  1. Good pay. They don't need any welders do they. LolI love welding but the pay here sucks. 11 hr building barges. Using a 33 lb roll of flux core a day. Yea I think not. I Keep going back to painting houses. If someone had just told me what an engineer did besides building bridges I'd have stayed in school. Darn that would have been cool. Whats your job title anyway. I must have missed something.
  2. Like when you hit one of those perfect few days where you catch one on almost every cast. Until your arms feel like there going to fall off. And you actually change baits just to slow down the bite. Lol! Yep it's a sport!
  3. LOL me to!You made me think of something I done one time. Just bought a 14ft Hydra Sport boat from a guy and took it to the water to try. Pulled up and got straight with the ramp but as I backed it over the sharp top of the ramp I lost site of the boat out my jacked up broncos rear window and all mirrors. As the trailer hit the ramp the boat was so light it bounced on the groves and jackknifed. Lucky I couldn't find the sucker and got nervous. So I got out for quick peek as I neared the tailgate I kept thinking where the heck did the boat go. ( I kept looking back at the water and thinking heck it would have floated the trailer had it came loose!) Finally found it on the right side full 90% angle the tires an inch from a two ft drop off of the edge. One more inch and it wouldn't have been pretty. Took four more try's before I slowed down enough to stop the bounce. Then I was smack dab in the middle of a two lane ramp. Lucky it was an off day and no one needed the ramp or seen my antics. I'm buying a Ranger next time. Heard they where the heaviest. Lol
  4. I make my own crude topo maps.If its a good spot and I want to remember it. No how fast a sinker falls and you'll have general idea of the depth. Drag it and find the bottom contour and and make up. Along with any structure I can make out. Later if the water goes down il draw in anything I missed or of interest. Like crappie stake beds. And GPS them suckers when I can. I've tried Carolina rigging but I forget what I'm doing and start fishing. Lol. Great way to pass the time when the waters low is to drive around and have a look.
  5. Ouch! They do it here from time time too. Lol I hate putting in when someone's watching. I'm no pro for sure and if I get in a hurry trying to get out of others way I'm all over the place. Lol. Learned a lot watching others though. Mostly things not to. Like one guy putting the motor down while the other backed him down the ramp. Not once but three times he put the prop in the cement before the boat could float up off the trailer. After getting a cursing from the owner he just left it up. Then the owner gets in and starts it prop still out of the water. I thought I was gonna get the next cursing I couldn't help but LOL! Best guy thought me how to do it alone. He backed down to the water. Tossed his rope from the boat over the wench handle. Backed into the water, taped the brakes, boat slide off trailer and out in the water, hit the end of the rope. Then he pulled up about a ft. Rope stretched and pulled boat back straight bumping the end roller ever so gently but quickly. He jumped back out rapped the rope around a rock and drove off. Boat sit there about ten ft off the ramp pretty as picture. Took no more then three mins from start to gone. And still the best I've seen.
  6. Lol. One word. EBAY! People are selling there stickers. I said I'd pay but dang they want to much money for some of them! Might buy a few of them. I can't stand it. I want stickers darn it. Lol
  7. I used to use smaller brown/ green color jigs mimicking the craw fish I was used to seeing in creeks. Never could figure why the fish at the local park wouldn't take them. Then when the water was down low one year I noticed the craw fish holes under the rip/rap bank. So I turned over the rocks and dang what the heck kinda crawfish are those suckers. Most where 4 to 6inches long and black with ( best I remember) purple dots on there claws. Thinking they had an orange dot on them somewhere to. And I mean bright colors when you looked closely. Now I use big black / blue jigs there and they get bit big time! When I can afford it I'm gonna see if someone on here can make me some black purple with one orange string. If it's anything like the lake I fish here I under stand the summer weeds. Try early spring. The cold kills it back. Especially pay attention to the smaller clumps when you hit and find them. Might not be any one home today but if it's in the right place there may be ten on one three ft circle tomorrow when you hit it. Lipless crank baits are best for weeds. Don't jerk when they hit it if you don't have to. Jerking will make it dive in deeper. Just keep reeling and it will pop free and usually clean. And as said that's when you'll get bit often times.
