Zebco Omniflex Mono?
yea, I took some off the spool to test it and it actually surprised me. Stronger than some other 12lb I have. I still don't trust it so it will stay as backing line for now.

Zebco Omniflex Mono?
Anyone ever use this stuff? I was at Walmart today and they had some 700yd spools of 12# line. I picked up 2 spools for like 3 bucks. I figured I would use it as backing on my reels from now on, and that unless it literally disintegrated in my hands it would be a good buy for that purpose. Anyone actually use it as mainline though? Just curious.

The Wait is Killing Me....
This is the part I don't get, even if you are 100% trying to target other species, odds are you will still hook into some bass. Do people just not fish at all when the season hasn't started in an attempt not to accidentally hook one?

Braid Size for Plueger President Limited Edition Spinning Reel?
8lb isn't the highest it's made for, it's just line capacity if you choose to use that line. Honestly not many people use less than 10lb on a spinning rods so I am not really sure why they even bothered. A 10 and 15lb capacity marking would have been far more useful. 10 is like the mono equivalent of 2lb. So you really don't gain much by going any smaller. No one needs 300 yards of braided line on their reel for any freshwater bass application. I just got a 30 size Pflueger Supreme and will probably put 15lb braid on it.

Finesse Spinning Rod
I was actually considering either the HMG or the HMX. Thanks for the replies guys. I went to bass pro today to just get a feel for ML vs M for different rods and I think I am going to go with ML. I can also second what several have said about the mojo ML acting like some other brands' M.

Finesse Fishing
Finesse is all relative, but I think your more traditional "finesse rigs" like drop shots and ned rigs are going to be more productive in water with at least decent visibility.

FG knot comment
Fair enough, and by no means am I recommending anyone go that long without retying one. But I have done it before. IMO it is less susceptible to wear and tear than other leaders knots do to the natures of it (thinner so it bounces off guides less, fluoro isn't kinked or bent at all, which is the case in other knots). I'm also not fishing nearly as much as some of the guys on here. Going a month without retying might mean 5-6 fishing trips of actual use with it. I just keep an eye on it and if it looks worn then it gets retied, but that hasn't happened to me yet since the leader usually gets too short before the actual knot becomes an issue for me. I also fish purely for fun. Tournament fishing I would definitely retie it often.

Dumb You Tube Fishing Stuff
First off, the unboxings are pretty dumb. The one exception is showing what came in an MTB or LTB, which might get people to sign up for it if they find that it is worthwhile. However, to some of the people watching these channels, this information is "New". Not to the fishing world, but to them. And YouTube is vastly more accessible than these cable shows, not to mention....free. A lot of the younger people I know now do not even have cable. And you really think the majority of the newer generations are going to be orderings dozens of different magazine subscriptions? Yea, no. Also, not sure what the jab at TJ81 was about. So the dude keeps his boat clean and that means he is a worse fisherman than you? And sticking to the pros? Sure, they rely on their knowledge to make a living, but I think we all know how often pros tell you stuff just to push a product and sell things. I'm not offended, just pointing out some stuff. Because at the end of the day.....

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
A bullhead on a slammer? Interesting. I've been catching some pickerel around that size recently too. Big fat ones that all had bluegill in their stomachs. I actually got 2 on a savage gear line through blue gill. A little disappointing to set the hook on a swimbait and hook a pickerel but hey, it's still a fish.

FG knot comment
I've gone months without retying an FG knot, well worth the little extra time to tie IMO. I've never had one break either, which I can't say about the Uni to Uni, although I do use that one also.

Is A Spare Spool Useful?
Isn't the reel OP is talking about a baitcaster? Anyways, I'm probably wrong, but in case I am not. For BAITCASTERS I think it can be useful to have a spare spool with different line. On my jig rod one spool has 40lb Power pro and the other has 20lb Sniper FC. That was if I am fishing heavy vegetation I can swap to the braid. Baitcasting spools are extremely easy to switch out so it really doesn't take more than a minute or two at the most. No reason you can't swap out while on the boat. Is it easier to have two set ups? Sure. But I'll take the extra 90 seconds it takes to swap then spend another 200 bucks for another set up. Spinning spools I would say are a little riskier to swap out in the boat IMO (have had pieces fall out and almost lost) but if you want to I don't see why not.

- Hollow Body Frog line- Mono or Braid?
I would strongly recommend against mono unless you plan on fishing them in open water. Guys generally use between 30# and 80# braid for frogs depending on the thickness of the cover. I personally use 50# and have no issues. You say you are fishing around a lot of grass so the braid will be much better at cutting through the vegetation if a big one drags you into a mat. I've never heard of anyone using a leader either, but maybe for the guys who have to deal with pike it wouldn't be a terrible idea.- Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
So my local lake was lowered dramatically the past two winters and sprayed, all in an effort to kill some of the weeds as they have taken over parts of the lakes in recent years. Well it worked, but unfortunately it may have ruined one of my go-to shore fishing spots. The thing that made it a great spot was you had rocks and sand that dropped off into a nice weed line, and you could almost always count on getting a couple along that weed line. Now, I haven't caught a fish there all year, not even a pickeral. There are other spots like this on the lake but I can only get to them if I take my kayak out, but they have produced this year so far. @DogBone_384 Sounds like a real hellish day, but at least you got a fish! I took my friend out for a few hours to fish a couple days ago and decided to let him try my bait casting set up for a few casts (I usually just give him my spinning set up for the day), that like you said yours is, is basically set and forget. First 3 casts went well for him, but on the 4th cast he shot the lure right into a tree....and since it stopped so quick and the spool did not, he managed one of the worst backlashes I have ever seen. He didn't know any better though, not knowing about thumbing the spool and all. RIP a spool of Sniper FC. Luckily I was going to have to respool it soon anyways since I had a phantom breakoff earlier in the year that took about 1/3 of my spool's line. I didn't even think about the possibility of him casting into the tree so that one is on me.- 2016 ICAST Leaks/Wish List
- Finesse Spinning Rod
Thanks for the replies so far guys. I am probably going to go with a Carbonlite or Mojo Bass rod. But I am still split on whether to get a ML or a M.- The latest sale thread
Sports Authority is closing a bunch of stores and many have sales. Only like 10% off fishing gear at the one near me but hey, it's something. Their fishing selection is downright terrible but they do have some stuff like power pro line and gamakatsu hooks.- The Wait is Killing Me....
I am curious what exactly the rules are. Could you not just claim you are fishing for another species? Bass lures can work well for pike and walleye too. If you are catch and release only I don't see how there can really be any kind of enforceable season? Now obviously if you are keeping fish that is a different story.- FIRST ROD AND REEL
Also, I'll just say lews customer service is excellent. I took mine apart to clean this winter and ended up breaking a small plastic part on the sideplate assembly that controlled the braking system. It was completely my fault but I called them up and they ended up sending me the part, and the rest of the assembly (which I did not ask for them to do) free of charge, and sent it priority mail. I had the new part in the reel in just a couple days and now I have spare parts if anything else on that side breaks.- The Little Tabs In PowerPro Boxes?
For spools that don't have great line capacity I do electrical tape and then spool up with straight braid (if I might be getting near the end of the spool on a long cast, I don't want to get to a connection knot for backing). If it has good line capacity or I am using thinner braid (<40) I will use mono backing.- Finesse Spinning Rod
I am considering the carbonlite, do you think the M or ML would be better for what I am doing? - Hollow Body Frog line- Mono or Braid?
