  1. Here is a link with details of the rebate: http://www.myatltv.com/news/article_news.aspx?storyid=111181 "The rebate is a credit against your 2008 tax bill, but it will be based on your 2007 tax return." A tax credit is straight dollars given back to a tax payer. Such as the "child tax credit" which gives me back $1000 per child. Dictionary.com defines it as: tax credit noun a direct reduction in tax liability (not dependent on the taxpayer's tax bracket) All these fancy words mean FREE money. I was wrong. You don't have to pay taxes on it. This is identical to the last two rebate checks that I have received in the last 7 years.
  2. I received a resume that had a cover page that was hand written, the resume had a smudged fingerprint on it and their were corrections to the resume in ink. Acronyms STINK! Try working with a federal or state government for a while and you will find that they only TALK in acronyms. RFQ, DCAA, FAR, GSA, UHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Our memories seem to be very short. There have been two previous tax rebate checks sent out since President Bush was first elected. One as part of his initial tax reduction proposal and a second based on 9/11. At neither time did it take away from the next years tax return. We do have to pay money on free money but that is about it. This tax rebate check is exactly the same as the previous two.
  4. Wow. Where are all the Toyota guys? I guess they all fainted over the fact that an American vehicle could last that long!
  5. Wayne, Thank you for the information on the casting contest ages! We will be there on the 1st or 2nd. Mrs. Matstone, It was great meeting you and your husband! I really appreciated all of the attetion that you paid to my son! I have a five year old that melts all the girls hearts too. Maybe you will get to meet him next year. He caught his first largemouth last fall but isn't hooked quite yet. He might catch the full bug this year.
  6. Bill Dance recommended these clip on polarized glasses that clip on your prescription glasses on his TV show about 18 years ago. They are the only ones I use and I buy everything that he suggests on his show! I just don't know why I don't catch as many fish or as many big fish as he does on his show
  7. If you are flying I would suggest that you read the rules regarding oversized luggage on the airlines website. There are size limits and you are supposed to pay extra for long items. I traveled Southwest and was supposed to pay a $50 fee each way. I did not mention it and they didn't ask for it. But I did expect to pay the fee. I kept the entire rod holder to the limit of 80" which ment that I couldn't take any 7' rods. I would not recommend a PVC tube for airline travel because airline approved rod cases are available for reasonable dollars. Airline approved rod cases only cost $45. Some of these guys have a lot of experience traveling with rods, maybe they can relate their travel experiences as well.
  8. Thanks Wayne! I noticed that the OCHS show next month is going to have a BASS afiliated casting contest. What is their minimum age?
  9. Wade Phillips was a disaster in Buffalo and was 13-3 with the Cowboys. Vince Lombardi would have a bad record coaching in Buffalo! Retread coaches who have failed in their first coaching stint have won a few Super Bowls lately. Tom Coughlin, Bill Belichick, Tony Dungy and Jon Gruden all won the Super Bowl after getting fired. Gregg Williams is a fiery coach that Redskins fans respected and was wanted by most. If Dan Snyder wanted consistancy, he would have hired Gregg Williams.
  10. Did I miss Valentine's Day? Is it the 14th already? Guys get gifts? What planet are you on? ;D
  11. I hope I get one day like that when I get down there next month. I am going to try Stick Marsh for a week. Congratulations Steve P and Avid!
  12. I bet ONE MILLION DOLLARS that the dealer installed that plug. Cut it off and install whatever connector or terminals that you desire.
  13. Skip, No problem. Glad I could offer an answer that helps. As a new fisherman I would do two things. Click on the Fishing Articles section and read the beginner articles. You can learn a lot in that section. One other thing you can do is search on a topic before you post. You might find what you are looking for there as well. Common questions and answers are posted at the top of a section like "How to fish a Senko", "How to fish a Carolina Rig" or "How to adjust a baitcast reel". Enjoy the board, post questions anytime and have fun. Also.....WELCOME to the BOARD!!!!
  14. If barometric preasure changes did not exist we fisherman would have to make something else up to explain why we don't catch fish sometimes ;D Being new to the sport, take the advice of Kevin VanDam and go fishing whenever you have the chance. I have a weather station that tracks barometric pressure for the last 12 hours and I do look at it before I go out but it would not stop me from going. I use the information to get an idea of how active the fish will be. Days of constant pressure usually results in consistant fishing. Fish usually go on an eating binge when the barometric pressure drops suddenly at the beginning of a storm front. The fishing is usually more difficult after a front because the fish are stuffed and they are adjusting to the pressure change. I have read that the fish will settle on the bottom or lean up against something until they become adjusted to the pressure change. I would suggest going to the Fishing Articles section and reading the beginner articles. I almost forgot......WELCOME to the board!!!!!