  8. Went to the local power plant today. Now it's always been a ton of trash thrown down everywhere. But it's even worse now. You'd think people would be getting smarter. But apparently not! As it started to rain I stepped under the bridge to get out of it. But couldn't stand the racket. The water was porting threw the drain holes above and hitting piles of plastic bottles and cans. You've never heard such a racket. As I looked around I couldn't help but think you'd think people would wise up. Places have been closed all around here due to dumping and just general trash thrown down. Just ticks me off. Yards of Line laying everywhere. I once had to wrestle a duck down in the mud to cut him loose from a hole spool of line. He probably lost the foot in the long run. If I could just catch one of these idiots striping line off a reel and leaving it. I'm gonna take a stick to him. Picked up a half a five gallon bucket full today alone. And I wish I'd taken a picture of the bay at our old camp site. (Would have made a nice please don't little sign.)The water was unusually low one year. And you wouldn't believe the amount of blue plastic worm containers alone. I'd bet $20 bucks it was more then a thousand in that bay alone. Drifted in there somehow. Could have filled two dump trucks with the total trash. Looks like they'd make worm containers bio degrade by now heck I'd pay extra for it! We have an open container law here now so I can see why there's so many beer cans and bottles. But worm containers and line are the two things I really go out of my way to pick up. Cause I no who they reflects on. Oh and I carry a bucket when bank fishing the local park ponds. It's not to keep fish it's to clean up behind the idiots that fish these places. And yet these places, one owned by the state are taking up there trash cans. Which causes the people that normally would carry it to a trash can to just throw it down. What the heck are my taxes paying for. There to busy doing what ever they do to even empty three trash cans a week. Three bags at most there. As I used them I no how much it was going out. They even had an ATV with a bed to do it. What the heck are the littering tickets that hard to enforce? If I was a cop I'd be on them idiots like stink on a skip jack. But no there to busy chasing down speeders. It must pay more. Umghh! Sorry just felt like venting. I feel slightly better some how. Maybe someone that does it will read this and think for a min.
  9. Um venison burgers. Freeze some bacon and ground in at about 1/4 ratio. Bacon deer cheese burgers. Over hickory. Uhmmm Anybody no how to make pickled eggs? I used to buy them in jars. And they where slightly hot. Only thing you could see in the juice was a pinch of red pepper flakes. But u could pick up on something else u couldn't put your finger on. Give me a reason to buy me some chickens again. Please! . Or pickled hotdogs?
  10. Hit the local power plant yesterday and today for couple hrs each day. Lots of stuffed small ones yesterday. Nothing but small striper/ hybrids today. And lots of rain. Need some rain and I hate to say cold weather. Wild eyes. would work great there only hung twice in two days. And with the water low to. Fella next to me was killing them with a Cast Master ( spoon typ bait with white feather treble hook) haven't used them in years but all the nearby bait and tackle stores had them in stock. Cool average $3.09 each not to bad.
  11. From my ATV days every time you ordered something you got a hand full of stickers. I can see the smaller company's wouldn't spring for them. But you no the rod/ reel company's can afford them. Heck I'd pay for the bigger ones. Wonder why you don't see them for sell in mags. Like you could for ATV,s. My step father used to be a boat salesmen. Man I wish he'd go back to it. Hydra Sport and a couple others used give away jackets. Hydra Sport supplied the salesmen family with jackets. And I mean nice ones to.
  12. Was a fishing show on TV um some 10 years or longer ago. Thinking it was jimmy Houston. Caught about three 10 + In a row and said heck lets try for ten over 10+ in a row. And did it. Unless they edited out the small ones. Which I figured. That's one place I'd love to go!
