  1. Nice ? what the lowest true weight can this reel cast?
  2. The shallow spool, so you don’t need to backing especially those who use super line. The LT 3000C being sold here in US have line capacity about the same as 1000D (deep spool) but same body with 2500 (C = compact body)
  3. My point is, with UL tackle you cannot control fish as good as proper gears, rod and line. I know it is workable, to land a fish with any line size when drag set properly and take the time. BUT, would it suitable?
  4. At one time I either hooked or snagged on a big fish on my UL setup 8lb braid to 4lb leader with about 50 yds mainline. The fish decided to swim out almost spool me. I tried to hang on for a few minutes yelling around to see if anyone got net. End up lock down drag and the fish broke off (bended hook) better than have a fish in the water with 50yds of line behind her. Another time, it is quite a good size bass, decide to swim toward shore with hanging tree. All I can do was look at the line peeled off to the the tree and lost the fish. This happened more than just a few times, doesn’t matter what size fish and I lost most of them this way.
  5. There should be rental available for you at the port. Call them up and find out if you don’t want to invest in Saltwater gear. Charter boat normally would be crowded, a lot of tangle especially for those use lighter gear. There gonna be a lot of boat flip, thinking flipping 3-10lb fish over 5-10’ boat. Do you plan to cast iron?
  6. Man I’m not sure if I should feel good about this, lol. Actually, that was my intention too, to have fellow bass fishermen come in and enjoy bass fishing especially those new ones, because I know how tough it is to catch bass in city park lakes in SoCal. I have had a few visit, but recent year they change the rule “to have home owner with guest at all time while fishing” making it a lot harder. Another thing is I change my interest a little, I target more of big bluegill and crappie with Ultralight gears these days and some how I lost track of where bass should be lol.
  7. What is your budget, for rod and reel? reel under 100, I’d suggest to take a look at Daiwa LT 1000 size series. I like Legalis LT 1000 and have Exceler 2000 LT coming from China. I believe these Daiwa LTs at 50-60 could be the next best bang for buck reel. If you can set your budget higher in 150-200 there are nothing else but Stradic FL/CI4+ 1000 and Tatula 2000 LT. For rod you might look into Light or ML rod 1/16-1/4or 3/8oz. I don’t like new ML model rod from a lot of manufacturers, the tip and too stiff plus those 1/2” thick blank even it rate at 1/16. The one that seems reasonable in price and performance for me is Shimano Sensilite Light 7’. I have Sensilite 6’6 UL but the rod seem to fish like Light good soft fast tip, enough power and quite sensitive.
  8. Yeah, I went out with my friend once and only caught two small bass by the dam around island. I think lake Perris or pudding stone are way better than DVL for kayak. Oh wait.... I think Canyon Lake is the best lol. come around 4 tomorrow we can fish a few hours for bass and switch to crappie later.
  9. Pay lake, no current? Depends on bait, if big chunk cut bait, I will do no weight on mono line or braid with mono leader. I don’t want my line lay flat on bottom (no FC) otherwise as small weight as possible Carolina rig, shrimp, hotdog and my favorite recipe cut pieces bacon in cool-aid. It I fish during the day, I would move my bait every 20-30mins (to clear the weight and bait from sinking in mud and searching for hungry catfish. In evening to night I would leave the bait sit longer.
  10. Same thing here, NOT IF but done just that. I’d rather use Curado 70 for everything from Ned rig, weightless worm all the way to 1oz topwater, oh and frog too. Why I have 4 of 70. OP asked why one don’t use DC, I have my reason and seem you have your.
  11. There are a lot of guys in Asian that skipping with shimano and Abu (Daiwa in Asian seem to be in third place on Popular side). Yes I learned skipping with Daiwa CT type R, but now if I have to I can skip with any of my reels which mostly shimano. As long as you are familiar with the reel’s braking profile, I see no need to spend money on SV reel just for benefit of skipping. Practice makes Perfect.
  12. I don’t mind buying Senko at 5 bucks. At least it is good for any new ppl to catch some bass. Me I use everything from dinger to BPS stick worm.
  13. I throw weightless all the time. What control do I miss, I feel like I have all the control I need. I’m trying to see the differences? First of all, if DC reel is for you, I’m glad you got the reel you like and enjoy using it. You asked if why we don’t use DC reel and these are why. Secondly, I’ve never said DC reel is bad. I commented many time that DC should benefit for those fishing in windy situation or those who just started using baitcaster reel. Third, I don’t own one, but I tried a few and changed a setup for a guy here @skekoamand he got about 40% in distance increase. Now to answer your question, weightless senko is not finesse at all, I’m talking Finesse worm or at least trick worm weightless type thing where DC might not work as good compare to others say Daiwa SV or Curado 70. Your DC reel only have 4 setting, the less is done by digitally to apply more brake when line start to fluffed. regulate shimano reel got 4 internal, 6 fine tune external , the less is depends on your educated thumb. I can adjust dial to my liking from no fluff at all to most fluff but still can control with my thumb tethering the line where as DC reel you are in the mercy of digital to kick in. I think (again just for me) I can switch from pitching to casting short to casting long distance easier and more accuracy. PS there is no such thing as one reel for every situation.
