Bass Fishing Humor
Paul, that post was not at all funny. What you did was downright mean. So what if the old man was drunk? There was no cause for you to have treated him the way you did.

Bass Fishing Humor
That quote was along the lines of "the faster I try to go, the righter I turn." The event was the second annual Bass Resource Road Trip at Lake Fork, TX. The words were spoken by a former member from New Jersey who had never run a bass boat before, much less a trolling motor. The antics that guy pulled were priceless. There was also another newbie to bass boats who didn't know that the big motor had a reverse on it. The first time he drove it into the slip he almost ended up with the bow on the walkway. It was very scary to watch at the time, but no permanent harm was done, and we laughed until we hurt afterwards. I have very memorable moments from that trip.

How Do I Know What's The Best Gear Ratio For What Baits?
The ratio of the reel is almost immaterial under normal fishing conditions. It all boils down to how fast you crank it. In instances when I am fishing in areas where the bass could wrap itself up in branches, stumps, etc., I'll try to use a 7+ ratio, just to ****** them out ASAP.

Leader Line Does It Matter?
There are pros and cons to both. Mono has more stretch than fluoro, so it may aid in keeping a hard hook-set from jerking the lure out of the fish's mouth. On the other hand, fluoro has less stretch, which increases sensitivity a bit, but it is more invisible to the fish. In all honesty, with a 6' leader, I'm not sure, (with the exception of fluoro's invisibility) that it makes any difference at all. That said, I confess that I have never used mono as a leader. Most of my rods are spooled with braid, and fluoro leader. Works for me.

Let's Talk Water Pumps
I firmly agree with most of the other responders. By all means, change the impeller. I'm 68, and I change the impeller on my 150 Merc every couple of years, although I have to confess that the weight of the lower unit is beginning to tax me a bit.

2015 Unofficial Road Trip (Also Known As The Baked Potato Classic)
Jerry, to be honest, I don't know when I am going to heal up. My tests showed no infections or blood clots, so the doctor did nothing. After more than a week, the swelling has worsened, so I contacted him again, asking him to please crap or get off the pot. Lo and behold, I have now been referred to a cardiologist, but I can't see her til April 2nd. One more week to wait while the leg swells. By the time I get a firm diagnosis, they'll probably want to cut my leg off.

2015 Unofficial Road Trip (Also Known As The Baked Potato Classic)
Gentlemen and Lady, now that you have all returned home, the lurkers on this thread, including me, would very much appreciate a narrative (with pictures, if possible) of your trip. e.g. How many fish did you catch each day. What size were they? How was the weather. Tell us about your fellow attendees, about the resort, about the restaurant/bar, about the lake, about the things you did off the water. In short, we want to hear everything!

2015 Unofficial Road Trip (Also Known As The Baked Potato Classic)
It makes me sick to have to tell everyone that I will be unable to make the trip. Last week I tripped and took a hard fall to my hands and left knee. Three days ago my left leg below the knee began to swell to three times its normal size and turned bright red. I finally got to see my doctor today, who informed me that I most probably have a blood-clot that resulted from the fall. He has scheduled me for an ultrasound test tomorrow morning to locate the blood-clot. When I told him about the fishing trip he said that under no circumstances was I to sit behind the wheel of a car for more than an hour, let alone seven. I am to keep the leg elevated with a heating pad on it. He feels that at this time no surgery is indicated, and that the clot can be dissolved with medication. It will depend upon the results of the ultrasound. I have been eagerly looking forward to this trip for a year, only to have it jerked out from under me at the last minute. If I was a kid I would cry.

How Do You Fish Windy Days?
I use the Spot Lock function on my Minn Kota Terrova. The motor uses GPS to automatically keep me in the same place, regardless of the wind or current.
