The Ned Rig
I’m the same boat even though I don’t have one now as @ww2farmer. A lot have to do with bottom structure, depth and time. If shallow a lot of snag on bottom. I simply swim it back slow with a little bit of twist here and there. Downhill, I just simply drag it slow to make sure it stay on bottom. If flat with some rock here and there, just drag and shake or small pop.

Beetle spins
Maybe all you have are dinks. Maybe too fast or to slow? I found that when I target bass, faster is better, but for panfish I would go as slow as possible and paddle tail as a trailer. I like roadrunner better, think spinnerbait VS underspin. Underspin is smaller profile and more appealing to any size fish where as beetle spin is for those when aggressive feeding or bigger fish.

Vanford Vs. Stradic FL 2500
Waiting for more info on 1000/2000 size. I check YouTube almost everyday but haven’t seen any 1000/2000 or even 500 yet.

I thought you are getting the 2000 size?

Vanford Vs. Stradic FL 2500
Actually Legalis was the one that turn me into Daiwa for its smoothness compare to my old CI4. Now I have Ballistic FW, Kage LT, Tatula LT and Exceler 2000 LT as spare and for lower gear ratio. Price is not only thing that consider reel is good or not. I still love my old beat up Sahara 750 FB and just fish with it this evening after all the talk. Talking about oscillation, I don’t think it matter how fast rotor turn, the mainshaft will go up and down according to oscillation gear, this make slower oscillation gear move up/down at lower speed and the roller would spin around more turn than faster oscillation gear. I might be wrong though.

Newer reel don’t have that hole anymore. That reel feature is more than 10 years old. Normally water doesn’t get in mainshaft support bearing that easily no need to maintenance for it unless you completely tear down.

There is bearing that support pinion gear, normally I don’t oil that part unless I take it all apart. If you have needle type oil drop you might be able to do it.

You don’t oil the gear both pinion and main gear, use grease.

Converting spinning to casting rod cost?
I’m not a rod builder but a friend of mine do it as a hobby. The rod is 7’3 UL 2 pieces 0.5-7 grams lure weight, Majorcraft Croatage maberu series that I like it a lot for crappie fishing. I’m not sure if I can match the blank in US.

Vanford Vs. Stradic FL 2500
@Rusty_ShacklefordYeah I firm decided on 1000/2000 size Vanford base on MGL rotor and long stroke spool. If oscillation is not so slow at least long stroke spool would help a little in casting distance. Can you tell me how many rotations of roller to travel from top to bottom of the spool? Compare between my old Sahara 750FB and all my Daiwa LT 1000, 2000 and 2500 I have, that little reel with smaller and shorter spool cast just as good. The Sahara would take total of 7 rotations to travel up and down but all my Daiwas doesn’t matter what size only 5 rotation. @AJ.AJ.AJ.congrat on your new reel. It doesn’t matter FL or Vanford, you should be happy with either. Now that you mention Exceler LT, would you say FL is smoother and lower inertia that Exceler LT? I’m a shimano Fanboys but let myself loosen a little and got about 5 Daiwa LT reel from Exceler LT all the way to Ballistic FW LT. Every time I switch from Daiwa to old Stradic CI4, it feel like ?. I wanna get back to Shimano with either FL or Vanford.

This is a good example that not a lot mentioned. If you talking about hole on pinion gear for spool shaft. These two should be clean of oil/grease or any debris. Due to tight tolerance any oil residue will effect spinning rate of spool shaft. Another thing that should be cleaned as often if you fish in vegetation area is worm gear. A quick spray of cleaning and lubricant and a dap or two of heavy gear oil should work (I use grease). These should be easy to do for anyone that own a baitcaster reel without taking it apart. 1. A dap of oil on actual spool bearing as often but not too excessive. 2. Clean the inside hole of pinion gear and spool shaft 3. Clean and oil worm gear.

Vanford Vs. Stradic FL 2500
This is interesting to know. I’m really looking for a small spinning reel with slow Oscillation. I think slow oscillation really improve casting distance base on the line lay tighter on spool and will change direction less often. Nowadays a lot of spinning reels using X-wrap (shimano) Cross wrap Daiwa, with a lot faster oscillation.

Vanford Vs. Stradic FL 2500
I’m not sure where I get that FL also got MGL rotor. If not then Vanford all the way. Like @shimanoanglermentioned MGL rotor is better, smoother? and lower inertia at start up.
-
Vanford Vs. Stradic FL 2500
I am trying to confirm if in fact FL got also Mignumlite rotor.
-
Vanford Vs. Stradic FL 2500
They both got magnum lite rotor (MGL rotor), not spool. The spool material on spinning reel is not so important and should not effect casting distance but of course more expensive reel using lighter weight material just to save weight. They both got MMii KGN gears, Long Stroke spool. The main difference between both is body/frame which Vanford is CI4+ while FL is aluminum. Vanford is actually FL on steroid. If regular bass fishing either should be fine as long as it balance well with your rod. Finesse I would go with Vanford, light weight combo is better suit for finesse and easier on yourself.

Converting spinning to casting rod cost?
I found a good spinning rod and thought this would be such a perfect for baitcaster. I know some have converted their, how much would it cost to do such thing? The rod is not too expensive, I just like the power and action. Not sure if it worth to convert one to another.

Daiwa SS SV drag star
Hold on I think I give you the wrong parts this one for left hand side.
-
Daiwa SS SV drag star
You call daiwa directly and give them part number. I hate ordering parts from Daiwa because of this. Shimano is so easy you can order online with price shown. If you want Zaion with white lettering, get the one from old tat Sv. Here is part#. While you at it, might as well order another washer #87. I’ve heard it improve a little bit of drag. Again please don’t quote me, I have limited experience with Daiwa reels.
-
Daiwa SS SV drag star
I’m not sure if 2020 is a Zaion drag star but for sure old Tatula SV is Zaion. Different? Maybe just those white lettering and not cheap looking plastic that come with SS SV. I switched mine not because of that though, I fish one hand a lot and SS SV is the largest reel I have. I need new drag star to be able to spin handle with holding hand.
-
Daiwa SS SV drag star
Zaion drag star should work, I use the one from Air stream Custom (screw type) and if I remember correctly my old Alphas Air also come with screw type. If you gonna order parts in US, you might have to get Zaion drag star from old Tatula ct type r, but make sure to order nut and spring since those are not screw. I’m not sure about other models, those are the one I had.

Thank you BR members who bought my tackle
Thanks Tom for wonderful special hand pour worm. These things are so soft, I afraid to use it lol.

Best way to ship a rod
This ^^^^ lighter than cardboard tube but stronger. I cut cardboard to fit the opening hole and tape it real good. When you ship a rod, please tie the butt end and tape it, so the tip doesn’t get damage when moving around. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Advanced-Drainage-Systems-4-in-x-10-ft-Triplewall-Pipe-Solid-4550010/100135310 You should expect to add around 20 for shipping cost, tell USPS you want to ship 2nd day priority.

Wacky hooks
Plus one on Vmc Neko hook. I use 1/0 but after all my 25pks. is gone will switch to #1 instead. The second choice and for all other beside senko, I like trokar weedless wacky hook.
