To begin with, welcome to Bass Resource! There are a lot of nice, and knowledgeable folks who hang around this place. There is a great spot called Trophy Country that is located near Moberly. It's a privately owned "resort" that has over a hundred small lakes that resulted from the old strip mining days. You can pretty much be guaranteed to catch at least 50 bass a day, but very few of them go over 3 pounds. The downside is that it costs a hundred bucks a day to fish there, plus your share of a $50 a day cabin rental. On the upside, the "resort" supplies the boats and trolling motors. If you are willing to travel, and have access to a boat, my next recommendation would be Lake Pickwick, which is located on the Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi borders. It offers both great Smallie and Largemouth fishing. It's my favorite lake.

My boat will do about 60, but I normally run at about 45. I wish I had a rear view mirror to keep an eye on those barreling up behind me when I am about to make a turn, but finding a location to mount it would be problematic.

Not a bad fish ... for a man of your limited talents.

If I'm flippin into slop or brush piles I use Tuff-Line 50# braid, and a high ratio reel. I want to get them out of their hidey-holes as fast as I can. Most of my reels are spooled with 30# braid and a flouro leader of differing sizes, but no leader when there's a good possibility that I may get wrapped up.

At this time there is no reason to lock this thread. Because I dislike polls I will not participate in this one, other than to say, off the record so-to-speak, than I never drink while on the water.

To add to BassnChris's comment, our favorite lake is 27' above normal. Not only is the ramp under water, the entire parking lot is under water. It's been really bad around here.

What einscodek said. The Zmans are the most durable plastic I have ever fished, and have a lot of action to them, but keep them away from other plastics.

I live within a few miles of Chris here in Tulsa. We are rapidly approaching the wettest month on record, if we haven't exceeded it today. I have an on-site weather station. Within the last three hours we have received 3.7 inches of rain, with the heaviest rate at 9.6 inches per hour. After five years of drought, the ground is now saturated from earlier rains. This evening there is street flooding all over the city.

Not many engineers in that group. And there's a vast difference between home schooled and self taught, as was common in the eras mentioned. As an aside, Albert Einstein received formal education until he was 21. I didn't check on the other "engineers."

I wonder how many Engineers have been home schooled.

I've been using a gas stabilizer (Startron) for 10 years and have never drained my tank, although the boat has gone months without use.

Aluminum, when compared to a glass boat and engine of the same size: Generally, less expensive to buy. Generally, less expensive to operate and tow because they are lighter. Generally, hull repairs are less expensive. With the proper choice of hull, will be just as fast, or faster, than a glass boat. Glass, when compared to an aluminum boat and engine of the same size: Much more eye candy. i.e. variety of colors and glitter. A properly chosen hull will allow any boat, regardless of type of construction, to handle big water, and be very stable to fish from. A properly chosen interior layout, regardless of type of construction, will allow ample storage of rods and other gear. This is speculation on my part, but I would surmise that glass boats can be faster because they can handle larger engines. There may be aluminum hulls out there that will handle a 250 hp, but I don't know of any of the bass boat variety. Edit: I was typing this before I saw Catt's post. What he said.

Forty-seven years ago I was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, named Jodie. My son Jason is eighteen months older than her, but Jodie is the focus of this post. About six months after Jodie's birth my wife and I separated. I started a new life, and after a time had a new wife. She blessed me with two more beautiful girls. Time passed, but eleven years of that time was spent living overseas, so the time spent with the kids by my first marriage was sporadic, at best, but I tried as best as a career-driven man could - which translates into "I could have been a better father to all of my kids." So much for crying in my beer. Now for the good stuff. The daughter by my first marriage (Jodie) and the eldest daughter by my second marriage (Dawn) became very close friends. Dawn married and provided me with two granddaughters, as did Jodie. Well, the granddaughters have grown up, and Dawn's daughter was wedded last week-end. It just so happens the Jodie is an ordained Minister, so Dawn asked her if she would perform the ceremony. And she did. My daughter married my granddaughter - to a very nice guy.

Today my 25-year-old granddaughter, who is drop-dead gorgeous, and weighs all of 110 lbs, passed the Florida State Firefighters test. The physical part of the test consisted of her having to unload a 25' extension ladder from the truck, extend it to the second floor, and then climb into a smoke-filled room with her fire suit and 50 lbs of gear. She then had to descend down a smoke-filled staircase, locate a 180 lb mannikin and drag him 50 yards to safety, all within a specified time frame, and she did it! I'm so proud of her I could Pop!
