  1. ...for insight you can’t find on google. LOL the thread morphed into something else
  2. What’s the advantage of the 6-8lb braid vs 10lb? Just distance? It seems to me the 10-30lb is as castable as you could want and won’t break which is really the point of braid. At 6-8 you might as well use straight flouro or a flourescent line for hi vis
  3. What’s the point in 7-8l braid? 10 is already thinner than you even need. I imagine 6 is easy to abraise
  4. Why ask here? You can google the whole list. It’s on wideopenspaces . Com
  5. I’m just getting into d-shot but I’ve really recognized it’s superior versatility for some time. It’s vertical and horizontal like ppl say. The one advantage of c-rig is that it’s free floating so it does look more natural when on the move imo.
  6. Pressure can definitely affect things. Many good spots have been totally fished out around here. Even in managed parks. This quarry has no pressure tho. It's out of the way and private. Worth a shot. I wouldn't know how to even work a big Swimbait in most spots because it's so deep. I'll try it on the roadway in tho. It's definitely not lacking in food. Maybe otters came through or something.
  7. Almost. Had a $230 rod n $250 reel setup in a coil spike rod holder at night with a plopper tied on and out in the water. Crossed over my own line with a t-rig worm and was slowly hoping it back when the plopper was hammered. 3lb Fish hit it and the whole setup came out of the ground and went sailing. So did I. Right into the dark cold water. Lol saved the setup tho. ? lesson #2 was a fish will hit a non plopping, virtually immobile whopper plopper. ..oh I even landed the fish after all that
  8. Thanks. I think that’s the issue. Carrying capacity just maxed out a bit larger than average pond bass since it’s such a good habitat. I wish I could manage it but it’s not mine. I just pop in and act friendly. Yet to be kicked out. Thermocline usually around 45 ft. There’s tons of bass. More than I’ve ever seen in one place at once. They suspend on shelves 30ft down or just in open water. There’s shelves every 10ft or so. What i I don’t know, and have wondered about, is if it ever turns over. I don’t know if the depths ever warm enough to do so. Maryland. I’ve caught some over 6-7 lb bass from other spots nearby
  9. Northeast. It’s got a feeder creek. Lots of pumpkinseeds too. They eat a lot of craws tho. I do a regurgitation test occasionally. Baby brush hog huh. I was thinking yum craw bug. I’m fishing from shore. Since it’s so rocky I don’t think the see me coming. I’m a creeper. Lol I’d be happy with a 6lber. And sure it’s still a lot of fun I’m just genuinely shocked they arnt bigger How long did it take to see the change? This place is fertile. Tons of fresh inflow. Gills and craws abundant.
  10. Sure. Diving cranks definitely dig bottom. Bladebaits don’t dig at all.
  11. LOL. Fair enough it was the top post. I didn’t look at date. So your saying Chatterbaits can basically replace a crank in most situations unless your really trying to cause a ruckus?
  12. If vibration is the ticket, why not just use Chatterbait a instead? They’re easier to feel on a stiffer rod and work at any depth...
  13. Yea I’ve got em in every color at this point but on the water changes are a pain. To to be clear I’m talking about brushing on a few feet every 10ft or so for the first 50 feet. Not the whole line capacity. Figure I’d brush in and let soak in water a few min so it doesn’t spread too much and get all over the rod or reel. Might even add good a scent trail.
  14. Anyone ever tried using dippin dye or jjs on their line (braid or flouro) for line watching? Im wondering if it would damage the line. If not, it seems like a good idea...
  15. Water in order of spring activity timing (earliest to latest): Rivers Small Lowland Res natural lakes Ponds large lowland Res Highland Res
  16. Boo hoo. Lol SC is probably the best fishing in the country. I lived there till last year. In MD now. Horrible winter indeed
  17. Really only hold 2-5lb bass?? One of my favorite spots to fish is an old rock quarry which has perfect seeming conditions and relatively clear turquoise water. I’ve only caught up to 3 1/2 pound bass here however. The other day I was talking to someone that lives on the property and they said they’d only ever caught a 5 pounder. I feel like there must be some monsters in there but this guys been fishing it for decades so I’m wondering if it’s even possible there is such an over abundance of medium size bass that there are actually no big ones.? Or they’re just really hard to find/catch. Thoughts?
  18. There are many magic numbers in biochemistry and physiology...The only thing special about 50 that I’m aware of is the it’s 1deg over 49, honestly. Bass will bite below 45. Some of the biggest fish are caught in the dead of winter. At 55-56 a lot of enyzmyes key up significantly and with them metabolic rate. Around 48-52, some agae blooms which oxygenates the water some and stimulates the bottom-up food chain. For bass, it’s the seasonal trend that’s most important. It needs to be warming, 45-50-55 etc and rising steadily to get the cycle really going.
  19. Yea man. It split my finger wide open. My guess is all the salt in the original came out into the gulp liquid and poop went skin cells. Pop I mean ?
  20. I’ve learned the hard way not to mix powerbait with gulp! Alive. Gave me some wicked chemical burns (osmolysis) of the skin around my nails/cuticles. My question is now about mixing the new maxcent with gulp alive... any reason not to? also does anyone know the difference between gulp Alive and maxscent? Can you use the maxcent liquid on gulp and vis versa?
  21. I take surface and subsurface readings a lot. I guess I need a depth probe to determine the thermocline or lack there of. The place is 100ft derp in a gorge surrounded by hills so not much wind.
  22. I wind mono or copoly around the joint to fill the body gaps and keep it straight. Works just like a normal jerkbait.
  23. Doesn’t that stuff stink forever? I was thinking to use clear coat spray for doing the same thing. Cover hooks, Spray on and sprinkle glitter.
  24. @Paul Roberts one place I fish is a very deep quarry. Do you know if is there a decent equation or graph for determining stratification, temp at a given depth? Eg. Given: surface temp, rate of change, shallow subsurface temp( 4-10ft), x Coeficient, #ft (target depth) With or without factoring in current, clarity etc? Thx!
  25. Hey all. I’m checking out portable diamond stone sharpeners for on the water touch ups. What grit/grain is recommended? I’m looking at 400 - 600. Thanks!
