Featured Replies

Hey guys, since I am still new to bass fishing, I would like to know what type of set up you guys are using for finesse bass fishing.

Include:

  • Name of Rod
  • Name of Reel
  • What type of line you use including the pound test
  • Pictures

Thanks!

When I need to toss the really light baits (1/16 to 1/4 oz) I use a Saros 1000 with a Custom Phenix K2.

Switch over to braid to fluoro leader it's amazing. I recommend either the 12 or 16 pound Sunline SX1 to which fluoro you want.

I think I'll have to. It's getting super hot already and hate not being able to leave it in the car without the line going down the tubes.

I have an NRX and found SX1 to be EXTREMELY noisy with the recoil guides.  I settled on Smackdown and have never looked back.  It's thinner and quieter by a long shot.  Just my .02 though :)

DX701SF/Ci4 2500/6lb. fluoro

DX702SF/Ci4 2500/8lb. fluoro

I also will use 14lb. YGK braid to fluoro leader once the weeds get thicker.

I have several "finesse" combos, but my favorite would be;

6' 10" ML/XF St. Croix LTB

30 size Pfluegar Supreme XT

24lb Gliss to a 6-10 pound leader

My last finesse setup, building a new one...

Megabass Super Criffhanger X7 6'3L

Megabass Zonda 68L

Floroclear 8lb

I'll play!

6'8" mxf avid

saros 2500

10lb pp with a long leader of 6-10lb fluoro (trilene 100% or sniper)

For me that's a 2 combo equation.

First up is my 7'1" MLXF spinning from THE COMPANY WHICH SHANT BE NAMED.  The reel is a Stella FW2500S and I use 8# Gliss on it.  I mostly use this for finesse jigging stuff, small tubes and small jerkbaits.  Ned rigging, drop shotting, trick darters, biffle-o's, that sort of thing.  Extremely versatile though, I am never without this combo!  It can just put a bait anywhere water can be.

The other is an NRX 852c with a Daiwa/Megabass Ito Ai and 15# Smackdown.  I use the extra backbone in this combo for hammering home t-rig hooks on weightless worms and craws around the edges of heavy cover mostly.  It is ultra lightweight and very accurate to cast weightless baits long distances but has the muscle I want for contact baits and single hooks too.  Kind of like a "best of both worlds" setup.

4AC14FB3-01E0-4353-B1A9-41110DEC1714_zps

The NRX I consider a finesse combo only because of what it's primary function is and how I've got it set up.  I am primarily a finesse fisherman though, so these two are my most-used combos.

No pic at the moment but my finesse rig is my spinning setup:

7'1" M/F rod from company not to be mentioned

Lews Tournament Pro Speed Spin 300h I think reel

15 pound test hi vis yellow power pro braid

Either 8 or 12 lb test seaguar red label leader

This setup covers my weightless t-rigs, wacky rigged plastics, drop shot, ned rig, mojo rig, and some very light minnow sized cranks from rapala that I can't seem to throw on a baitcaster without back lashing to the moon.
