  1. I won't say I have alot of lures, but I was recently attempting to organize it all and found a LC Sammy that I DIDN"T EVEN KNOW I HAD. ;D It was an 85 MSMJ Herring color. I don't feel the need to eliminate tackle, I feel the need to buy more storage boxes.
  2. The CU200B5 is good for med-big cranks on my St Croix fiberglass, but this combo is WORTHLESS for anything less than 3/8 oz or shallow divers/topwaters. The rod lacks the sensitivty, and the combo doesn't cast well with lighter weights. Maybe it's just me, but I would say to consider what kind of cranking you will be doing the most before you decide what kind of rod/reel you will use.
  3. I have made a few posts to the same effect, Bream Master. It is one sweet looking reel for the money. If my bait monkey beats yours to the punch, I'll let you know via PM. Please do the same. I am thinking about replacing a Shimano Callisto (40$) with it.
  4. I love P-Line. Their flourocarbon is hard to beat. I have tried the new Vanish Transition, it's easy to see. That is all I have to say about it. It is moe sturdy than the original, but... I have yet to find a pure flouro I really liked. Also, I wouldn.t throw a topwater on it, for reasons mentioned above.
  5. Thanx, LBH, going to find them online right now. Just ordered a $70 sandle. Hope they are worth it.
  6. Thats what I was thinking when I read the topic. With sofft plastics, presntation is more important than color. That being said, read what I quoted. In cranks, throw shiny colors when the sun shines, natural whenthe water is clear, and bright or dark when its muddy. You are going for more of a reaction strike on faster moving lures. But I read somewhere that baitfish appear to be clearer under cloudy conditions and shinier when the sun shines, and this advise works for me. In dirty water, chartreuse is visible over any other color. Therefore, slow moving lures ought to have a touch of it, and reaction strike lures should have alot of it. That's two pennies from a one penny mind right there.
  7. Aurora Black Pointer 78. It produced the best fish of the day my last 3 trips of 06, including my PB spotted bass that weighed 5-6. Same color Staysee90 gave me my previous PB spot, at 3-14.
  8. Man, I hope you can afford better. The tackle you have listed will do great if you plan on throwing bobbers out there a couple of times a year. At the very least, go to a BPS during their spring fishing classic and spend 60-80 bucks on something there. DONT get an ugly stick for bassin. They are fiberglass, and you won't feel many of the bites you get on worms. Heck, if you wanna get serious about bassin', you'd better meet the bait monkey.
  9. What he said. The ultimate cure for blisters are callouses. I've been a construction worker for 11 years now, so I know that ain't no lie.
  10. I have a St Croix fiberglass that I love for deep crankin. I need a good shallow crank rod. I'm lookin at a G Loomis (can't remember the number) for that.
  11. I had one of the earliest models of KVD Quantums(it was before PT). I put that thing through HELL for 2-3 years. It was one of my first baitcasters, and I probably did 60-70% of my fishing with it for the first year and a half. I was bank fishing, never oiled or cleaned it, left it in the back of my truck on its rod, dropped it in the mud and washed it in the lake a few times, you name it, that reel worked well considering how I treated it. That being said, the PT Quantums are far better than the others. Also, you can get a cheap version of Shimano that is better. You will never see me recomend a Shakespeare product.BTW, every non-PT reel I ever had stripped its gears. ALL of them. Eventually.
  12. That guy amazes me. I've seen him put spinnerbaits in places I couldn't, and half his body is missing. Truly an inspirational individual.
  13. I believe you misspelled a word, LBH. I have found that most people will fall quickly after 2 hollow points from a 357mag. ;D Seriously, I signed it.
  14. What kind are they? I really need a super-comfy set of fishin' shoes. The way my jonboat is set up, I stand on my right foot and run the trolling motor with my left foot. I have a plywood deck, so I'm standing on the storage door. There have been days that I had to stop fishing for a minute just to regain feeling in my right foot.
  15. I have the same version as you, BassPonder, but the Lowrider series. I use it for the same techniques. There are other rods on my boat that I can't wait to get rid of, but that one will be there til it is no longer fishable.
  16. OK, thanks, guys. Is it necessary for say overnight? If I'm in a tounament situation, that's another thing on an already long list of preparing for the next day. Basically, what is an acceptable length of time to leave the washers compressed?
  17. A Quantum Accurist is a good reel, as well as the citica. If you get an Accurist, get PT. They have better gears in them than the ones that aren't PT. If you'd rather save your money, I saw a baitcaster at wally world that looked pretty good. It was a Pinnacle Inertia. 55$. 9 ball bearings, and like 7-8 oz. I don't own one(or any other pinnacles), but it looked like a really nice reel for the money. I may buy one myself just to see how good it is, if I can't find a guinea pig on here. ;D
  18. I just got a Scorpion MG. It is one sweet reel. I haven't had a real day on lthe lake since I got it, so I don't know how the handle will feel against the rest of my tackle. It is short, but I got used to it fairly quickly. However, I will probably change it out before long. Where would I get a Chronarch MG handle at and what would it run? I assume it will work on its twin brother. Oh, to answer the original ? here, This is my first Japanese reel. It won't be my last. I'm sure the revo is great, but I'm hooked on the Japanese stuff now. BRING ON THE BAIT MONKEY ;D
  19. I have heard this before. I have never done it. How important is it? What effect does it have on the drag to be left tight? :-/
  20. For the type of cranking you are describing, the 6.3:1 will do fine. Keep it, esp. if you are going to throw jerkbaits with it.
  21. Hey, Randall, great reading. I live in Cartersville. I have been to Varner once. Got skunked. Wanna hook up. PM me if you don't mind hooking up. You might want to turn me down, though, because I have seen High Votage's website and am thinkin about joining. :
  22. Welcome aboard, zack. I hope you find thi site as informative as I have. As to the spinnerbait thing, if you aren't comfortable throwing it on bc gear, use a spinning combo. I usually throw anything over 1/4 oz on baitcasting gear, less on spinning. There are exceptions to the rule, but spinnerbaits aren't in it. The best rule of thumb is to tie the lure on whtever you feel most comfortable throwing it on. As to your cousn missing bites on spinning gear, I would say to QUICKLY reel in all slack and set the hook in an upward motion. Point your rod at the fish when reeling slack, or more accurately reel down to the fish, then set the hook. This is similar to a hookset on a carolina rig. The only other thing I would add is to lighten up the hookset if the fish is closer to you. If you don't, you will break the line. Hope I could help.
  23. You might consider buying a Shimano Scorpion reel online. Or a Quantum Energy. I have both and like both.
  24. He sure has some sweet deals on em. I didn't see the rod I'm looking for on there, but I'll keep an eye out.
