  1. I use it for light worming- shaky heads, light jigs, mojo rigs, etc. I haven't had it long, but it is sweet for that. I was thinking about throwing pointers and pop-r's on it, because of the action. I know it'll put light lures out there a mile, esp. with that scorpion mg on it. I would say it is the perfect finesse worm baitcast combo, but I haven't tried any other apps. with it.
  2. GET the FALCON. Best rod $4$ on the market today.
  3. I'd get a Falcon Lowrider or a G Loomis GL2 in the price range your talking about. I have one of each, and like them both.
  4. I just bought a G Loomis spinnerbait rod last week. 6'3", can't remember the model #. I had a Quantum Accurist laying around, because it wasn't well matched with the IMX 782? rod and I put a Scorpion on it that made it perfect... Now that Accurist is perfectly matched. 90% of my spinnerbait fishing is roll casting to laydowns, and this new combo is perfect. ;D And I haven't even gotten my taxes back yet...
  5. What he said. Also, I watch my line t decide where the fish is going and turn the rod the opposite way. The only difference here is that I will hold my rod tip up until I think the fish has cleared all cover on the bottom. Then I fight him based on the direction my line is moving.
  6. I don't care who holds the world record, as long as the fish is indisputable. After all, isn't that the problem the Cali boyz have with Perry's fish? I don't think either of the catches Matt is describing are any less disputable than the original Perry record. So stick with Perry until somebody catches one that cannot be rebuffed. It will happen soon.
  7. One of my favorite patterns is to rip a pointer back to the boat as fast as I can in the fall, working bluff banks or open water for spotted bass. This technique produced my PB spot, which weighed over 5 lbs.
  8. If you start at 3/8, you are missing alot of fish that just don't want anything that fast. I start at 3/8 and work my way down. If the light weights arent working, then I'll go up.
  9. I always put something on the shank of my spinnerbaits, usually a 3-4" grub. The reason is simple. Bass use suction to pull the baitfish into their mouth. A plain spinnerbait will not vacume as easy as one with some bulk. I use trailer hooks too, unless the cover is too thick. I also like twin-tail spinnerbait trailers if I really want to cover some water.
  10. I know I'm gonna get pounded for it, but the only LC lure I like is the pointer or steysee. Sammys really dont produce well for me, I'd rather throw a spook jr. As for the rattlers, rat-l-trap is the only one I need. I really haven't tried any of their regular cranks, so I can't knock them.
  11. I've played with some Swarming Hornets jigheads with a Super fluke jr. It has produced fish for me, but I haven't really done it enough to get good at it. But it almost won the classic a few years ago.
  12. While any lure will work at the end of a c-rig, here are my faves. Finesse worm, brush hog, lizard, centipede, and 10+" worm for summer structure. Color isn't important, as long as you use GP, WM, RS, or JB. Oh, I forgot tubes. They are effective the way you described, but I would go more with a mojo rig with them.
  13. Your poor little bait monkey has been starving for almost five years! ;D You BETTER get him that filet mignon. ;D Welcome to the forums.
  14. One of my favorite windy day tactics (necessity being the mother of invention) is to find a point that the wind is blowing into, anchor deep, and cast to the bank with c-rigs, shaky rigs, or other worms on the lighest weight I can get away with. It works.
  15. How about bass hooked deep? I have actually caught bass with a hook in their throat. I would sat their chance of survival is pretty good. But I fish with alot of jigworms, and I don't like leaving that lead weight in them. Plus I'm cheap and I want my doggone jighead back. : I actually bought a set of wire cutting pliers, but they have not worked as intended. What is everybody's opinion on this?
  16. I love my Scorpion mg too, but I can still put my 1/4 oz jig another 15-20' further out on a spinning rod.
  17. 1/4 oz is right about the weight I start grabbing my spinning rods. I have a few reels that can throw lighter, but the casting distance suffers. Also, I'm more accurate with spinning gear for light weights, because I'm concentrating on the cast, not on preventing backlashes.
  18. I like my Scorpion MG, Without mods. However, I think a Chronarch mg handle would be great on it. Where do I find one?
  19. I hope I never feel your pain, Avid. My tackle is disarranged in simlar fashion. Maybe someday...
  20. If you are looking to do all three with the same rod/reel combo, I would use a MH rod, fast action tip, 7' with a good 6.0+:1 reel... The reel will be the most important part of this combo, IF you are going cheap (under 200). You need a reel that can handle light weights well, along with heavy weights. Tell us more, and we can tell you more.
  21. I still bring all my tackle with me. I use all of it every trip. A jonboat is very lightweight, and that tackle helps me to fight the wind. ;D As to what I throw in the water, 10% would be generous.
  22. Marbin farms is open to the public, it has been for around 15 years I guess. I fished there the day it opened when I was 16 years old, I think. I haven't fished there in a few years, but I am sure it is still good. Me and my buddy won a tourny there a few years back with one fish. 9lb 6oz. I loved lake margery and bennett, and the best fishing I ever had out there was on shepard, one of the smaller lakes with the handicap access. Lake Margery holds 2 of the biggest bass ever caught in GA. I bet it was the best fishing ever before it was opened up, you are a lucky guy to have fished there Thanks for the compliment on the fish! 8-) Marben Farms is now called Charlie Elliott PFA. When I first got serious about fishing I learned how to do it there. My PB LMB came from Lower Raliegh pond. They have a free campground, so anybody looking for a great weekend getawy in the Covington, GA area ought to put it high on their list. I have alot of memories there. Now I've moved to the Cartersville area, so it's a long drive. I hope to make it this spring.
  23. I Hate Wintertime. It's easier to get skunked when the water is cold than any other time of year. I finally caught my first fish this year after about 20-25 hours of fishing time. The water here is in the low, low 50's. And it looks like they will be working ALOT of overtime from March through late April. 2nd year in a row I'll be workin' when the fish are biting. I might just have to find a new job. ;D I'm not entirely joking.
  24. Mustad megabite hooks, from 1/0 to 5/0, will cover everything you need.
  25. You find a wrong way to fish a lizard in the spring, post it here. I use them t-rig, c-rig, on a jighead, as a jig trailer, weightless, and intend to use one on a drop shot this spring. My fave colors run the gamut from GP to pumpkin chartreuse to junebug to watermelon to PB&J to black.
