  1. Puuuuleeeeeeze! They'll do this little experiment and still be scratching their heads. If my memory serves me correctly, I think they built a similar particle accelerator her in North Texas a few years back, abandoning their research after many attempts.
  2. I read a roadside sign in East Texas once that read, "FARWOULD FOR SALE". No kidding. One I'll always remember was found a little farther up the road on the front fence of a ranch: "BEAFMASTER BULLS FOR SALE". Good Lord, people, don't you proof-read anything before painting it on a sign! :-? I'm actually proud that Texas fell out of the top ten obese states. I think we've been there for some time. Maybe all the heat this summer sweated it out of us.
  3. Gee, I bet her arms are getting tired!!
  4. It all depends on how you look at being rich!! We had a pastor come to our church last spring. He had been overseas on a mission trip to Africa for several months. One night, he was asking some of the local tribal kids what they would wish for if they had only one wish. The first little girl stepped up to him and said, "A pencil." Moral of the story. . . BE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU GOT, YOU DON'T HAVE IT SO BAD AFTERALL!!
  5. Not at all. I thought it was hilarious, too. 8-)
  6. It was very cool yesterday (Tuesday). It's quite a change from 108 degree weather, which i really really don't miss. I am a winter kind of guy anyways. I would rather be out fishing in 40 degree weather with light rain than in march or april 8-). I've always been more partial to cold weather too. In the heat, you can only take off SO many clothes. Here in Texas, you could run around "nekkid" and still be hot. At least in the winter, you can always put more clothes on.
  7. You thought it was inappropriate? Have you gone and found religion on me Avid? JK ;D I'm with others. . it pays the bills so we don't have to. Obviously, their ad has worked if it caught our attention. As far as her looks, they didn't want to use a total hotty and discourage all you ugly mugs!
  8. It's been in the 70's and 80's here in North Texas all week. It is odd to see cold fronts passing through our area this early. I wonder if winter will be colder this year, too. No complaints, mind you!!
  9. Dadgummit Sam!! I had you for serious before clicking in. I should have known better. Good one, none-the-less.
  10. Lol I do that..but I do it everyday (saavedra dont you say a word...) I thought only girls did that. ;D Back in the day, I'd take my clothes from a pile in the floor, smell it and throw it against the wall. If it didn't stick, I could wear it another day!
  11. I'm sorry, but being able to memorize information and pass an exam does not qualify anyone to hunt. To be a true hunter, you need to be able to properly handle and shoot a firearm, understand the habits of the game, read game sign, perhaps make life or death decisions, etc. These are all things that can only come from experience and training from another responsible hunter. I don't think there's any reason to allow any kid younger than 12 to hunt own their own, no matter who they are. JMHO
  12. That definitly won't work cuz he is a wimp and i would probly break his nose and would twist his arm outta socket.....i've suggested we get boxing gloves and headgear so when it gets heated we can duke it out, but he said no... what might that mean? Have you tried accepting the fact that he is younger and is going to act that way? Just take it with a grain of salt, its going to happen again trust me . Thank you Jake for bringing around a serious tone. Andrew, the guys are just poking fun like he said. I'm sure if you could think back a bit, you would realize how immature you were at age 12. Let him be and tell him later that you really care for him. Cherish the time with your brother, for a day will come when you only speak to each other two or three times a year like my brother and I do. Oh, and there's a little thing on your keyboard called a "caps" button. . . it works fine at the beginning of sentences. 8-) Long Mike would so appreciate that! (I'm poking fun, like the others. . . in a good way. . . LOL)
  13. Zel, You are totally blowing us all away! I like the subliminal message the best!! -Fisher
  14. And. . . BTW guys, I plan on using this poll as a reference in my comments to the Parks and Wildlife commision. THANKS for voting!! -Fisher
  15. For any who question Texas' law, here's a link: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/learning/hunter_education/required.phtml Further research on the topic states that this new law took effect back in April of this year. My take on this is that a 9 year old can legally take to the field alone after passing a hunter ed. course. I myself, too, was dove hunting with a .410 around age 8 or 9, but not by myself until I was around 15 or 16. Up to that point, I had been accompanied unarmed in the field with my dad just about all my life. One of you mentioned the word "common sense". I don't know about anyone else, but I've experienced way too many parents who had no common sense (remember, I've taught in public school for 16 years). For some time now, Texas has not required any kind of "structured" driver training for 15-16 year olds who seek to get their driver's license. Parents can pay a fee and "promise" to train their children themselves. I have witnessed quite a few over the years who paid the fee and handed the keys over to the kid without spending ample time with them training them to drive. IMO, the driving habits of our youth here have worsened since then. I fear this may happen with our kids in the hunting field. Passing an exam does not qualify anyone to perform either task. Students need to be properly trained in the technical aspects of either endeavor before taking to the road or field. I DO plan on taking action by writing and/or calling our Parks and Wildlife commissioners regarding this decision.
  16. As a hunter education instructor, I was shocked to hear that the new minimum age to take a hunter education course is now 9 years old in Texas, not 12 years old as was the minimum for many years now. This means that, technically, a parent can legally turn a 9 year old loose with a firearm to go hunting on their own. IMO, I think this is way too young for a child to be hunting on their own. I am sure there are many 9 year old children out their who can hunt with the best of them, but I would question the maturity level of most kids this age. As an instructor, I personally am hesitant to sign off on these youngsters. I would feel really lousy if one of them had an accident on my watch. What do you all think? :-?
  17. "I pity the fool who gets in the water with me!!" - Mr. P ;D
  18. Unfortunately, this happens way too often in the DFW area as well. I know it's easy to jump on the parent's case, but just imagine the grief that a parent might feel. I'm not defending her, but what if her spouse is normally the one who drops the kid off? What if the kid fell asleep on the way to work? Perhaps she was late for work, encountered someone in the parking lot as she got out, etc? Either way, this is VERY tragic.
  19. Me too. Not that you were fishing for it, but I do enjoy having you around here. You always post with honor and integrety (as we all should). Thanks for being here Preach!! -Fisher
  20. AL, I am thrilled to hear you made it safely!! It sounds like your priorities are in the right place. God, family, fishing. . . just like your avatar says. Rest up and enjoy life on the mainland! God bless, Fisher Home!!!!
  21. Definitely a knee slapper. I've never heard it before!
  22. Doesn't Bob have a daughter with no arms and no legs?. . . she hangs around the basketball court. . I think her name is ANNETTE. Oh, and BTW. . . she has two cousins, a brother and sister in the same condition. . . they hang around the BBQ pit. . . their names are FRANK and PATTY. Oh, another on the beach. . . her name is SANDY. Someone once threw her in the ocean and she became SANDY DUNCAN!! Well, you all started it. . . :-[
  23. Still there, buddy. Get home safely!!! -Fisher
  24. Hey ID, I saw a pink one (Polaris maybe) at the Branson BPS the other night on vacation (I think 90 cc). My nine-year-old daughter looked at the tag (it was $200 off) and said, "Look daddy, it's only two thousand three hundred dollars." I'm sure these are somewhat cheaper than that. Have you checked at Tractor Supply Company. I think they sell some small ones (maybe Manco?) for reasonable prices (around $500-$1000). I'm not sure of the quality, but it's another option. -Fisher Edit: Here's a link: It's a little over $1000: http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay_10551_10001_37511_-1______?rFlag=true&cFlag=1 I still think some stores sell one cheaper than that. -FOM
