Does anyone besides me still buy CD's?
The discussion came up recently that some members of our younger generation will never shop at a record/CD store. I still buy about half of my music on CD's and download the other half (although slowly downloading more often). I have noticed the music sections at Best Buy and other retailers have gotten smaller over the last couple of years. I find it kind of sad that record stores will soon fall by the wayside. How do you get your music?

Employment Question
I'm with Long Mike. Just accept it and search for another job. If you fight this, there would likely be a very strained relationship with your superiors and you might find yourself forced to quit in the future. Then, there's no chance at unemployment and no job. Also, for what it's worth consider these options for survival on the lower salary: -Cut out the cable/satellite TV (if you're not under contract) and watch local antenna channels. -Cut your cell service/home phone to minimum (or cut out one all together; maybe you don't need a home phone. -Eat out less, no more movies/movie rentals, etc. -If you have a note on a car and can get out from under it, sell it and pay cash for a used vehicle. -Lower your utility bills (thermostat at 80, cold-water washing, etc.) Overall, cut your budget back to NEEDS, not WANTS. Good luck through all of this. Be aggressive at looking for a new job and remain upbeat. This is only temporary.

NCAA FB National Champion Predictions
SEC winner vs. Big 12 winner. If that happens to be Oklahoma, they'll lose. Stoops has stooped too much in his bowl games of late. I question whether or not he has what it takes to win the REAL big one anymore.

I must offer a beerpology...
Although not a drinker anymore, back in the day my brand was that stuff called FREE. Nothing like it. ;D Seriously, we'd buy a six pack of the good stuff and a case of cheap stuff. After the first three or four, you quit caring what it tastes like.

None. I'm like Muddy. I socialize with LIVE people in person. As far as keeping up with others where I grew up, I really don't care too. That may change as I attend my 20 year reunion in a couple of weeks.

College Football - Week 1
Don't get your hopes up, Hookemdown. I listened to part of the game on the radio as well, and we laid down in the second half. I'm not taking anything away from your Red Wolves, but we are not near as strong as Aggie teams of the distant past. Can you say "re-build"?

I've always admired Jimmy Houston. It sounds like a pretty neat event in your life. "Hey Jimmy, I think we'll have to go again sometime. . ." I so loved his old theme song. I wish I could download it somewhere.

Youth Golf Sets
It's probably my infatuation. If she could only make it on the LPGA tour, I might have a pretty good retired life. 8-) Believe me, I know my daughter. She has tried the guitar and piano and quit both (no different than I as a youngster). I would never invest much into it until I know she's serious about it. I thought these were starter sets. If you mean individual kids' clubs, at $10 a piece, I'd already be up to 30 bucks for a putter, iron, and driver. I might as well spring for the other 20 and get a bag and a couple of more clubs included.

WELL????
Congratulations, Al. Home, family, fishing, AND a promotion. Well-deserved, young man!! God bless, Fisher

Youth Golf Sets
I have recently decided to get back into golf a little. I haven't played for over three years and was hitting some balls the other day and my nine year old daughter picked up a 7 wood and started hitting some. She didn't do half bad, but the club seemed too long for her. Have any of you purchased youth clubs before and is there anything I should look for (brand, quality, etc.)? Here are two sets that I found (of course the pink one would be right up her alley): http://www.amazon.com/Texan-Classics-Junior-Tour-stand/dp/B001CXACGG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1219755753&sr=1-2 http://www.amazon.com/Golf-Girl-Junior-Ages-Stand/dp/B000KH1BF6/ref=pd_sim_sg_c1_15 Like any other hobby for children, I don't want to spend much more than this in case she loses interest. Any advice would be appreciated. Also, any advice on teaching her to golf might be helpful. She and I are equally hard-headed and she tried to resist any pointers I offered. What about a lesson or two from a golf pro? Thanks, Fisher

Wear Your Colors on Friday
I'll be rooting for the ASU Indians Red Wolves. BECAUSE I-N-D-I-A-N-S spells VICTORY!! wait a second, they changed that too. BECAUSE R-E-D-W-O-L-F spells VICTORY!! I'll be going to ASU next fall BTW. ;D Well, I'd throw some trash back your way, but I think Ark. State gave Texas a run last year. I hope our Aggie faithful are really pumped up when you all come down to Kyle Field on Saturday. The unfortunate thing is that I'll have to listen to it on the net or radio.

Like crack they are!
I showed them to my wife and she ordered me a sampler pack. I'll be addicted in a few days, I'm sure. Thanks to you, Burley, I might be paying the "fat tax" soon! :

US SLACK & Field Team
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/olympics/wires/08/22/2080.ap.as.oly.usoc.beijing/ ""Overall, we look at this as one of the great successes in U.S. Olympic history,'' USOC chief executive officer Jim Scherr said, citing medals in team sports and across a spread of different events and disciplines." I think preach was referring to the overall track team performance? It depends on your measure of success. If your all about gold medals, we've fallen short of the mark. Darn, those Chinese!!

US SLACK & Field Team
He's working for the BBC :-? I saw that the other day. Don't we have a commentator from Trinidad-Tobago or somewhere? I know he has an accent. You'd think NBC could antie up and get an American former track star! Maybe our tracksters need to take a lesson from our gymnists or swimmers?

Hunter education poll
This is certainly true in some cases, but how many times have you heard of the hunter shooting his friend? Or the hunter mistaking an animal for another hunter? Not long ago a father shot his son turkey hunting. See, IMO it works both ways. Since we are on subject I will go ahead and rant... Where I live the deer population is exploding. Deer are eating crops, damaging cars, and hurting people. People around here have tried for years and years to extend hunting seasons and allow hunting on Sundays to control the population. Just recently the state threw out a couple of ideas about extending rifle season because of the lack of hunters and the outrageous deer population. Now, it kind of errks me that people are still trying to restrict the hunter's rights. It is obvious that deer need to be shot, but we have the people that want to throw out random "laws" to improve safety. Back on topic... Even if the age is lowered to 9, the decision is ultimately up to the parents, as it should be. Will every parent with a 9 year old set them loose? No, I doubt it. Honestly, I would not have been allowed to hunt by myself at 9 years old. It should be up to the parents to decide, not me, you or the state. Thanks for reading! Davis, Having read accident reports over the last 10-15 years here in Texas in my educator newletters, there are always one or two "Hunter's Judgement/mistaken identity" accidents, but there are always as many or more where a hunter shot or cut themselves in the femural artery or one where a hunter was gored by wild hogs and they bled to death as no one was there to call or go get help. As long as both hunters are properly trained and experienced, I would totally agree with RW's recommendation.
