  1. I am not talking about a manufacturers defect I am speaking of breaking the rod by doing something dumb, I am accident prone. I will not return the rod for replacement if it was my fault.
  2. My biggest problem with a $400 rod is durability. If my $50 rod snaps on a submerged branch hook-set or getting caught in a door I am going to cuss up a storm and then go out and buy a new one. If my $400 rod snaps the same way I am going to snap mentally and get real depressed at the waste of money. then I have to save up enough disposable income to buy another. Chances are once I save up about $60 towards the $400 I am going to buy a Fenwick Eagle.
  3. Great year, here's to an even better 2018!
  4. I like a lot of YouTube channels, some of my favorites that people here would probably like: Scott Martin Lake Fork Guy Catfish and Carp Ike Live And some most would despise: Onerod onereel fishing Extreme Philly Fishing Jon B Alex Peric Lunkers TV Realistic Fishing First State Fishing I find most of these videos better than the stuff that passes for entertainment these days on cable.
  5. If I am not fishing I am watching programs with fishing related content. Things like Wicked Tuna but also YouTubers. Just like anything else they have their place.
  6. My choice would be the Denali AttaX Series 7' Medium Casting Rod. Runs about $119 I love the Winn Grips and the action on these rods.
  7. I rented an Old Town Vapor while on vacation. I was also able to rent a Pelican Trailblazer. There is a lake in my area where you can rent kayaks by the hour. I found this was the best way to get some real time usage out of a kayak to see if you would like to purchase it.
  8. My fishing resolution is to fish more crankbaits and do some cut bait catfishing. Non-fishing resolution is to start using the "Platinum Rule" when dealing with people. Golden Rule = treat others like you would want to be treated, Platinum Rule = treat others like they want to be treated because they might not like the way you treat yourself.
  9. Woke up this morning to -11 degrees It's 10 am here and with a bright sun shining it is still -2 degrees.
  10. I would go with the Trion as well. I have a rear drag model with a wooden knob that is over 7 years old. It is one solid reel, a true workhorse.
  11. You wife is wise and right. Let it go.
  12. I hop it along the bottom very slowly. I even dead stick it at times. I get a lot of fish that way.
  13. We have a lot of that here in my area. Most 5lb Largemouth Bass claims are really 2-3lbs. at best.
  14. I had the Spartacus and really liked it. I broke mine when taking it apart to clean and lube the internals. Up until then it was pretty solid. The only complaint I had was a sticky thumb bar that would engage on a hard cast. It has the dual braking system which makes it VERY hard to backlash if set correctly. You will feel the body flex if dragging fish out of cover, I know I did. As far as baitcasters go Kastking has the following in price lowest to highest: Royale Legend/White Max Spartacus/Spartacus Plus Stealth Assassin Speed Demon Spartacus Maximus You have to get to the Stealth price level and above before the true quality for price appears IMO. For a reel to be in the price range of the Royale Legend and Spartacus they had to cut corners somewhere. I am sure those corners will show up sooner rather than later.
  15. Sorry for the late response. Congrats on the new job. I wish you and yours the best for the holidays.
  16. Congrats, that's a nice Bass!
  17. Smallmouth Bass and Pickerel love the WP 90 That's all I seem to catch on mine and I am not complaining.
  18. Edgecomb pond in Bolton Landing NY. It’s near Lake George.
  19. Let's be careful out there guys! This weekend we had a ice fisherman die after falling through the ice in a pond here in Upstate NY. He spent 90 minutes underwater before he could be recovered. His friend was treated for hypothermia after a failed rescue attempt. It's not worth your life. Please wait for safe ice and don't venture to far.
  20. I have 2 Sharky II's a 1500 size and a 3000 size. I use the 1500 for finesse fishing. I load it with 8 lb Kastking Flurokote line for dropshotting and Ned Rigs. I have it on a medium light Lew's Carbon Fire rod and have caught 3 lb Catfish and Bass on it with no worries. The 2000 size would also work for finesse fishing. I use the 3000 size for Senko's, tubes and Big TRD Ned Rigs. These reels are fantastic for the price, especially if you catch them on a 20% off sale. A rock solid workhorse reel IMO
  21. If you build it, they will come. An indoor pond for fishing would be a hit in the northern states in the winter.
  22. That last sentence is very true. I bought Kastking Superpower braid on EBay for $3 for 150 yards on sale. They had a buy 2 get a third spool free deal as well and free shipping. My last order was upgraded and the free spool was 300 yards instead of 150. 600 yards of braided line for $7 and change made me a very happy man. My advice is to shop around and take advantage of sales when you can.
  23. I like Berkley Trilene XT 8lb on spinning gear and 12lb on Baitcasters. I also use Kastking Superpower braid 30lb and Kastking Fluorokote 8-12lb depending on the lures I am fishing or cover I am fishing in. Those 3 lines are what I use the most when river fishing