  14. I don’t mind it at all if it is free. I tell you why I don’t need it. first of all price, I don’t need to spend more money that cheaper one can do the same or even more. Size, dc reel is big and heavy for unnecessary. Regular reel have more control over DC in all suitation. Last I can’t imagine using DC reel for finesse or lure weight 1/4oz or below. Now I don’t say DC reel is bad just not want I need to spend money for. BUT you might see me using DC reel soon because I’m gathering information on SLX DC 70. I want to see how narrow spool perform in DC system. Narrower spool meaning less line traveling side to side, less resistance at line guide.
  15. It is gonna be tough getting whole fish with readable scale by yourself. I usually take two picture one with fish and another just scale. At angle downward you can read scale but fish not gonna look good.
  16. Have fun over there, I wish to fish in big bare lake for trout and crappie. Almost got a connection in Arrowhead Lake, too bad she moved out of Canyon Lake.
  17. The Kastking 24 rod, if you store with reel attached, you can fit only 6-7 on each side. I have the Kastking version (and I believe the EBay 20 dollars one is about the same) and DIY PVC version. Actually Kastking version is pretty stable, but I do have some problem with my ULtralight rod especially when attached with spinning reel.
  18. I think it might be better of with CB slider Crappie jig. The 1/16oz #1 hook is good for 2.5-4.5” worm.
  19. I believe the new SVS has less brake profile than old VBS to achieve casting distance, especially at the beginning and at the end. Yes it will apply stronger brake when spool spin faster but it drop off quick as well. That why new SVS is pitching machine and no need to adjust anything from casting to pitching. A lot of ppl try to get the most cast but that come with risk of bird nest. Learn how to set proper brake, and spool tension especially when you use braid is the key. Braid is lighter and easily come off spool crate too much fluff that need to feather and result in loosing distance or worst backlash. Hard whip with braid is call for disaster.
  20. Welcome Alex from “member here from Canyon Lake”. I used to fish Lake Elsinore like 10 years ago when my auntie owned a water front property. I have heard quite a bit of fishing report for Catfish, and panfish over there and of course crap and plenty of those but not bass. Your best bet is to drive around the lake stop and talk to those ppl who is fishing. You could start with something simple like green pumpkin Senko/Fat Ika or light Texas rig MMiii 6” roboworm. The water in Elsinore is pretty murky, visibility might be a foot or less. BTW, I wouldn’t eat any fish come out from Lake Elsinore. When is your schedule to be there? You can PM me for any question.
  21. It is really depends on how much you want it. You can not really value discontinued reel especially in mint condition and upgrade parts. For the reel you mentioned,I would pay as much as 150-175, the mint condition in these type reels are really premium, especially for those that collect. If you don’t wanna pay premium, you will have to wait with eye wild open and ready to jump in. Not long ago we have one sold here only 140? I was lucky saw one post on sale. I contacted the guy asked a few question and grab it right away. It is not premium mint condition but good enough. I don’t collect reel so condition is not super important.
  22. Most of shimano reel handle are interchangeable. Some handle you might need new nut cap. If you order from shimano, you get handle and knob. The scorpion DC is more like curado I with 84mm handle, I guess?. The K and SLX handle is 90mm. Here order #5643 and #5641 (nut cap) https://fishshop.shimano.com/collections/cu200k If you want 96mm handle, get this Chronarch XG handle, might not need new nut cap. https://tackletrap.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=898_792_795&products_id=11103
  23. Yeah the recommended with heat gun or boiling water not hair dryer, because regular hair dryer is not hot enough and you would need to heat it quite a long time which might damage internal.
  24. Look really nice man. Here are sample of professional done with clear coat around the edge and also balancer on the butt as well. A lot of my rod now got balancer and make the rod feel night and day. It is a lot nicer, feel batter and easier than try to balance the rod with reel weight.
  25. If you know how to set your reel right and choose proper lure and cast the right way, casting into wind shouldn’t be a big problem, you won’t get distance though. Set your reel, more spool tension to where is no loose coil when slight pull, set more brake, start from max and go down from there. Proper lure, you don’t want anything light and bulky. Underspin, lipless crank, chatterbait are good and pretty effective jig, Texas rig, fat Ika bottom contact are work but gonna be harder to feel the bite. Cast it right, try to cast it as low as possible, side arm cast is perfect, overhead but you will have to shoot it low not lob cast and sky high.
