  1. Wow! All of them? Did you get one of them? Did you find it really good for keeping small trebles pinned? And did you have a Moderate action with which to compare it? Seriously ..........this is starting to get really interesting. jj
  2. At times like this, I'm at a loss. I really don't know what to say. One thing I can tell you is that his attitude and perseverance made a great impression on me. jj
  3. There were Fast action (or fast speed, as some people said) rods before 1975, when Fenwick brought out the first graphite rods. They were all fiberglass. They worked just fine. Remember - "action" is where the rod bends. As @Mick D told me, that doesn't necessarily say anything about how stiff or compliant the tip is. The TT review mentioned that the tip was compliant. But no, I have never seen a modern rod like that, much less used one on the water. The fact that rods are being made nowadays with fast actions and are advertised as cranking rods is VERY interesting. I'd like to see one, and get the opportunity to use one. I think it would be fun! Darn it! Get that Tackle Monkey away from me!!!!! ? ? jj
  4. No, I don't. The local kayak/canoe dealer has either gone out of business or is trying to ride out the pandemic. I would suggest either perusing offerings on the web ( not really the most reliable source if information) or search this forum, or else PM @MN Fisher directly to find out what he thinks about the ones he has. Good luck! jj
  5. 1/4-1/2 oz. spoons 1/4 oz. spinners CD11 Countdown in Silver Bomber 13A in Chartreuse Shiner Zoom Super Fluke in Baby Bass And then for my second hour of fishing .............. ?? jj edit: The river is open long before any of the impoundments.
  6. Welcome to BR, Allen! It sounds like you're relatively inexperienced. Could you tell us whether you are using a spinning rig or casting rig? And please tell us which size reel and which power rod. It would help a LOT. Off the top of my head, I would not recommend less than 12 lb. test line. Nylon line (monofilament) that heavy is kinda stiff for spinning gear, though. Most people who use spinning gear do it for finesse techniques, which are lower power, and many use braid. Braid is thinner, and more suited to spinning gear in the lower test weights. Nylon is great for casting reels. Come on back and talk to us! We'll confuse you as best we can! ?? jj
  7. Dang ..... that would be NICE of you! ? jj
  8. I like a moderate action for cranks. All the time. I haven't seen every rod on the market (in fact far from it) but of the ones I've seen, I've never seen a moderate/fast action that I would care to use for cranks. Not any brand and not any model. One of the reasons is simple: fish seem to spit the hook more often with a M/F than a Moderate action. Why in the heck go to all the work to get a bite and then run a greater risk of losing the fish on the way in? Sorry, but it doesn't make sense to me. As usual, YMMV. jj
  9. I will wager that two or more years down the line, you'll be glad you got the SLX. jj
  10. 1) Lew's Superduty 300. Maybe I just got a bad one, I don't know. 2) Pflueger Patriarch size 35 and 40, and Supreme XT size 35. Noisy, grindy ..... stuff. 3) Any and all spinning rods with uplocking reels seats. Don't ask why. jj
  11. Would you consider some sort of outriggers? jj
  12. If I wanted to go heavier power (not action - action is where the rod bends) for your uses, I would go a heavier power spinning setup. For the 5 uses you named, sensitivity and the ability of the fisherman to react quickly are important. You can react much faster with your strong side. I'm right-handed, so for me that's a spinning setup. Even when I was young, I couldn't react to lighter weight baits and bottom techniques as well with a casting setup as I could with a spinning setup. And that's going all the way back to the Mitchell 300. Which ever way you decide to go, I wish you good luck! jj
  13. I used 14 lb. Advance for a while. I thought it was excellent for some things, but sensitivity wasn't one of them. I use squarebills on riprap, and instead of burning them, I run them quite slow. I depend on that "tick ......tick" to tell me what the lure is doing. I wasn't getting that feedback with Advance that I wanted ..... or at least not to the degree that I wanted. I had been using Seaguar InvizX, and that gave me better results. Where are you using your squarebills, in other words in what kind of environment? How fast is your retrieve? If I run squarebills (KVD or any others) at higher speeds, then that's a whole different ball game. Of course, that's suicide on riprap. You either hang up or your lure comes back with no bill. If you run squarebills in more open waters, and especially at higher speeds, then 14 lb. line is fine, whether it's Advance or something else. If you're running an obstacle course the way I am, and you depend on feedback from the lure, then all I can tell you is that I prefer fluorocarbon. Different horses for different courses. BTW ..... running on riprap the way I do, I have better luck with the 2.5s than the 1.5s. YMMV. Good luck! jj
  14. Fooled you, didn't we? ??? jj
  15. In any - and I say ANY - sale of a used product, there is what is to my mind an inordinate amount of risk. As I pointed out, this is my opinion. YMMV jj
  16. I like the Eppinger Big Ed Flutterchuck. In addition to a vertical presentation when I'm in my friend's boat, I shorecast it out onto the edge of sand bars and pop it up, letting it settle on semislack line. How does it do? OK. Not bad, but not great. It weighs 7/8 oz. jj
  17. Thank you! At the urging of my son, and with misguided fingers, I updated all my drivers. Windows Update had already updated them to the latest version ..... all, I guess, except one. When I clicked "update driver" on that one, it took several seconds to update. I've had no problems since. And no, don't ask me which one it was or where it was. I'm old and crotchety and I didn't really understand what I was doing. But it worked. So again ....... Thank you! ? jj
  18. Doggone it! Now you're gonna get me headed down another rabbit hole! ??? jj
  19. I see there are two different types of "pre-rigging". One is get lures or baits ready to tie on so as to not lose assembly time, and the other is to tie lures onto lines to minimize time delay on the water. It's the difference between preparation and anticipation. I do the first a lot, but the second very little. jj
  20. https://japantackle.com/spinning-reels/daiwa/reg0000265.html The differences are all there, you'll just need to take some time to parse them out. jj
  21. If you think you might tolerate a somewhat softer action, try The Cashion Icon series Multi-Purpose Rod. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Cashion_ICON_Series_Multi_Purpose_Rods/descpage-CFMPR.html Be aware, however, that these rods have micro-guides. Some people like them, some people don't. Good luck ! jj
  22. I always try to pre-rig flukes. If I do it at home, using a Vise-grips to keep a stable hold on the hook, I can get them straight about every time. If I do it in the field, it's crooked about every time. When I used other plastic baits, I had no problems except with flukes. And now, flukes are the only soft plastics that I still use. Sometimes I wonder why I make the choices I do. ??? jj p.s. - I also pre-rig trailers on Johnson Silver Minnow spoons.
  23. It look like the passage of time has not given much respect to that design. jj
  24. That's because my fiance, isnt on this Forum. Krista LOVES it. From what I heard, there are a lot of people who love it ..... for the wrong reason. Cold brewed coffee is EXTREMELY high in caffeine. You have to dilute it accordingly to not get hooked on the rush. Because cold-brewed isn't as acidic, it can taste smooth even when it's as strong as a double shot of espresso. So many, many people don't dilute it correctly. jj