  15. My goals for 2008 1 Get back to using search baits more because I have gotten away from Jerkbaits and Spinnerbaits 2 Learn to use a swimbait 3 Win my weekly lake tournament once 4 Catch my personal best 5 Catch a citation
  16. Skip, you have asked a real loaded question. The line manufacturers put three things on the package that are important. Line type (mono, fluoro, or braid), pound test (breaking point of the line) and diameter. Knowing the pound test and diameter you are able to compare lines from different manufacturers and keep them honest. The breaking point of the line is not always a direct reflection of the pound test on the box. The breaking point will be diferent depending on if it is wet, dry, how the knot was tied and whether the line has been damaged by the environment (rocks, weeds and brush). If you plan on catching 2-3 pound fish (I never size my line on the fish but the environment) you probably need to use 6lb or 8lb on a spinning rod. I would suggest 10lb or higher on a baitcaster because I find that I can cast thicker lines better. Yes you can catch a 4lb fish on a 2lb line with the drag set properly in open water. If you have that same fight in an environment with vegetation, rocks or brush your chances of landing the fish go down. If you catch a 4lb fish on a 2lb line with no drag it will probably break off but there is a slight chance that you will land the fish in open water. If you catch a 2lb fish on 2lb line there is a good chance that you will land the fish in open water. The problem with all of these scenarios is that Largemouth Bass (I will not speak about smallmouth because I don't have much experience with them) live in areas that are full of obstructions. They like to live in vegetation, rocks, logs, brush and just about any other environment that damages fishing line. Pick the lowest visible line for the hazards that you will face. Downsize your line in clear water open environments and upsize your line in stained vegetation or brush filled environments. Being new I hope this helps. Picking line is really confusing to many people including some of us that have been fishing for many years.
  17. I had a similar thing happen to me when I had a tiger fish POUND my spinnerbait in Africa. But I know why it happened. The strike of the fish was so violent that my thumb acidentally touched the thumb bar releasing the spool for a half a second. This caused an immediate birdsnest.
  18. I have flown with a one year old from Washington to Las Vegas. We booked a redeye and he slept the whole way. Most people were scared to see a one year old on the flight but many complemented him when we got there. This year I flew with my 4 year old and 7 year old. I took a portable DVD player and two sets of headphones so they would not disturb anyone. I also brought a crayons and coloring books. They did really well when a one our flight experienced a two hour ground delay waiting on storms to blow through. Two hours in a plane on the tarmac is tough but the DVD player probably saved the day. I would make this one recomendation, DON'T fly Southwest if you have multiple kids from the ages 5 to 12. They don't have asigned seating so you have to get a spot in line and sit on the floor two hours before the flight takes off to improve the CHANCE that you will sit together. If you are lucky it is only one hour but it STINKS. Almost forgot one thing. When you are waiting on the plane buy a bottle of something to drink and maybe a snack. They kids will want something when nothing is usually available.
  19. Either of you guys want to buy season tickets? I will sell mine to you with only a $500 markup ;D I can't be positive about the way Daniel Snyder treats people. He fired just about everyone at Redskins park including secretaries and office workers. He fired a coach with 3 games to go in a season, fired another after one season. How many times do we have to see a press conference like the one that they had with Steven Davis saying that he will be a Redskin for life and shipped out of town the next year. Chris Samuels had that press conferene last year and I expect him to be gone in a year. How about the beatdown that Patrick Ramsey got under Spurriers offense's lack of protection and then the next year the guy is a bum. Gregg Williams was supposed to GET the job. Now Snyder has screwed him over too. Snyder said he wanted continuity but he is completely changing the offensive system with Zorn. This whole coach hiring process has ment that Joe Gibbs coming back has changed nothing. For the last 8 years I always said that Snyder paid the big bucks to buy the team and he could do what he wants with it but I don't have to support it with my money anymore. This gripe is not directed at you guys but at the idiot Dan Snyder and the stupid things that he has done. He has made Washington a laughingstock of the NFL.
  20. I have a game called Bass Landing by agetech which comes with a baitcaster style controller. It was made for playstation but works with PS2. I have not played the game in years but it is a neat concept and you have to cast right to be able to play the game. Here is a link to a controller on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Landing-Fishing-Controller-Playstation-Agetec/dp/B00130I73I
  21. Dan Snyder likes to surprise everyone but the result will probably be the same 8-8 next year. I always gave Dan Synder the bennifit of the doubt but NOT hiring Gregg Williams was the last straw with me. All the good of the end of last season is down the tubes. Good players and coaches will avoid Washington and the good players here will be trying to get off the Titanic. I am not getting over this fiasco any time soon.
  22. Wayne P, I understand that completely but it is THE SAME FLW group as last year! Should be the same rules! GRRRRRR.....
  23. I met Mrs. Matstone at the Fredericksburg Outdoor Expo. She was extremely nice and was working the Case Plastics booth. It was really nice of her to spend more than a few moments talking to my son and showing him all kinds of different plastic baits. She gave him quite a few freebies. Last year my son Andrew couldn't compete in the kids casting contest because the youngest age was 7 and he was 6. He spent the whole year looking forward to competing this year. When we got there they wouldn't let him compete because they CHANGED the rules. Now you have to be 8! Everyone talks the talk about getting young people interested in fishing but they don't seem to back it up with actions. If you are the person that changed the rule and you are reading this....I want you to know that YOU STINK!
  24. Using the hull as a ground is a safety hazzard. If a positive wire rubs against the hull (which is common) and the insulation is cut the wire will short out. A short to ground can cause sparks and fire which is something that you don't want when you are on the water. I would not do it.
  25. Mend-it sayes on the bottle that it contains acetone. You may be able to add a little acetone to the bottle to bring it back to normal. More than likely the acetone portion has evaporated. I wonder if straight acetone will weld two pieces of plastic together. : I think I will have to try this experiment at work next week where I have a can of acetone.
