  1. Agreed. You're already outfitted better than I am, but the $400 kayak I bought in February made 2016 the best bass fishing year I've had in nearly ten years.
  2. Not quite sure what I'm quoted on in that last post. But for Bass Turd's point a do agree. Romo is probably feeding Dak everything he can to keep the team winning. It's just what good players do. When the time comes Romo will compete for his job back, just like he should. I'd be disappointed if they gave it back to him at this point, but if he thinks he's the #1 QB on the team he should be out there fighting for the starting job.
  3. I lose bass on everything but EWG hooks. I use a 5/0 for largemouth with a 5" Senko. 3/0 for smallmouth w/ 4". Basic t-rig with the hook point just slightly buried is a staple for me no matter where I'm fishing.
  4. Fireline is probably the smallest test braided line you'll find for a spinning reel. I've never used it that small though. If you don't have heavy cover around, I'd spool up some 4-6lb Maxima UltraGreen and put your drag to good use personally.
  5. You never know, the guy was a #1 pick and coming off a of a bad shoulder injury. His first years were with an absolutely terrible offense, playing 6 games a year against the Seahawks, Cards and 49ers defenses. Also how many times has he torn his ACL(s)? Then with the Eagles it was at the end of the Chip Kelly experiment already failing. How he didn't end up blind in one eye with one leg starting for the Browns by now is mind boggling. You gotta pull for the guy, and so far he looks like he still has something left.
  6. Yeah, they really looked solid. But somehow still almost lost after dominating the game. First Charger game I've watched this year but I didn't expect them to look so good especially on defense.
  7. I had a nice one on tonight on a frog but it came off, dropped it in from the cattails and the fish smashed it instantly. Also had another completely miss it doing the same thing. I tried other things(spinnerbaits/lipless cranks/whopper plopper), no other bites. Got my first total skunk of the year. This is my first year ever fall fishing so no idea what I'm doing really. I tried weed edges, open water, and the usual frog spots in the thick stuff. I love topwater, so probably spend too much time on that. Last trip out I scored a 3lb4oz LM in the same exact spot(same frog too) I lost the one tonight though so it's tough to give it up! Logic is telling me they shouldn't be tight to the shore, but I'm still finding them there.
  8. If really going small, I'd use a spinning setup w/ 14lb Fireline rather than baitcasters with heavier braid.
  9. Why not bring a scale, I don't get it? I fish from a kayak, with the smallest tackle box Cabela's sells and still bring one. The fish in my avatar is 3lb6oz, selfie pic with the fish nearly touching my face. But still the camera is too close so it looks bigger. The OP's fish looks significantly larger, I'd be surprised if it wasn't a mid 4lb fish or better. But again, gotta have that scale!
  10. Agreed on the octane (don't run high octane unless manufacturer recommended) and also definitely the ethanol free gasoline. Especially for older motors. Higher octane gas is only important for high compression motors or forced induction where detonation is a concern. You use the high octane fuel so that you can push the limit higher. On any other motor it's just wasted money for less performance. BUT, some premiums or even mid-grades will actually state that they are ethanol free, which (especially if a top grade fuel like Chevron/Shell/Exxon etc) would be my choice.
  11. It's definitely been done before. Quick, anyone remember the Ravens QB when they won the SB in 2001? Most SB winners have a good or elite QB but in this era of QB play being down across the board it could happen again. Peyton Manning is gone, Eli is old and trending down. Brees' team sucks around him. Same with Rivers. Matt Ryan probably has the best chance of taking a loaded offensive team all the way this year. But those Vikings sure look stout, and Bradford is playing well. Brady and the Pat's look better than ever. Not sure what to make of Pittsburgh, Denver, Seattle, QB Eagles or GB yet. Dallas could also be a dark horse if they don't try to bring Glass Joe Romo back.
  12. Well that just worked the opposite as intended for me. Never heard of "that brand" and just spent ten minutes trying to figure out what he was talking about. Isn't there a thread on here with all of the banned/don't talk about stuff? I could swear that's how I found this site originally. I won't admit to what I was looking at back then though
  13. I've tried a few Senko colors, still haven't found one that I feel is "the one" yet. Blue/Black 4" netted my PB smallmouth at 3lb6oz this year. Green watermelon(plain no flake) landed a 3lb6oz largemouth. But I've also caught them on brown w/ black flake and orange pumpkin w/ gold flake colors. Nothing has out-shined any others enough to think I figured something out. Back in the day all we used were white Slug-Go's, I might have to see if those still work to get my dad off my back (and maybe off the golf course).
