  1. I have been a Mustad lover for years. Recently bought a few packs of Gamis. Have yet to try Owners' hooks. Here, monkey, monkey, monkey.
  2. 3/8 oz Lunker Lure rattleback jig in black/ blue, trailer may vary.
  3. Me too, I grabbed some to try and after reading these posts I am anxious to see how they work. Thanks, Ronnie Me Three.
  4. I start with jigs and Staysees in the very early prespawn, working my way shallower with Pointers and finally flukes as the water warms. I will still throw the jig or a critter bait if the jerks aren't working.
  5. Boy, you sure have a good list. : My two faves are the shaky head with a finesse worm, and a hula grub on a jighead. tubes are my best c-rig lure. Also, the LC Pointer 78 is a must-have in my boat.
  6. Ugly sticks are great catfishing rods. They are worthless for anything else IMO.
  7. 3/8 or 1/2 oz jig, black/blue. I have been expirimenting with hair jigs recently, too. Also, flukes have produced quite a few fish over 5 lbs for me. My PB spotted bass have all hit LC lures in aurora black.
  8. Green pumpkin zoom finesse worm, less than 20 cents apiece. Fished on a spot remover jighead, less than a buck. I average about a buck a fish with this combo.
  9. I'm not there with you yet, Raul. The most Ive ever spent on a lure was 60 bucks. I have a 3600 full of pointers, my go-to search bait. Several rod/reel combos worth over 350, all loaded on a 14' jonboat powered by a Minn Kota 55 lb thrust. ;D
  10. I agree about the no fish on the first cast thing. That dooms the day. Also, I usually stop at a waffle house and order a steak and eggs, even if it means I'll miss the sunrise on the lake.
  11. I love sight fishing! I have more fun catching a small bed fish than a good sized prespawner. I'll throw something big into the bed to make them mad, then follow with a smaller bait when they are hitting anything that moves.
  12. I don't own a revo of any sort, but I can tell you the basics of baitcasting. First, set the internal breakes. I am not sure if the adjustment for a revo is inside or if there is a switch on the outside, but that is the first adjustment you need to make. Second, set the cast control knob so the lure barely falls, and stops when it hits the ground or water. This knob is located on the reel under the handle. Third and most difficult, learn to cast smoothly. Try to cast the lure to a target instead of trying to send it to the highway. Those are the basics of baitcasting. Good luck.
  13. I pulled the trigger. Now I need a good c-rig or swimbait rod to put it on. The bait monkey is devious.
  14. I shoulda went to Varner instead of CE lake Barnett last weekend. The males were up, but the females never made it to the party. :'(
  15. I caught the same fish on 2 consecutive casts with a spinnerbait, several years ago. Unhooked him, threw him back, reeled him in again. His lip was torn on both sides then. This past weekend I got a bedding male halfway to the boat, lost him, and caught him two casts later.
  16. Try the " Zoom Super Fluke". That is the industry standard, Bass boy1. I usually work them as erratically as I can, varying from fast to slow to match the mood of the fish. If you want to, use a sinko- style lure for the job. I have caught a freakin' TON of fish using a senko like a fluke.
  17. I hate to tell you, but you aren't gonna get a rod sensitive enough for jigs and soft enough for crankbaits. If you are fishing mostly jigs and spinnerbaits, get a mh/mf rod. It will cast cranks, but it just won't be as good as a med action. Get the best you can afford, I'd go with 6'6" if you are trying for more accuracy and 7' if you are trying to launch it.
  18. I fish shaky head rigs alot, and I prefer a zoom finesse worm or trick worm, although I have been playing with some hand-pours. They don't work around snot grass, for the same reason other techniques don't work. The only effetive worm in snot grass is a senko style bait, IMO.
  19. Aurora black and ghost minnow. ...Chartreuse shad too. :-/
  20. In that price range, look at Falcon rods as well. The lowrider series is one of the best rods I've fished, dollar for dollar.
  21. I have some in 10-lb test. It casts very well, and it seems to be pretty tough. I will have to fish some rocks with it to make the final grade on it, but I'm impressed so far.
  22. I have the same rod with a Scorpion MG on it. It's my new favorite combo.
  23. SKINNY, however you want to take it. Crig or deadstick?
  24. May I recomend a Shimano Callisto? It costs 40 bucks, and the one I have has worked well enough for over a year. It ain't no high-end reel, but it will catch fish.
  25. I haven't fished many St Croix rods, but I'm not highly impressed with my Compre. It's OK, not fantastic. I'd get the St croix. Actually, I'd get a Falcon in the same price range, but that option wasn't on the list.
