  1. Just picked up a Daiwa Rebellion 7' ML and paired it with my Steez SV 6.3
  2. I buy most of my reels from Digi. Got my Steez A for $350 which is a considerable savings over US prices and I get them quicker than I do when dealing with US sellers. And no, there's no import or duty fees. Just ordered a Luvias with a shallow spool which is not available in the US and it was $80 less than what US sellers ask for the deep spool version. It's almost a given for me to shop at Digi. Another example of savings is a Steez CT SV....$470 from Digitaka vs. $700 from TW....?
  3. Going to be very difficult to find an inexpensive reel that is also super light. I own some Daiwa Revros and Regals and for the money, they'll be about the lightest and most solid reels you'll get for around $60. I REALLY like the Regal. I can't believe how smooth and tough that reel is for the money. I dug through the line up from Shimano, Abu, Lews, Okuma, etc. and most reels in that price range are about 1/2 to 2 oz heavier than the Daiwa.
  4. Even the lightest rods can feel tip heavy at times, so it really comes down to balance. Let's face it, if a couple of ounces is going to break you, you've got some issues to iron out. If a rod is a bit tip heavy, I would probably pair it with a slightly heavier reel to balance it out.
  5. The Alphas SV TW is pretty small. Maybe about 15% smaller than the new Zillion. It is a super smooth reel and it's size didn't stop me from pulling this tank out of a local pond.
  6. LOL. I was thinking the same thing. I thought 2013 was only 8 years ago...?
  7. Yeah ignore what I said. LOL. I was looking for a quick answer since I'm at work but decided to be bad and use more time searching. I only have a few reels I've done this to...and it looks like I know what I'll be doing this weekend. ?
  8. Shimano uses teflon grease on their AR bearings...so now I'm really curious about this no grease on AR bearings...
  9. Why...they come with grease. And I've added grease to AR bearings when cleaning reels. Please explain. I've had zero issues and end up with smooth running reels.
  10. LOL. A no-no? And why is that? I've serviced all my reels and the anti-reverse bearing should be packed with grease. None of my Daiwa have had such a racket and I own and have owned dozens of them.
  11. Sounds like maybe there's some play in the anti-reverse bearing. I would take the handle, drag dial off and pull the cylinder to expose the anti-reverse bearing and pack it with grease and then re-assemble and see if it's still there.
  12. In that price range and broad range of uses... Daiwa Rebellion 7'3" MH Megabass Levante 7'2" Diablo Spec R St Croix Victory 7'3" MH "Marshal" Fenwick Techna PX 7'3" MH (overlooked and fantastic rod)
  13. Not at all. I really only have two hi speed reels. One I use frequently (Zillion 10) and I mostly use that for heavy cover (in to cover, a few jiggles of the bait, then out quickly to hit another spot unless there's a fish on the line then I want it out of that cover asap). Most of my reels are in the 6 and 7 ish speeds. Up until a handful of years ago, 6 ish speed reels were hi speed and 7 ish were considered super hi speed.
  14. Tatula CT is a bit lighter and has a couple more bearings...but they are similar.
  15. Slowing down is less of a work out and than trying to crank fast to get extra speed...I'd go with what the others said and get the 8. If they have a Tatula CT in the 7.1:1 you might want to consider that. Only $20 more than the Fuego.
  16. I used to only buy rods with cork, but then I've been fishing for 35 years and over that time, the EVA has gotten much better. Now it really doesn't matter to me. I have rods with both cork and EVA.
  17. If you end up with a Daiwa reel with the SV spool, take a look at this video. Also, if you get an Elite, they have what Daiwa calls the 'zero adjust' which is basically how Ehrler is setting up the spool tension but adjusted from the factory. You can still play around with it, but it's probably not necessary. I have a Tatula 100 that has that feature I use for frogging. I've never touched the spool tension knob and never had a backlash.
  18. Really? I must be doing something wrong (or right) as they cast further than I really need them to...
  19. Snail mail....you'll wait a month for your item...or you could spend $189 to get it in 3 weeks...LOL I believe all SVs now have their T Wing system, so really no difference (they came out with a Fuego SV without the T Wing if you can find it). The Elite does not have the SV spool (Stress Free-Versatile). You can find the older model Zillion SVs for about $200-250 now if you shop around. The SVs still hold plenty of line unless you really plan on casting further than a football field...?
  20. I use Zillion SVs for both my crankbait and spinner bait reels. Nothing wrong with using those reels for distance casting.
  21. I'll add another vote for the Daiwa Aird-X. I'm still trying to figure out how Daiwa can produce such a nice piece at a $50 price point.
  22. I've had the bail arm on a Lew's spinning reel blow out. It was insane...I was reeling in a fish and I heard what sounded like a firecracker go off and felt a sting on my hand. The assembly just blew apart on me.
  23. I moved to Indiana from Illinois 11 years ago. At the time, property tax was nearly $5k a year in IL. Got a similar home in IN and even 11 years later my property taxes are just over $800 a year. We were in Cook Co. and when we moved, the county literally charged us a $1,000 fee for leaving the county! Disgusting! How the heck can you legally charge someone to move away? Almost 20 years ago I lived in Missouri. I had moved from a small duplex that we sold for $116k in IL. It was a 900 sq ft 2 bdrm duplex...the house we got in MO was 3,300 sq ft on an acre of property for $89k! Our property taxes in MO were just over $300 a year! LOL
