  1. I run 2 and have no problems big boat runs a Matrix 87c and 787c the 87c up front on the TM and the 787c on the transom. They share one GPS receiver. on small 14 footer I run tx300 and a matrix 47 no problems there either.
  2. I am turning a 17pitch aluninum at max rpm (WOT at 5200rpm for the 75 Suzuki) that is why I went to a 19pitch for the stainless. Its a 17 1/2 foot Sea Nymph GLS 175 I am also adding a 6 inch jack plate the 17pitch at max was before the jackplate
  3. Norm!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  4. Thanks for the info Guys. Its going on a 17 1/2 foot Deep V with a 75 Suzuki. Never had a stainless on it so it will be better than my old props. getting the motor rebuilt so I thought it would be a good time to re-prop it, and move to a stainless I bought it today.( 3 blade, 19pitch) I couldn't pass up the deal. It was only $140. Like I said I have paid that much for an aluminum prop
  5. Kazy glue will work. I use that too. try the brush on it is less messy. I bought the fishing glue at Dick's
  6. GPS or no GPS???? Well, I got my GPS twp years ago and can't live without it now. If your going to be fishing lakes that you don't know very well maybe new waters. A GPS with mapping is a great advantge. Also if you do any fishing way off the bank. They are great for marking humps, trees, just about anything. so you can find the same spot every time to fish there. I fish this lake in Canada and in the main body of the lake the depth is about 50 feet. There is a small hump up to 19 feet about a 1/2mile from any shore line. the hump is only about 10 feet wide and about 100 feet long. before I had GPS it would take forever to find it and once I did. I would lose it fast. Got GPS maked it and can come right to it every time now. I fish Erie alot. there are no land marks out there. Find a hump, rock pile, wreck, ect mark it and can come back to it anytime. I would get GPS. If you don't, you will want it soon, then you'll be smacking yourself. get the 332c it is well worth it and the color make it even better
  7. I use braid on my Flippin sticks and on one spinning reel. I always use a leader when I use braid, no matter how clear or muddy the water is. I just always use a leader with braid. Yes you can tie mono to braid. try fluorocarbon or fluorocarben coated line. Like P-line floroclear. I use that on my spinning reel. I fish that rod/reel set up for smallies on lake Erie. can't get any clearer than that. I use 10lb spider wire stealth with 8lb P-line floroclear as a leader. On my flippin stick I use 50lb spiderwire with 25lb Yo-zuri hybrid I have use mono, but like those two lines as leaders better. use a Double Uni Knot to tie line to line. also i put a little drop of fishing glue on the knot. check out www.Netknots.com they have all the knots you need.
  8. If you want a slow falling jig. Try a Bass Stalker 1/8oz with a Zoom Big salty chunk Now that's a slow fall. Great late winter/ early spring bait
  9. Hi , has anyone used a Michigan Wheel, Rapture Stainless Steel Prop I found a deal on one that almost seems to good to be true( I have paid the same for Alunium props for what the want this one for). Its new. I just want to know if they are a good prop before I spend the $$
  10. Casting: Shimano Chronarch 100 MG Spinning: Quantum
  11. I use the P-line floroclear on most of my reel and have not had many problems with it. I do like to use "reel magic" on it. (like I do with Yo-zuri Hybrid) It really helps the line preform better.
  12. I ran NAPA's spiral Batteries( I think Optima made them, won them at a tournament) they were small but heavy. I know you looking for lite weight so spiral cell might not be what your looking for. This might soud crazy and I know I am going to get jumped all over. But try Auto Zone's Groupe 24 Deep cycle. They are not sealed. are not bad batteries and they are lite. and only cost around $55
  13. If the streeing is getting stiff. Its already to late for lubrication. Solve the problem fast and easy. Get new cables.
  14. Look out!!!!!! Cliff Claven Alert!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Just kidding, There is a little Cliff in all of us
  15. "a $20 rod and a $300 reel kinda makes me laugh' Hey Bitman, Lots of guys laugh when they see that set up. I hear " is that an Ugly Stick?" " your not really going to use that. Are you?" " You Have what reel on that rod?" then after a fish or two smashes the torpedo, and they are in the live well, the laughter seems to stop stops. the Chronarch Mg , I love those reels. I have a few of them and they are the best reel ever. Well at least in my mind. That Ugly Stick is about 20 years old. Its a good rod, but wow is it heavy. You get into a good top water bite and your throwing it all day. Your arms feel like their about to fall off. After throwing that set up , then I pick a light weight rod. You don't even feel it.
