much scrolling. Pics are too big. Searching by brand categories is broke. I sent an email to them voicing my displeasure. If enough people complain, maybe they will fix or bring back the old.

New rod!
I have the 7’3” heavy casting rod for jigs and the 7’ spinning ml spinning rod for finesse. Both are very sensitive and lightweight. Love them both. I think they are better than the tatula elites. I agree with pbbrandon and northernbasser comments. I did have to get a replacement spinning rod (warrantee freebie) because it broke near the top at a guide that had a sharp glob of epoxy. I was fighting a 1.5 lb bass when it broke. Replacement rod has been fine.

Lew's Team Signature Andy Montgomery skipping rod
Not sure what chat gpt is. I meant that around 15% of rod length flexes with moderate load.

Lew's Team Signature Andy Montgomery skipping rod
That is exactly what I was thinking and my situation. An extra problem for me is that I am short. I have several nice jig rods but they are over 7’. They don’t work well for me skipping. Also, My boat is a tin vexus. I don’t think it sits very high off the water. In Montomery’s skipping video with Evers, Evers wants to skip better and asks Andy for advice. Evers has two rods, a shorter rod and a longer rod that he normally used for skipping. Andy told him because he is short, he will be much better off with the shorter rod. Evers chose to listen to him and use that shorter rod. Evers admits that it is easier for him with the shorter rod and he thought he was more accurate. Although Andy was sort of promoting his rods, Evers was not using one. He had rods with the right action as described by Andy in the video. I think it was a good video from someone that is considered one of the best at skipping. The reason I bought that rod was there are not that many shorter rods with the action needed. I got it at at great price and figured it would be worth a try.

Lew's Team Signature Andy Montgomery skipping rod
I just got the shorter Montgomery rod from midway a few days ago for I think $130 ish bucks on sale. I was hoping to handle one before buying but at that price I was forced to buy it… Just put a reel on it today as a matter of fact. I have not fished with it yet. Tied on a 1/2 ounce jig with a baby dbomb trailer to get a feel for it. I think it will load fine with that. It looks sharp. Not as nice as an Expride or a rebellion but I think nicer than a tatula elite as far as looks and feel. It’s got around 15% flex I think. I’ll try it out when the weather gets in the 50’s and post here afterwards. All of my other jig rods are over 7’. I’m vertically challenged, so I hope it makes it easier for me to skip.

The Tackle Trap
In the summer, I ordered a Diawa Tatula reel and a Diawa rebellion rod. Before I ordered, I talked to Gary to get info on the rebellion rod. Everything was packaged well. Got them in 2 or 3 days, standard shipping. I live in tn which is not that far. It takes over a week for tackle warehouse. They don’t have as big as a selection as tackle warehouse. That is the only downside.

I think you will like that rebellion. I have that model and use it for Ned rigs and light shakey heads. Light and sensitive

Lew's XD Series Crankbait Casting Rod?
So my 6xd rod arrived this morning. The rod was lighter in weight than I expected. I really like the grips. Seems well constructed. I paired it with a lews tournament pro lfs spooled with 12 lb Pline fluoro. I tested it out for about 30 min this afternoon, after giving up trying to catch fish in 38 deg water on jerkbaits, shadraps, tailspins, blade baits or frittside 7…. I first tried a 6xd and a spro 70 dd, deepest diving cranks I have. Rod loaded great and really launched them. However, reeling in these, I thought the rod had too much tip and was too flexy. I don’t think it would be pleasant cranking a 6xd with it all day. Next, I tried a 5xd, Norman crank (forgot the name but it hits 14-16 ft), and a spro dd 60. Casts very well. The rod did okay with those when I reeled them in. Tried a rapala dt 10 and Berkeley dredger 10. Rod casts okay, but rod is slightly too stiff for these. I have a 7’6” mh cashion elite mod fast rod that handles those better. I tried a Berkeley flicker shad for kicks. That did not cast well, which I expected. I did not get any fish to strike so I can’t comment on that aspect. My opinion is that the 6xd rod performs best with cranks that hit 12-16 ft range. Although it is rated as an “Xfast,” it seems more like a fast to me. I would be curious to see if a 8xd rod performs better with a 6xd crank than an 8xd crank.

Lew's XD Series Crankbait Casting Rod?
I got a good deal and ordered the 6xd. I’ll post a review once I get a chance to use it.

Lew's XD Series Crankbait Casting Rod?
Not seeing any reviews yet for this new rod. Thinking of getting the 6xd. Wondering how it well it would cast rapala dt 10s which is on the low range for this rod as well as the 6xd which is what it is rated for. Curious as to how heavy the rod is too. Anyone have one or have handled one? Not seen it in any stores around me yet.

“Favorite” brand rods
This. Casting distance increases substantially and you can cast into the wind easily without a birds nest. I also use mine for jerkbaits.

I’m not real happy with tackle warehouse too. I ordered around $1000 from them last year. No heads up Email. Outside of special sales, TW prices are usually not lower than other places. I was already buying things elsewhere locally and online because TW did not have what I wanted and shipping was ridiculously slow. I did manage to order $100 of things I wanted but also ordered some rage baits from sieberts because tw did not have the colors I wanted. Sieberts order will arrive today and I ordered that Sunday night. Shipping from Missouri to TN.

Dedicated jig rod
I have a Diawa rebellion 7’3”” h rod that I have used for the last 6 months. I really like it. Light and very sensitive. The rod rating and specs are spot on I think. I’ve used it for 3/4 ounce football jigs and 1/2 ounce arky head. I have a tatutula elite with same rating and size which is okay. However, the rebellion is a step up on that.
