Fluoro LINE vs LEADER??
Not sure the difference. I see the same thing with P-Line. I have use Berkley Vanish in the past and do not like it. Thats just me I used leaders alot. On rods that I have braid spooled up I always use a leader. I never tie braid directly to the lure. The 2 lines I have been using with no problems would be P-Line Floroclear and in heaver condition where there is a lot of abrasions I use Yo-zuri Hybrid. Both of these line are not 100% fluorocarbon line. They are a "fluorocarbon Polymer" other words its fluorocarbon coated Both lines are great infact I use P-line floroclear on most of my reels as main line.

Mercury vs Tohatsu
If your lakes you fish are not Hp limited to 10HP and you can run a 25Hp I would get the bigger motor. A 9.9 Will push it good, but if you can use a 25 and its in your price range get it. As for the difference and who is better. Up here is Pa. Merc is king, but there are a lot of Tohatsu's running around. Most of the State Park Lakes were 10HP limited lake. Alot of guys would run 18HP 2 stroke Tohatsu's with 9.9 stickers. They are fast on a small 14 foot boat. Well the state changed to 20Hp limit and everybody is now runs 25HP Mercs with 20 stickers i would look into how easy it would be to get the motors serviced. Mercs can be worked on almost anywhere. How many places can work on a Tohatsu by you? That is something to think about. i know from experience. One of my boats has a Suzuki outboard and for years there wasn't anybody close to me that would even look at one. Nearest place was a 3 hour drive. That went on for 10 years haveing to drive 3 hrs. to get the motor worked on. I am lucky I have a shop( A Merc shop) right next to my camp that will work on it now. I still have to get them Parts(From Jersey) I live by Pittsburgh) The only reason they will work on it is they are friends of mine, or it would be a 3 hr drive again. So look into how easy it is to get fixed. I would go with the Merc. Don't get me wrong the Tohatsu is a great motor. I just know nomatter where I go in this great county to fish if my merc gets broken, there is a shop near by that can fix it.

prop pitch
It depends on how you run your boat. I think you might do better with a 19 or 21, a 17 seem small for a 135, but if your boat is heavy it might be the best for it. If your going to run at WOT when your running a bigger pitch might be better. But if you run at crusing speed, say 3500rpm the 17 might be fine. I know on my boat 17 1/2 footer, I run a 75Hp and run a 17 pitch prop. when i fish tournaments or are fishing I run the 17 pitch .It works the best for me. If I am going out family boating, maybe tubing/skiing or have 4 or 5 people in the boat. I will put my 15 pitch on it. Make pulling the extra wieght better. I have a 19 pitch, but the boat run slower with it than the 17 and has no hole shot. The best way to find out what prop will work best for you is talk to a shop about how you want to use your boat, and see if they will let you try out a few different props till you find the best on for you.

tubes
Yes me too. I like to fish them over Pads weightless I usilly put one of the soft foam ear plugs inside of the tube. You can smash it down real small slide it inside the tube and it will expand and make it float even better. I use that alot when fish matted weed beds or pad fields that have open holes in the field. drag the tub across the weeds and make it stop in the hole just floating there. wait and hold on.

first boat
Start off small. If its your first boat and your 11. start small you have all your life to get a big boat. and small boats are fun. First off you can't transport it anywhere by yourself yet. So if you save till you 15 or 16 you'll have a good chunk of change. One thing get on on a trailer. Car topping is ok, but witha trailer it will make it so much easier to use. even by yourself. Small boats are fun, easy to use, easy to transport, don't cost much $$, and up keep is easy. My fisrt boat was a 12 foot Starcraft Semi-V on a trailer with a 6Hp Johnson and a 28# mikota on the tansom. I bought it from a neighbor when I was 14 for $300. When I turned 16 and began to dive, I had a Chevy Chevette ( does anybody remember those little cars?) 2 door, 4 speed stick, 4 banger. It towed that little Starcraft eveywhere with not a problem. 3 of my friends and I would go on weekend fishing/camping trips. I would have the boat hooked up to the Chevette with all of our camping and fishing gear in it. My buddies 7 1/2 HP Sears motor sitting next to my motor on the transom and his 12foot Sears semi-V strapped to the roof. 4 guys , two boats all our gear, in a 2 door Chevette. It was freedom. That is what a boat should give you, freedom. Start small and let each new boat give you more freedom than the one before. Those trips were some of the best trips I ever went on. I wish I still had that boat, but like most of us we move up to bigger and better boats.

