  1. I'm not exactly missing fishing weather, it was a "brutal" 80 degrees today.
  2. Duly noted, haven't had the greatest experience with the shock series. I liked the rod in itself but both of mine fell and broke above the first guide
  3. I'm looking for a 6'6" medium power mf/f action spinning rod that I can buy for pretty much under $60. I've had two Berkley lightning rod shocks, and by some stroke of misery both broke about a foot above the first guide. I like the rods but don't know if I want to risk purchasing another one. I'm pairing this with a Pflueger President, size 30. I fish alost with casting gear and I mostly pondhop, so I don't need anything too crazy.
  4. Im going to Lake Tahoe in a few days, specifically the Nevada side southern shore. I know there are some bass, several species of trout and salmon in the lake but thats about it. What tackle should I bring, what do bass bite this time of year, and whats my best bet to catch some of the other fish? Thanks
  5. X2 I once caught around 10 bass in a space of 30 minutes on a white pond magic. The full size spinner baits are fairly good as well.
  6. I only have 3 rods either way, so I would go with a large assortment of lures to work with.
  7. It's been mid to high 80's most of the February which is just stupid. It's supposed to finally cool down this month
  8. move to the ol FL
  9. I've caught 6+ LMB out of a puddle an acre and a half that seemed devoid of all life. You would see the occasional stir from a turtle swimming off, but other than that, no activity. The only fish seem to be redbreast sunfish and LMB. Retention ponds are another thing in itself
  10. As another quick pointer, if you can scrap together $15 a month, LTB is great for getting all kinds of tackle. It ends up being way cheaper than walking into walmart of visiting TW.
  11. The rods I've bought look great. The veritas was brand new, tags attached. I also recently bought a Berkley lightning rod shock, and it had one little burn mark in the cork handle, besides that, great looking rod.
  12. So the half hour rule only applies to jet skis? That would make sense though Any recommendations for an anchor?
  13. I'll look into the first 5 suggestions and see what I can figure out. To answer the last few questions, no I do not smoke and don't plan on. As for local laws, Florida law states "Personal watercraft may not be operated from 1/2 hour after sunset to 1/2 hour before sunrise, even if navigation lights are used. Remember, both federal and state law requires the use of navigation lights from sunset to sunrise." I honestly don't plan on being out very late or very early either way, so I don't know if I have to worry about lights. Florida law also states "All vessels are required to carry an efficient sound-producing device, such as a whistle or horn, that is audible for at least one-half mile." I was thinking of going with an air horn. I'm not going to need a fishing license for another year, and as for transportation, I'm planning on using the roof rack of a 2013 Suburban.
  14. Where could I go to try on some of the PFDs that have been suggested?
  15. It's going to be a few years before I can say anything about this topic...... Though I am one of the rare sub-species of this generation that actually enjoys fishing and the outdoors.
  16. Welcome back!
  17. Does anyone have any suggestions for a PFD? Something relatively comfortable and under $100, preferably even less. Other members have suggested some nice looking stuff, but I'm not looking for a fancy $200 fishing life vest.
  18. I did have my eye on Turkey Lake but a quick phone call confirmed that you're only allowed to use their watercraft. I'm not even really looking at catching fish the first time I go out, just a trial run of the kayak. The spot you pointed out seems pretty good, it's about a half hours drive from where I live. Would you suggest just launching from the beach and fishing the shoreline?
  19. Haven't gotten to this thread in a few days. Does anyone in the area have any suggestions for any good lakes in the greater Orlando area to take out a kayak for the first time? Something with decent launching and where I can maybe catch some fish without going out too far. I was considering Lake Toho, but I've heard of large gators and dirtier water.
  20. I have absolutely 0 problems down here
  21. I've been getting skunked recently as well. Last two fish I caught were under 10 inches and that was during the recent cold spell. Catching fish is only half the experience for me, the other half is just getting out there and hearing the whiz of the reel. Still sucks not to catch fish though
  22. So I get the general idea that kayak modifications come with time and experience. I just need to take it out a few times and see what I might/might not want to add. There might a few things that are necessary, such as a first aid kit, extra water, handheld radio in a waterproof bag, and what else?