  16. I love Senkos You can go crazy on all the color choices they have. I think you can make one cast with each color and it would take you a whole fishing day to get through all the colors. At any give day and given color can work. I have bags of different color Senkos, but I have limited down to two different colors I use 99% of the time 75% of the time its plain "Watermelon" This seem to work almost everywhere 24% of the time its "clear" 1% other colors. In the fall I use the "clear" more often and do dip the tail in Chartreuse dye
  17. I fish top water a lot. Baby torpedo(the bigger one) are my lure of choice I use 15lb or 20lb Trilene XL . Now with a Buzz bait I used braid, P-Line Floroclear and Yo-Zuri hybrid and had good results, but on the torpedo, with treble hooks, like the sammy, the no strech line seemed to pull the hooks free when the fish jumped. I like a little strech when they run the hooks don't pull free. Infact my top water set up is different than most. I have a rod set up as just a "torpedo rod" it even has it written on it with a sharpe. Its a 7 6 fiberglass Ugly stick med action. The only ugly stick I use. I use a fiberglass rod for the same reason guys use one for crank baits. When a fish runs the rod gives and the hook don't pull out. I use a Shimano Chronarch MG ( big $$ reel, low $$ rod) and usially 20lb Trilene XL. With the give of the rod and the strech of the line I rearly have a fish throw a lure. I have tried stiffer rods and no strech lines and have lost to many fish. I stick with what works best for me.
  18. I understand the 7.1 to 1 gear in these "burner reels." It gets the lure back faster. I am just wondering if you guys feel that by using such a high gear you are losing the mechanical advantage that a lower geared reel has? I haven't tried one of these 7.1 to 1 reels yet,( I think I am going to get on for buzz bait fishing) but I know that the reels I have with 6.3 to 1 you need to reel harder when bringing in a bigger fish. Most of my reels have gears in the 5's a few in the 6's, and I have 2 shimanos that are 3.8 to 1. I use one for slow rolling a spinner bait, or slow cranking. But the other one I use for flippin and pitchin into heavy weeds. I don't use it when flippin wood just when fishing in heavy weeds, like heavy mats of weeds and pad fields. I know that even when I catch a small fish, say 1 or 2 pounder, I may have many pounds of weeds stuck on the fish. You know what I am talking about? You just see a big mess of weeds on you line and can't see the fish under all of it. I feel reeling in all that weight is easier with the 3.8 to 1 reel. Just wondering what you guys thought?
  19. If you want it get it. Just like hakksaw said "life is to short my friend" The tracker is a great boat you will be happy with it. Don't worry about the 25HP it will push it fine. Up here in Pa we have some HP limited lakes. Most were 10 HP and many guys ran the 170 with 9.9hp and they ran ok. Now the lakes are 20Hp limits. The 170 and the 175 are the most popular boat around here now, on those limited lake. They all run 25HP with 20HP stickers. my father-inlaw bought a 2005 Pro team 175 with a 25HP merc 2 stroke. with two guys ( around 250lbs each) and all our gear the boat runs in the mid 20s on gps. That is not bad. If that is what you can afford and you plan on keeping it a long time. get it. You'll love it.
  20. I have seen that commercial, and saw the video of the Triton Torture test. They literaly beat the crap out of the boat. I saw a Lund rough water test video a few years ago. it was taken on either lake Erie or Lake Michigan. What those boats and drivers were put through could be describe as "Pure H*ll" I fish Lake erie alot in the eastern part of the lake, Pa. NY. and it can beat you up on a good day. I have personally seen two TM's come off boats. One was mine. I have a Sea Nymph Great Lake Special and was running in big water. Hit one wave and the Minkota Power drive went from stow to run Position, hit the next and it went from run to gone position. Now when i go to Erie the Motor Guide has two hold down straps on it.
  21. I wish they would show it. I want to see his body swinging in the wind
  22. I have also heard this about treated wood I was told that marine grade treated wood, which is very $$$ will not react with Aluminum, but pressure treated or "wolmanized" ( don't know how to spell that) wood will react. The wood I use is regular untreated wood. i then coat it with "Tompson Water seal" It will not react to the metal and it wooks great on the wood.
  23. MarVaBc Ho do I attach the Alunium fram to the boat? I use stainless bolts or screws some I don't attach to the boat. They just sit in their place.
  24. I have had memrory problems with heavier Yo-zuri Hybrid. . try useing "REEL MAGIC' on the line. spray it on every 10 or so cast. It make the line alot more workable ( dose that with any line I have tried it with). I use the 12 lb hybrid a lot and use the reel magic with it and it make the line so much better to use. On other thing I have notice about Hybrid. Is keep it out of direct sunlight when not using it. I have noticed that if a reel sit out on the deck all day with hybrid on it and the sun is hitting the line, the line seems to have more memory problems. I always keep my reels upside down. so the sun doesn't hit the spool.
  25. I have put many decks in my boats. Improving on them each time. Fist off make it strong enough, but don't make it so heavy it weighs your boat down. I use wood for floors and sides,( 1/2 inch plywood for floors and the thinnest stuf I can find for the sides) but I use aluminum angle (that I buy at Home Depot, Its only a 1/4 mile from my house. I am in real trouble) I use the angles for the frames, they are stong, very lite, and are easy to work with One thing I will tell you about, that is overlooked by many, is carpet. you can buy cheap stuff or spend lots of $$ on it. Just do one thing when you look at carpet, take a lure with you, a heavy one with trebels hooks( Rat-L-Trap works good). Pick your carpet and drop the lure on it. If it sticks and is very hard to get off the carpet. don't get it. just think if you carpet your boat and everytime up drop a lure it gets stuck in the carpet and you have to rip it out. It will drive you crazy, The carpet will not last long., and you will bend a lot of hooks. I made this mistake the first time I made a deck in a boat.