In Need of a Boat
That does not mean tracker is a bad boat. they are great boats. Just when you look at boats, they will aways have opional motor packages. Just get the most motor you can afford. Try to get a motor as close to the max HP rateing. Yes tracker does this, but so do many other companies. They put a boat deal together that sell the most boat for the money, but the motor is to small. When looking at used boats you see this alot. People buy a good priced boat package just to find out the boat doesn't preform the way they wanted it to, and for a llittle bit more $$ when the bought it they would have had a better boat experience if they would have bought a bigger motor. If the boat package deal is a great price and it comes with a 40hp, but the boats max hp is 90hp, see how much $$ it would be to upgrade to a 75hp or 90hp. It would be well worth it to upgrade.

Jack plate ...which one???
Thanks guys, any more info would be great. I think the one piece would be easier to adjust, just one nut instead of two. I am not worried about a warranty. The boat is 17 years old. and out of warranty Just as Pa angler said and has is a deep V. a Sea Nymph GLS 175 17 1/2 foot. The cables will reach. I had new ones put on 3 years ago and they are a little long so there is a nice sag in them as they run down the side of the boat. The boat and transom are in great shape. the transom is rock solid I wasn't sure if I was going to put one on. well I blew up my motor. a 75Hp suzuki. then I found a used 75 suzuki the same year as mine. Took my motor off and went to put the new one on. well the bolt pattern does not line up. I thought they are all standard? The motor I bought was one of a pair of twins. I guess the mounts are narrower on twins. The holes are off by 1/2 inch. I would much rather buy a JP and drill new holes in it, than drill 4 new holes in my transom

Jack plate ...which one???
I decided to get a Jack plate for my boat. I'm not running a big hp motor, only 75Hp, but a little extra performance is never bad. My question is. I have been looking at JP and have found 2 different styles. I am not sure what one is better. Both are adjustable 6 inch setback with 4 inch travel. Made by the same CO. One is a one piece and the other is a two piece. What is the big difference? i want to spend the least $$ like most people, but I want the best product. the one piece is about twice the price of the two piece. What one do you think would work the best for me. Remember I am only running 75HP

spray on linings on boat bottom?
I have heard and seen it done to many boats on the inside. Never on the outside of the hull. It dose add some weight. Did put the do it yourself roll on liner to a trailer. Made it very easy to walk on. no more slippy rails. Stopped the rust too.

Odd things in the live well
Had mice in the livewells and chewed a hole in the drain line. Almost sank the boat. took about a hour to figure out where the water was coming in. While draining the water for the 3rd time a mouse clogged to drain hole. Then i fugured out how the line got a hole it it.

Engine Problem - Gas Mileage
I run a 17'6" Sea Nymph with a 75HP Suzuki 2 stroke. Running 25 miles at WOT ( about 5200rpm) I'll use about 11 Gal I also run a 17 foot Alumacraft with a 125 Merc 2 stroke. That same 25miles at WOT will use about 14 gal. So what you are experiencing is the norm. When you run these outboard at that rpm they are gas hogs. there is nothing wrong with your motor

BASS rules for tournament boats
You club can change the rule for "club tournaments" allowing boats under 17 feet. But if you plan of fishing any other tournaments. State fedreation ect. then boats under 17 would not be alloud. i know here is Western Pa, lots of club allow boats smaller than 17 feet. There are many lake with 10 and 20Hp limits. Most of the boats that run these lakes are 14 to 16 feet. So clubs that fish "small boats tournament" will allow boats under 17 feet. My club is a BASS affiliated club. In my club I know we have 2 boats under 17. A 16 ft hydro sports with a 110hp and a 16 foot tracker with 50Hp on it. Both boats are aloud to fish our club tournament. I also have used my 15 footer in club tournaments when my big boat was in the shop. We are not about to turn guys way and tell tem they can't fish with their boats.

