  1. I think gas mileage and the size of the outboard should be something that you concider. I would look for a direct injection motor like an Evinrude ETEC, Mercury Optimax or Yamaha HDMI. Direct injection two stroke outboards use a fraction of the fuel of a carburated or fuel injected two stroke. I wouldn't buy a new or used boat unless it had a direct injected outboard.
  2. My dream fishing trip would be to spend a week fishing Stick Marsh in March. Wait a minute.....I am doing that this year George is booked until the 17th of the week I will be there.....just trying to decide if I want to try out his partner.
  3. I have used Google Earth for a few years. We use it to plan out our tournaments. We pick locations and measure distances to figure out if we can make it to a spot and back in time. I have used it extensively to research lakes that I plan to fish in Florida each year. I was looking at Stick Marsh / Farm 13 this week.
  4. My wife bought the kids a Creepy Crawlers Kit for Christmas. I thought it was a great idea because I figured that I might be able to make some plastic baits with it I wonder if anyone sells the cast aluminum plates that fit in the oven?
  5. I will go to the show in Richmond. I do it every year. I don't buy much but I do a lot of looking. I will probably go to the show in Fredericksburg as well. My oldest son gets to compete in the casting kids contest for the first time this year. I hope he does well!
  6. Sam, It is a private pond behind my office building in the back corner of an office park. The landlord only lets tenants fish it. They run off anybody else that tries to fish it. I got an Rick Clunn baitcasting reel and a MH Extreme rod! My injury is actually a torn plantar fascia. It is the ligament that connects the heel of the foot to the ball of the foot. I wonder if the podiatrist will finally fix it now that I can't walk on it at all. I hope you got some good presents too!
  7. I fished a pond behind my office in Fredericksburg for an hour around noon today. I got my first bite on a white chatterbait with a super fluke jr trailer (smokin shad). I cast the bait out. I would pop it of the bottom and let it drop. Once it hit the bottom I would let it sit for 10 seconds. I didn't get a hook in that fish > A little while later I got another bite and caught a 2 lb largemouth The fish was pale as a ghost. It was nice to catch a fish in December! Later in the day I sprained my foot, went to the emergency room and will not be fishing for a while
  8. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! Thank you for giving us a place to share our war stories, lies and learn a few things too!
  9. The solar panel provides 12V at 1.25W. The math is Watts = Volts x Amps. So this panel could provide about .104 Amps. If you had a 30 Amp / Hour battery it would take 288 hours to charge the battery. Concidering you only get about 4 hours of direct sun on a solar panel most days it would only take 72 days to charge a 30 Amp /Hour battery. If you could use it on a 100 Amp / Hour battery it would take only 240 days to charge it.
  10. OH NO...Here we go again George is correct. Only you can decide which one is the best. I will mention one thing that I have noticed is that a Dual console doesn't allow you to strap down long rods on the deck. The console gets in the way. The other thing that is really important is gas mileage. You probably want to get a direct injection motor like an Optimax, Yamaha HDMI or Evinrude ETEC. Also read what the break in recommendations are for each outboard. Triton, Ranger and Stratos all have excellent boats in this price range. I am sure that you will be happy with your choice.
  11. I use Tourney Special Rods, Extreme Reels and Pline Flourocarbon. I get more vibration from Tungsten than lead which gives me a better idea of what my lure is touching. I use tungsten weights for T-Rig and C-Rig. I am convinced that it is the right choice for me.
  12. I caught a lot of fish this year on the Horny toad and the Ribbit . The zoom bait hook is acceptable but the 5/0 Owner hook with the bait keeper corkscrew on it is hands down the best hook. A 5 pack costs $4.99 but they are sharper than anything else out there. They either cost the same or less than the Zoom hook. I clicked on other because want the corkscrew on my hooks.
  13. Tpayneful replied to Glenn's topic in Everything Else
The fixes are great!!!! Thank you GLENN!
  14. Thanks Glenn! I can back to the main thread now!
  15. Last year I cut my shaft on my power drive so that the center of the prop is 12 - 18 inches in the water. Now I don't have to cast around a big trolling motor head.
  16. I noticed that the "GO" button is missing on the link box at the bottom that says >> General Bass Fishing. I used to click on that to get back to the main forum page.
  17. michbass...The last page sayes that they will mail something with reimbursement options for people that have a subscription past the Nov/Dec last issue. I think I have one month left. What are they going to give me....a dollar back?!? Good luck getting your money back.
  18. With the Power Drive, you cannot zip tie it to the shaft like a normal trolling motor. You can zip tie it at the bottom but you have to leave a big loop of cable out for the motor to be able to turn. I know one guy that ran the cable down the shaft and popped it out at the top of the housing. He used JB weld to fill in the hole around the cable. It has worked for a couple years with out leaking.
  19. I received the last issue of Gary Yamamoto's "My Line" this week. They are not printing any more magazines. They are going online from now on.
  20. My partner owned a 17.5 G3 with a 50HP motor. It was a really nice boat. The only down side was the 50HP. Getting one with the 70HP makes it a great boat! Previously my partner had a Lowe 16' and a Tracker 16' and the G3 is wider, has more storage space, is much more stable when you are standing in it and has a better ride.
  21. Lake Curtis looks like a bass meca but it very difficult to fish. I wasted a lot of time there many years ago.
  22. I have fished with 15lb P-line Fluorocarbon and liked it so much that I spooled up another reel with it. Baitcaster that is. I will try the fluorocarbon experiment on spinning reels next year.
  23. I can't believe that nobody made a comment about the bass in the YouTube video. His confinement in the tiny aquarium caused him to atack that poor mouse that would usually be his friend
  24. I installed the Lowes carpet this year and am happy with it. I used the outdoor carpet adhesive for the deck and contact cement on the places that I had to wrap the carpet like doors.
  25. You drive 12 hours overnight to get to your Lake Front vacation rental on Lake Wier in Florida and instead of sleeping, you drop the boat in and fish for 8 hours!
