  1. In Oklahoma, there is a law that states that any city or township that generates "x" percent of its revenue from speeders is designated as a "speed trap," so the city/township is prohibited from enforcing the speed limit. Now, get this. Since the town is no longer allowed to enforce the law, it has to call in the state Highway Patrol. The town loses a substantial part of its revenue and it goes to the state instead. Democracy at its finest!
  2. What about Long Mike then? I heard he predates dirt... I invented dirt. Been fishing since I was old enough to hold a cane pole. College and a career got in the way for more years than I want to count, but I fished whenever I could get away. Now that I am semi-retired I've taken up bass fishing in earnest. Been doing it for about four years now. I'm 64, so I suppose that I've been fishing, on and off, for about 60 years.
  3. SJB1226, thank you for adding an emphasis to, and a confirmation of, my statement. :
  4. If you are going to be flippin into the lily pads or the grass, I suggest that you have at least one heavy action rod with no less than fifty pound braid.
  5. Unless I'm shooting for distance, every cast is one-handed. Just like Goose52, I'm becoming somewhat arthritic, so I often have to duct-tape my hand to the rod.
  6. I have spent years putting together the rod/reel combo that perfectly matches the color of my eyes. I can't remember the brand names of the rod and reel, but they are both a beautiful hazel color.
  7. There's no reason to spend that kind of money on a quality spinning reel. The Pflueger President XT is one of the finest reels you can buy; even at twice the price of $90. Check it out.
  8. TJHfishin, there is an old adage that says "A person has only one chance to make a good First Impression." I will leave it to you to judge for yourself what impression you have made upon your audience. As I've stated before, there are only two reasons for people to use poor grammar and punctuation - ignorance and laziness. Ignorance is forgiven by your audience. Laziness is not. Nitrofreak, those who know me know that I am not really an ogre. It's my failing that I have a very low tolerance for those who butcher the English language. I suppose it comes with being an Old Fart.
  9. I'm not disputing the fact that the Gulf coast will suffer major damage, but the big difference between the Alaska tragedy and the Gulf is the temperature. The muchhigher temps in the Gulf will aid tremendously in the evaporation of the oil.
  10. The big worry for BP and all others is that the well could be blowing out through possible fissures in the surrounding earth. This is a rarity with oil well blow-outs, but BP is being extremely cautious in not allowing the cap on the well to cause any over-pressure on those potential fissures. That's a good thing.
  11. She's famous for her soups.
  12. LBH was a former moderator on this site. He has since moved on to other things.
  13. I didn't know there was salt in the ocean back then. There wasn't, until I started peeing in it. I drank a lot of margaritas back then.
  14. Both Academy and BPS carry it. Walmart carries it, occasionally.
  15. Congratulations! You have a beautiful family!
  16. If I had a choice between watching soccer or watching my grass grow, I would choose the grass. It's much more exciting.
  17. I have used three avatars. My first was a pic of me holding my PB at the time. One member sent me a PM ridiculing me for exhibiting such a small bass. My next avatar was a photo of a jar of pickled eggs. I loved that one. People kept sending me PMs asking if it was a photo of a jar of pickled eggs. My current avatar is a photo taken by Burley during the 2009 BR trip. I keep using it simply because I know that the "MOOK" logo irritates the certain individuals who shall remain unnamed. ;D
  18. Bassinatorbigjoe, typing in ALL CAPS is considered poor etiquette when posting on any board. You are considered to be yelling. Just thought you would like to know. BTW, I grew up in South Louisiana (Abbeville) Most of my fishing in my younger years was done in salt water, although I have fished the Basin a number of times.
  19. If your engine is sputtering and smoking when you use Startron, that means that the product is doing its job. i.e. cleaning the gunk out of your carburetors. If you would use it with every fill-up your engine will purr. In addition, I have used Startron for years and have never taken special efforts when storing the boat for the winter. That stuff works!
  20. Most of the pros I've spoken with recommend Samurai.
  21. Attaboy BL! Just out of curiosity, how does an ugly Mutt like you land such an attractive lady?
  22. As RW knows, I use braid on all my rods, both spinning and bait casting. Unless I'm fishing in slop, I use a six-foot flouro leader at all times. If I have to break off I use a piece of PVC pipe to wrap my line around.
  23. Just so you don't think you're being ignored, I have no experience with them and therefore, no comment.
  24. I would suggest a jig weighing at least one ounce. Anything weighing less will probably not punch through.