  13. Lol I was just telling my son last week. Even though we wasn't catching them I new we where on them cause you could see the fart bubbles coming up. Gassing bottom. But il swear it fish farts from now on. Lol
  14. Might be an ET with that big a head. Man I'd have the heevy geevys. But I'd have dropped a hook into it to see what it felt like at lease. I snagged an old military issue green rain coat tide in a knot around a hole change of cloths (two empty bank money bags) and shoes stuffed with rows of Snap On sockets to weigh it down. Turned into cops but never heard a word after that.
  15. Nothing wrong with used. The only thing I no to look at is the nose and rear to make sure it isn't wearing to thin. The plastic is so soft on mine that rocks cut the crap out of it. Another 10 to 20 trips and its going to being leaking somewhere. Little clear caulk should keep it dry though. Car wax works great on the bottom. Makes it slide threw the water twice as easy, fast. And it slides over rock easer as well.

I just meant Gorilla glue or some brand I could get from walmart. Last brand I tried didn't set fast or hard. Didn't no they would fix it that cheap though. It's most likely a cheap rod. I just meant good as in I just picked it up from a pawn shop and hadn't even fished with it yet. It's the second eye up so it's not doing much and it broke off deep enough to hold temporary at least to see if I like it.
  17. The wider the better as far as stabilty for sure. I'm not so sure on the flat bottom. I'm thinking it would paddle even worse then mine. If that's possible. But one things for sure if it has straight sides its going to have a point of no return much sooner then a semi round bottom. The semi round bottom will want to rite it self. I'm not so sure on the flat bottom. I think it will want to flip. When fishing your constantly leaning over the side to land fish or rocking over to one side hard when you have to breack the line or set the hook. Add another person into the mix and things can get scary. They will always do things when you least expect it. The flat would be much better for getting in and out on the bank however. I no I'm not much help. Lol. But you can try mine if you want to come by.
  18. Il second the keel making it track straighter. I've got the 14 ft BPS used to sell for $500 that sucker will not paddle straight regardless of what you do. How ever they do make it with a square back for trolling motor. Wish I'd gotton that model. I guess you'd say it's a rounded bottom. As far as stability it's good. However your not going to stand for long as it will wear you out. As far as turning over. When I first got it I tried several times. Finally steped up on the gun rail and put water over the side before losing my balance. Sucker is stable for a canoe. Better then my skinny 12 ft john boat by far. I don't even worry about the wakes off boat traffic. If it's not over three ft high il let it hit the side I don't even turn into it. Mighty big pain in the butt to get to the water to. Weighs 80 lbs. add tackle or many trips and it's a real pain. It's wider then even my ladder rack on my mini van. So I made a cradle to fit in the receiver on my truck to hold it upright in the bed. Without it I'd have left it at the lake by now. Let some other poor sucker have it. Anyway il second the kayak. Theres a couple of fishing shows on tv here where they use them. The ones with peddels are handy for keeping your place while landing fish. Sitting that low would be the bad side of it. As you can't see into the water as well. But getting it to the water would be much simpler.

Hey guys anyone used a brand of epoxy that sets fast and hard. I don't want to buy one that doesn't work like it's supposed to. Broke a middle eye off a good rod. Don't ask. Lol. If I can get a good sized glob on there I think it will stay.
  20. I mash mine shut to. I figure the fish have got to heal a lot faster. And bite again sooner hopefully.
  21. Oh man I've always wanted a 44 mag for hunting. Could have bought one from the pawn shop here years ago for $429. In box looked new. Man I kick myself daily. Love Ruger and Tuarus. They can keep the SW they don't even care enough to take the corners down. Feels sharp enough to almost cut u. The other two I mentioned cost less and much smoother feel inside and out to me anyway. Thought you where going to talk about pistol grip rods I was thinking dang they still sell those. . I could use a real pistol in the rod grip I think. I always see nice deer when fishing.