  14. My Old Town Vapor 10 is only ~45lbs, and after a long day of fishing I'm glad it's not 40lbs heavier than that. The Predator 13 is a NICE kayak though. I wouldn't expect to find any issues on one. Not sure how you could ever check a fish finder without being in the water though. If it's a concern I'd just ask to meet at a nearby lake to test it out.
  15. I grew up with Shimanos, wore a cheapo Sidestab rear drag model out until it literally fell apart into the water this year. I'm a lefty and love the trigger casting system, it fits me perfectly. So I recently bought a Spirex front drag, theoretically the best Shimano w/ casting trigger I could buy. It's a total POS. It feels like the bearings are made of concrete. My other spinning reel is a well used Pfluegar Trion and it is loads better than the new Spirex in every way. I missed the return window at Cabelas or I would have swapped it for a President.
  16. Apologies in advance. Just can't hardly believe this is real.
  17. At least two of those sure look like largemouth bass. In a creek though? Is it near a lake? Regardless, pretty neat to have that kind of fish diversity running through your property.
  18. I was out picking morel mushrooms in the woods once, totally silent out. All of a sudden something starts crashing out of a tree nearby and takes off through the woods. Had to have been a bear or cougar. I hightailed it back to the truck and was done for that day. I don't ever feel comfortable doing that without at least a group of 5 or so after that. You need to be making a lot of noise. Not me but my uncle was elk hunting several years ago, he walked through fresh snow up a ridge just before daylight and sat for awhile. Later that morning he walked back down and there were cougar tracks in his boot prints going UP the ridge. No idea how close it ever really was, but he said that was about the most eerie thing he'd ever experienced.
  19. Ouch. I never really liked Ferguson, but that was the worst QB play I've probably ever seen(and I personally attended a game that featured Jimmy Clausen and Matt Hasselbeck). Honestly league wide the quality at QB is not great right now. I'm in a fantasy league that starts two QB's, it's ugly! Keenum, Gabbert, Fitzpatrick, Hoyer, Mariota all owned. What NFL team feels good about any of those guys? I'd probably throw Osweiler in there too, a couple more games like he's been playing and he's going to be the next one to flame out as a bust.
  20. Gabbert is a lower tier passer, but you've got a three team reject receiver leading your WR corps and a defense that is getting continuously blown out. They're asking too much from a game manager QB in Santa Clara.
  21. That's some incredible customer service there. I've broken a rod or two due to my negligence, just threw it away and moved on. Regardless of whether I would attempt a claim or not, this makes me want to take a look at Fenwick in the future.
  22. Last fall I got a coworker to try out fishing without powerbait for his first time ever. There's a local trout lake with some really nice rainbows and browns, but it's single barbless hooks only and no bait. I have some spoons/flies that I use for that sort of thing, and showed him what they look like. He shows up with these giant sinkers, had to have been 1/2oz or more, attached to a 1-2' leader and some sort of tiny pink plastic spider looking thing. But hey it has one hook and he's filed off the barb so what the heck. He drags it on the bottom and loses his entire setup a bunch of times, but I'll be danged if he doesn't limit out (two trout limit here). I only caught and released one that day. So what do I know! One that comes to mind personally was when I discovered smallmouth fishing on the local river here, again the same single/barbless restriction (to protect the native trout). I was trying to come up with a better hook setup than a siwash on small Rapala/Rebel cranks to target the smallies since they kept spitting them, and one night a few too many adult beverages resulted in reinventing the wheel, lug nuts and hub assembly. I had tied on a stout piece of mono between the two hook eyes, with a barbless circle hook riding point forward on the ~2" piece of line. Part of me still thinks it could have worked, but that part is most likely an idiot and I never actually tried it.
  23. My best kayak fishing has come when sitting on top of a patch of dollar pads, basically beaching myself to defeat the wind. The pedal systems wouldn't allow that. And out on open water when hooked into a big fish I've just let them pull me around, slamming into the rocks/shore, etc, not sure I would have the wherewithal to keep that from happening even if I had the option though.
  24. Maybe change it up and try a mouse instead of a frog. Definitely target the slop, but most notably any cuts, holes in it. I like to cast past the spot I've picked out, make as much noise as possible dragging/hopping it through the weeds until it's just at the edge, then ease it in like the mouse was nervous to swim across. Because he knows a hungry bass wants to eat him! And when they do, you'll be hooked for life.
  25. I believe they are these ones, made by Owner. https://smile.amazon.com/Owner-4102-159-Single-Replacement-Hook/dp/B00T0S6QVK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473746588&sr=8-1&keywords=owner+treble+replacement+hook
