Are the shops doing a bad job of spooling?
After thinking about what you said, @Pkfish49, I may have a tip ....... or not. ? You said " .... later in the day .... ", so the second wind knot is taking some time to build up. You also said that you were closing the bail by hand. Is it possible that you are closing the bail on a half-loop of line without noticing it? That half-loop will eventually build up into a wind knot. There's a difference between wind knots caused by that sort of twist and wind knots caused by stuff like spinners and snapping spoons. Wind knots caused by lure action are generally within the first ten or so yards of line that you cast out; the lure is at the end of your line, the lure action is at the end of your line, and the twist is at the end of your line. But line twist caused by dropping a half loop off the spool will build up at the back of your line, closer to the reel. Have you noticed which location the wind knots occur? I dunno ........ just a thought. ? jj

Are the shops doing a bad job of spooling?
Could be, because he says he'll have a return of the problem later in the day. @Pkfish49, are you using in-line spinners? If so, are you using a ball-bearing swivel to reduce twist? Which brand and model of 4000-size reel are you using? Are you filling the spool full right to the lip rim? Help us here with some info, and I'll bet we can help you! jj

Truck Detailing
Don't let that bother you. There's always going to be someone who's annoyed by something you do ...... or something someone else does, or whatever. It's just the nature of the human race. They say it takes all kinds. That's wrong. We've GOT all kinds, but it doesn't TAKE all kinds. ??? jj

Line Reviews?
Yup, you hit the nail on the head. Basically, I don't trust reviews at all, whether they're good or bad. So I do what I did before the internet existed: I try it for myself and make my own decision. It's the only 100% tried-and-true method that there is. It works for line on this reel, on that reel, in the heat and in the cold, for short casters and long casters, on stiff rods and noodly rods. It works for spinning reels and for casting reels. And yes, it can get expensive. $$$ ??? But if you take someone else's advice and find out that it doesn't work for you, you still spent the same amount of money anyway, didn't you? Sometimes the hard way is the easy way, and the easy way is the hard way. jj

Night fishing
I'm a shorecaster. Some years ago, I was walking at night on a perfectly flat, smooth surface alongside the river. The next thing I knew, I was headfirst in the Mississippi. Hit my head on some rocks. Still have the scar. I don't fish at night, lantern or no lantern, companions or no companions. You can have it, I don't want it. ? jj

New St Croix rod
I was told that the person who designed the St. Croix rods prior to 2020 has now moved on, and is working for Batson. That might have something to do with it. I was told that person's name, but I've forgotten it. jj

Why are fishermen called “sticks”?
Pejorative term for rods, maybe? jj

Winter 2020-2021
Ya gotta love that last sentence! "A storm tracking across the region spread 2 to 5 inches of snow across much of the region, but one of the bigger factors was strong winds that caused the snow to blow and drift. Roads were "completely covered" with snow around the time of the accident, according to the Iowa DOT, and travel was not advised. It is unclear if weather was a factor in the cause of the crash."

30 lb braid problems on baitcast reel
On the internet, anyone can say anything that they want. It doesn't need to be true. Not only that, but there are people who post things that they really, really believe are true and believe work just fine. They're right .... for them, but wrong ......... for you. I've said it before, and although it might sound crude, the best advice is to try something YOURSELF, and believe what you see with your own eyes. That way, if you happen to do something differently than some other poster, you'll know the truth FOR YOU. Figuring out the difference between what you're doing and what the other poster is doing is, to my mind, immaterial. Don't worry about it. BTW .... 30 lb. Berkley Fireline Ultra 8 is .015", the same as 50 lb. Smackdown or Asegai. jj

That Thing You Do. . . . .
I've tried that, and I found out that different spoons have a different level of action. On a few, even a small addition to the hook kills the action. On others, you can add quite a bit to the spoon with no problem. Unfortunately, it's expensive to find the differences across the board. $$$$$$$$ ??? jj

That Thing You Do. . . . .
I use spoons a lot .... sometimes in places they hang up way too easily. Then I remove the treble (or Siwash) hook and attach a worm hook that I've dressed. I might not hook up as many hits, but I don't snag up as much, either: jj