  22. I highly recommend 5:2:1 or even slower for worm fishing. ( wish I still had one of my old casters to compare a 4:3:1)( thinking that what I used to use years ago.) The fish have told me no matter how hard I try il end up fishing to fast with a 6:2:1. Even when just picking up slack u will get to fast. If your worming usually it's cause there not running things down. The only way your going to get the big girls is to go slow. Not sure how much difference it makes as I've never measured the actual line retrieved. But I use a longer handle ( Lews ). On my worming rod now, which will lower the retrieve speed even more. But it also gives a lot more cranking power. You'll need it for big girls. As for the rod you want the most sensitive you can find. Notice I didn't say afford. Some of the best rods I've had where around $40 bucks down side is they are sometimes more brittle and break easier. Team Diawa (worming rod ) for $100 is a nice rod if they still make them. Try taping the tip lightly on the floor when looking at them at the store you should be able to feel it. Note don't look at it, turn your head. And feel it, make sure your not just hearing it. Try a few you'll see what I mean. Then comparing the best two by finding something softer to tap on. If you can feel it in the store like that. It will feel like some one hit the end of it with a hammer when a big girl sucks it in. And when the winds blowing and you can't see your line you'll still feel the strikes. Even with slack hanging down you should be able to feel the fish looking at it. With slack hanging down like a weightless Senko you will feel it every time, none of that line moving sideways like a lot go guys say on here. I can't say I've ever had that happen. If you cant feel the tap on the floor il assure you your missing fish you never new where there when fishing it. As for the 7:2:1. Before I buy one I want to try someone else's. I just can't see them having enough cranking power. But they sure would be nice for buzz baits. And the rare occasion I get to burn lipless baits. Just my two cents ya feel me
  23. Man I can't wait for the bite to start. Does anyone else fish for them in the winter? Seems all I ever see on the net is about spring and summer jumps. But I grew up fishing for them in the river here during the winter. The colder and more miserable you are the better they bite. They usually end up biting best rite at the bank where the current breaks against a little cut in the bank or in the creek mouths. It's the one time when bank fishing is better then boat. We usually use the green and orangish yellow ( when we can find them, better then yellow )curly tail grubs. But last year I was wearing them out on a kick tail minnow. Black and silver. Feller I was talking to fishing beside me was using a white one. I'll catch every skip jack for mile around if I put on white. It's the one time when getting hung doesn't cost you much. Anything else cheap that works I may not have heard of. Gonna get my chain saw out and cut me a couple more places while the water is down. All the banks have fell in, in our best spots I fished as a child. I've got a neat way of walking on mud if anyone's interested? Involves cutting out two pieces of plywood and making loops out of nylon straps that you can put your feet threw and then you can walk on top of the deepest mud with no trouble. Like a duck.
  24. While bank fishing a small lake here with a buddy of mine. He leaned one rod against a bush behind him and was casting with the other. I missed a fish and he was being a smart butt and tried to hurry and throw on it before I could get mine in and cast again. Only he hung the top eye of his other rod while drawing back to make a mean cast. Man that sucker went half way across the lake. As the line snapped about half way threw the cast. Haha. I've done the same thing a couple of times. But got lucky and stopped the cast or it staid hooked so I could reel it back in. Man that's embarrassing to do with people walking by. Years ago when the reels didn't have infanant reverse. I had a five+ pounder slam a spinner bank rite as I was about to lift it out of the water scared me so bad I really slammed the hook set. Which broke the little plastic switch (diawa) that stopped it from going backward. Which resulted in a monster birds nest and sore fingers as the crank smacked them as it went backwards. Left me with ten feet of line out on a mean fish. I decide maybe I could step off in the water and give him a little. Didn't work and he broke off. Left me smacking the water with the rod and cursing like a sailer. Only to look up and see a large group (family) watching. They never seen the fish only me as they rounded the bend. I didn't even try to explain.
