  1. My fave color is watermelon seed. I throw them ALOT in prespawn and postspawn. When fishing spawning fish, I stick with bottom bouncers. The fluke is better high in the water column, though I bolleeve I may try them on a chatterbait head this year. :
  2. Pointer 78- Aurora black (PB Spot-over 5 lbs) Pointer 78- Ghost Minnow (catches fish on clody days) Pointer 78- Chartreuse shad (catches schoolers anytime) Staysee 90- Aurora Black (2nd best spot on hard lures-3-14)
  3. No, well, I hope he isn't. The blades are the key to the spinnerbait, and the skirt color is secondary. Willow leaf blades are designed for flash, and colorado blades are for vibration. Indiana blades are a great mix of the two. If the water is clear, lean towards the willows. Dirty water, move towards the colorados. Then adjust the weight to put the lure in the strike zone at the speed you want to run. Then get the skirt right. Just my best guess... I've never used a spinnerbait before.
  4. You're supposed to ORGANIZE this stuff!?!? :-[ No bull, last time I organized, I found a LC Sammy 85, Blueback Herring color. I have no idea where it came from. :-? If I ever get all this stuff organized, I will post the pics. Don't sit there waiting on it. ;D
  5. If they'll hit ANYTHING!!? I'd love to see that happen... I'd throw a big spook or a buzzer. Or a jig. These three produce better quality fish, IMO. OR, I'd throw a 15" swimbait, so I could catch the biggest fish in the lake.
  6. I can't vote on this, because I can't decide between Shimano and Quantum. :-[ :-/ ;D
  7. I say mono (P_Line CXX 20 or 25LB) for flippin wood, and braid (P-Line spectrex 50+ lb)for grass. That is because I cant detect a jig bite on braid as easy as I can on mono, esp. around laydowns.
  8. I would lose it. Personally, I change line at least every couple of months, even if I haven't been fishing alot. Line on reels gets stiff and weak, causing your casts to be shorter and less accurate, as well as the risk of losing the trophy that has already been pointed out.
  9. IMO, use flourocarbon, and use a size or two smaller than your main line(where I prefer braid). My personal setup is 20 or 25 lb braid mainline, with a flouro leader from 12 to 17lb flouro leader. It varies depending on water clarity, cover, and size of fish expected.
  10. What he said. Usually I'll move to shad colors and worms when summer takes full effect.
  11. I like to throw a jig-n-pig on beds, some people swear by lizards, other people love tubes, but the important thing in bed fishing is the presentation. First, set up far enough away that you can barely see the fish. Usually that is a long pitching distance on clearer water. Second, throw your lure to the backside of the bed. Third, shake the lure gently through the bed. Watch the fish. If it is looking, sometimes a quick hop will trigger the bite, sometimes stopping the lure entirely will do the trick. If it starts to turn away, hop the lure aggressively. The fish will instantly turn back around and stare at your bait. Last, be patient. Some fish hit on the first cast, others hit after ten or fifteen casts. My PB largemouth hit a jig-n-pig on the third cast into the bed, on the drop. She weighed a little over 10 lbs. Another fish that spring, an 8+ fish(it was a good spring) hit after working the jig through the bed for about 45 minutes. These fish are very aggressive this time of year, so don't get frustrated when one refuses your lure the first few casts. Keep aggravating it, and it will hit sooner or later. Good Luck, hope I helped some.
  12. Thanx, everybody, I was looking for a site where I can watch it in action. I want one but I have to be convinced. ;) Thanks for your help.
  13. I would go with a graphite crankbait rod for what you are describing. You need a rod that has a soft tip for crankbait fishing. The kind you are describing needs a rod that is lighter and more sensitive than fiberglass rods. If you are fairly new to bass fishing, I would recomend a light action worm rod, so you could use it for multiple applications. But if you already have a good collection you are adding to, go with a graphite crankbait rod.
  14. Take a serious look at the Shimano Castaic. IMHO it is the best flippin reel on the market. It runs about 160, I think. I know that is more than you said you wanted to spend, but the reel stays in freespool until you click it shut. That makes it easier to thumb the spool, since you don't have to hold the switch down to keep it in freespool.
  15. These lures look and sound pretty interesting. Just wondering if anybody has them, likes or dislikes. Also is there any video of these things in action and where the best place to buy them is. A local store that carries swimbaits, reaction innovation lures, etc. doesn't have any around. I really want to know more before I spend Lucky Craft money on one(or two).
  16. Thanx, pipho.
  17. Sorry I didn't post back, I got busy the next few days after I wrote this and never checked back in on it. To answer your question, I use 10 lb. test when I'm fishing it in open water on spinning tackle. The spinning tackle allows longer casts of lightweight jigheads. When I fish it in laydowns I use baitcasting tackle and 12 lb test P-Line flouroclear. I have tried heavier line, but it is too stiff to cast the lightweight jigheads effectively IMO. Also I mostly fish it in clear water and I don't want the line to be any more visible than that. Also I don't use mono because I am fishing deeper water, and I don't want the line floating for obvious reasons. Thanks for your compliments and interest, all.
  18. Senkos do well on shaky heads, and fished like a fluke with a nail weight1/32-1/16 oz in the TAIL.
  19. I don't know for sure, but I was fishing senkos the year before they hit, the shaky rig same time, had a chatterbait that caught a few before I lost it and couldn't find any more... My guess is the hula grub will be the hot lure this year, because that has been my latest, greatest. But I can't be sure, because I still haven't caught a fish on a swimbait or a drip *****. So I'm going with the Weather Channel lure. The one that changes on your rod mid-cast. Youthought you threw a swimbait, it's a drop shot when you get it back to the boat. Throw that drop shot out there, reel up a chatterbait. Throw that chatterbait, reel in a senko. Lure subject to change without notice. But they're pretty, Raul. I'll sell you the first one for 1,000,000,000,000,000 ;D
  20. I'm cheap, but when I try something and it works, I will gladly spend the money to catch more fish. I wouldn't feel right if somebody else fishing aa tourny won on a lure I was too cheap to buy. Even if I wasn't into the tourny scene, I would still want every fish I could catch to hit every time I went, and once again, I'd rather spend 15, 20, or even 60$ on a lure than get skunked, only to find out some other guy got his thumbs tattered on a lure I thought about the other week and turned down because I didn't want to spend the money. And it has happened to me before.
  21. Tell us more. You ain't te only tackle junkie on this website. ;D
  22. I agree 100%. Other good ones to have are Pointers in chartreuse shad and aurora black, and deep divers or staysees when the water is cold. Just my 2 cins. :-?
  23. BAIT MONKEY WARNING: If you buy a LC Pointer78, you will buy another before long. Not convinced they are better? Buy one- just one- pointer 78. If the water you fish is lightly stained, buy chartreuse shad. If it is clear, buy either aurora black or MS american shad. FISH IT!!! You will own another before long. They are that good.
  24. G-MAN? It would be physically impossible to flip a jig while rolling on the boat deck, esp the way your sides would be hurting. ;D Clunn and Denny would be my 2nd and 3rd. Of course, given the chance I'd take any chance to learn from any of these guys, But KVD, Clunn, and Denny would top the list in that order.