Fire Extinguishers for Boats...

palomar knot wasting too much line for me
I use a palomar knot amost always and it is not waisting line. I think you might be tieing it wrong. Get some old line, or cheep line. look it up on the intenet and practice if over and over till you get it the way you think is good. The leader info for braided line. good info. I always use a leader. I never tie the braid to the lure. I do however use a palomar knot to tie the leader to the lure

Yozuri Hybrid line
I had the same problem with memory with the yozuri. Try some "reel magic" it seemed to help. I had that problem with 20# and 25# line, but the 12# I have seems to be great, but use the reel magic often. I do however use the 25# Hybrid in clear as a leader on my flippin stick, when I use spider wire. I never tie spiderwire, or any braid, to the lure. I always use a leader and yozuri hybrid works great for a leader in heavy cover. Its almost clear and it can take lots of abuse I use 50# spiderwire with 25# yozuri Hybrid and almost no line breaks. get a snag and usially the knot breaks or most offten the hook breaks or staightens out.

ramp question for a newbie
I used to do it the way some said and back in till the boat floats and the climb in the bed of the truck onto the trailer and then in the boat. Then i got an SUV. can't do that anymore, and when your on a shallow ramp and the back tires are wet to get the boat off the trailer is why i use the rope. Also I never pull my boat up on the ramp. I'll pull it up on shore near the ramp so its not on the cement. or just pull it to the dock.

ramp question for a newbie
Its easy. this is what i do when i am launching any of my boats by myself. get a long rope 30ft or so tie one end to the bow eye back the boat all the way till the trailer tires are just touching the water get out of you truck and grab the end of the ropethat you tied to the bow keep the line tight holding the slak line in you hand get in you truck with door open holding the line in you hand. slowly back the boat in the water as the boat starts to float, let go of all the slack line don't forget to hold onto the end. once the boat starts to float do not keep the line tight, just let go of the slack and the boat will just float off. I see people keeping the line tight and the boat wil not get free of the trailer. the boat will slowly float away from the trailer. put you truck in park and get out, and just pull you boat to shoar. once you get it to shoar tie it up and park your truck and trailer. I do this all the time. once you get used to it it will take you only a few minutes to get you boat in.

Lowrance vs Hummingbird
If your by Balt. go to BPS and check them all out. That is what I did and I liked to humminird better. I have the Matrix 87c (which they don't make anymore) and the 787c (which is almost exactly the same as the matrix 87c.) Both are good units. But check them out, take a few hours and play with all of them, and see what one you like better.

Trolling Motor Question
I have run both Minkota and motorguide. like both and hate both The new Mg digital's are great motors. I have a Pro 109# 36 volt and its a great motor. Best TM I have used. I have an old MG that is not a digital and do not like it. If your going to stick with Mg I would get the digital motor. It is worth it. I would recomend going to a 24volt motor you will get more power, be faster and lots more running time. and if your only using a TM on you boat 2 batteries do not take up that much room. I'm sold on the Pro series digital MG, right now they are the only TM I will buy

What say you: How many of you use....
I am right handed and most of my BC are right handed. the only LH I have are on my F/P rigs. a few years ago I decided to try using LH reels when I was F/P and I just like it better. It did take some getting use to setting the hook with theright arm, but that's old news now. that switching from hand to hand all day while F/P gets old. also I was noticeing that I was missing fish when I would switch hands. Most of my bites would come on the first fall. I would flip the bait in there. hurry up and switch hands , and they would hit while I was switching

Rigging some Tubes?
tubes are great lures. the best allaround lure in my mind. youcan almost alway count on catching fish when using a tube jig. they are my #1 goto lure and work all year long 75% of the time I rig them T style. depending on what cover and size of the tube will determan the size weight. If I am around light cover and slow current I'll go with a 1/8 oz or 1/4oz. If its heavy cover or heaveier current then I will co up to 3/8 and 1/2 oz.If I am fishing heavy lilly pads (which I think tubes are the best lure for, they side between the pads so nicely) I'll use up to a 1oz weight. most of the time the wieght is not pegged, but in pads I always peg the weight. Also I use only tungsen weights 20% of the time I us e a jig head. In open water( like lake Erie), and around rocks I'll use a jig head and slip it up insde the tube. I use 1/8 and 1/4 oz jig heads. If its windy or deep water I might go up to a 3/8oz. with a jig head a tube will have a spiral fall that drive fish crazy in open water. I use jig heads when i am "dragging" a tube. the other 5% of the time I will rig the in a C-rig or even drop shot
