  1. does the curado K have the same latch mechanism as the I model? On the I model, there is an audible 'click' sound when you move the button forwards to close it. If the side plate is not on properly (because the spool tension or drag set too high and its not allowing clearance) it might not be latching properly. is this what happened?
  2. I didn't know any baitcasters had drag clickers. in the late 90s when I first got serious the shimanos I was using (and dad's daiwa) didn't have clickers. nowdays most don't either. how common is a drag clicker on a baitcaster?
  3. Baitcasting. I love my e6x 7'6 MBR 903c and curado 200i combo. so I use it most often. This rod has made me fall in love with long rods.
  4. G. Loomis GL3s. Especially the SJR700 model. a gem of a rod. with a mag light power and extra fast taper.
  5. Sufix Siege is the best all around mono i have used. it is abrasion resistant and strong (like Big Game and XT) but much more limp. I even use it on spinning gear in 4, 6 and 10 pound tests. it casts great. on my curado 200i I use 12 pound. its amazing. It may not cast as far as some of the 'super limp' monos like XL but you much more strength and abrasion resistance while still being limp/castable enough. its the overall best I have found so far, i used to use XL all the time but I started having strength and durability issues. It was always nice and limp though.
  6. i have to question the need for these digital controlled casting reels. once you learn to use a baitcaster you never backlash anyway. I have the Curado 200i and it casts amazing with no backlash. the question is, how much is it?
  7. I love Sufix Siege 12 pound test smoke green colour. love the stuff. I even use it to tie up my wif...er never mind.
  8. I have a loomis E6X MBR 903c which is a 7'6 MH fast action rod that I friggin love. I use it for everything lately.
  9. i use 12 pound test Sufix Siege on my curado 200i and love it. its as strong and abrasion resistant as Big Game but its much more limp. its amazing how far i can cast with it.
  10. has anyone fished one yet? I played with a few in the store, some differences between the older models: 1. smaller guides 2. blank is buffed has a bit of a shiney look to it, but not glossed. 3. seems a little more crisp but I have not fished with one. Drop shot models now have hook keepers which was sorely missed in the older versions.
  11. I have two E6X rods and love them. its supposed to be like the Avid blanks which are both a step up from the mojo bass line. A few things I really like about the E6X is how they are made: 1. spinning rods have up locking (not down locking) reel seats so you are not holding the lock nut which drives me crazy. 2. Baitcasting rods have the foregrip separate from the lock nut. I hate casting rods that have the foregrip and lock nut combined ( ie you twist the foregrip to secure your reel). again, I hate holding the locking mechanisms when I fish. minor things to some, but they happened to be designed the way I like spinning and casting rods to be done.
  12. The wiffle spool in theory should cast lighter lures better, but im not sure if the Calcutta series is good for casting lighter lures in general (old school baitcasters tend to not cast light stuff very well). how light are you trying to throw?
  13. Hi everyone, I am looking at a travel tube for my rods on car trips. I have a 7'1 spinning rod and a 7'6 baitcasting rod, both 1 piece. in the past I have just bundled the rods with pipecleaners and placed them on top (last) of my stuff for roadtrips. However, they are not protected and I would like to get a tube for protection in case something shifts on top of them etc. I was looking at the Plano guide series case which can go to 8.5 feet: http://www.planomolding.com/fishing/series/guide-series/guide-series-adjustable-rod-tube-large Does anyone have any experience with this case? Thanks for any help you can give. -Hulkster
  14. you would gain weight reduction because of the porting of the frame and better casting because of the wiffle spool. not sure if the bearings are the same. I have researched the GTB because I almost bought one but ended up buying a curado I instead. but I have always wanted a shiny gold Calcutta
  15. I asked this question to Bantam1 who is the shimano rep on the shimano support forum over on tackletour and i was informed that it was not necessary at all. so I stopped putting a wrap of plumbers tape around the spool of my curado 200i.
  16. yeah its orange like the pro select was but i tried it and its so stiff now. the other line was like sufix siege: perfect blend of limpness and toughness.
  17. I used to be a die hard Trilene (mainly XL) user but in the last few years I was getting problems with XL's durability and strength (always handles well though). so I started looking for an alternative and found Sufix Siege. One mono i used to love was Trilene Premium Strength/Pro Select. it was an orange coloured mono that Berkely used to make in the late 90s and early 2000s and it was awesome. Why this discontinued it i'll never know lol
  18. Sufix siege for me as well. I use 12 pound on baitcasting and 10 pound on spinning gear. its tough, strong and limp. and the smoke green colour is awesome.
  19. not sure then? let us know if you hear it again.
  20. most likely the epoxy from the first guide is cracked a bit where it meets the rod. I had an E6X rod do this on the first spinning guide so when I cast it made a 'click' every time. I exchanged it for another. I have a St. Croix Avid that does this as well. it won't affect the operation of the rod, the flexcoat does crack a bit over time as the rod is used and flexed. however, on a rod this pricey you might want to exchange it for another. as a test press on the guide that you think is doing it, you should be able to recreate the flex and recreate the sound if that is what is doing it. most likely it is.
  21. one thing to keep in mind is that Fuji aluminum oxide guides are used on some fairly good rods like the G. Loomis E6X and the St. Croix Avid X (normal avids use alconite guides) and these rods are quite popular on the forum and I have never heard of any issues with grooving.
  22. I think line slap against the guides really limits spinning gear vs baitcasting gear. I think that's why you can cast a lot farther with properly setup casting gear.
  23. I find I can cast farther with a baitcaster all else being equal, assuming the lure is on the heavier side. Esp if I am fishing down wind with the brakes eased off.
  24. i have not used it but held it in the store. the only problem I find with the glass blanks, esp one this long, is it is quite a heavy rod IMO
