I always use the Alberto Knot for Leader to Braid. Hopefully the uni-to-uni knot is the problem and not the diameter of the 50lb braid and 20lb leader combination on your equipment ....... get that knot tight and those tags cut close. I personally do not add a leader to the larger diameter braids ..... 40lbs plus because i use it in heavy cover only.

When I can add a Green Pumpkin with Copper Fleck soft plastic to any initial color presentation I will ..... so nope from me.

With the recommendations from members above ..... that should cover most of the Food Groups.

Exactly, and that is why the more experienced anglers on this site will ask the poster about species, location, depth, cover, temperature etc. so that they may give their best possible "suggestion only"! The information provided is a best guess based on the information provided ..... A Starting Point if you will.

At 50 years old, I have a similar history. Primary target over those years has been smallmouth, and if i exclude lipless crankbaits and jerkbaits, my spinner bait and lipped crankbait smallmouth numbers are extremely low and not by lack of trying in the early years. Did i fish them too fast? too slow? too shallow? too deep? Your guess is as good and probably better than mine. One thing i know for certain, my level of success is well below freezing.

Fishing 10-12 times per year, i think your 6:3:1 gear ratio baitcaster is perfectly fine. There is more than enough presentations to fulfill your fishing time with your existing baitcaster. Good luck and try to add a few more days fishing ..... it is good for the soul.

In our club tournaments, a few members will spend most of their day traveling from one beaver house to the next. If the house (old or new) has enough water around it, more often than not, it holds fish.
