  1. I showed the camo lingerie to my wife. She responded that she would like that with a camo comforter and sheets. That way I couldn't find her! ;D
  2. RobbyZ, The theory for using mono with crankbaits is that it will stretch when you set the hook ensuring that you don't rip the bait out of the fishes mouth. Of course as with everything it may change with more people switching to Fluorocarbon. I have ready that the people that switch to Fluoro on cranks make sure that they have a really limp rod to absorb the shock of setting the hook. P.S. I have also read line comparisons that state that Fluoro and Mono have the same amount of stretch. Fluorocarbon doesn't feel like it has the same stretch to me!
  3. The exact same thing happened to me last summer. I couldn't get any water into the livewell and it happened during a tournament. I could hear the pump running but nothing was going into the livewell. I finally figured it out. The blades in the pump had completely broken off. I spent $20 at Walmart for a new pump and it is as good as new! If you hear your pump it could still be the pump.
  4. The first time I was in Zambia we came upon an elephant that was crossing the road. My driver stopped the car right behind the elephant so I could take a picture. I swung out of the car window "Bo and Luke Duke" style to get a picture. I was sitting on the car window sill and using the roof of the car to steady my 35mm Minolta. A second later my driver yelled something in some African dialect that I couldn't understand and started to pull forward. I looked behind me to see what was the matter and was face to face with one GIANT African elephant! When you are that close you can see the whites of their eyes My driver got us out of the way just in time. It wasn't one elephant but a line of elephants. As far as the topic goes......I understand that some people give uninformed advice (probably me) at times but it is a free country and I like this place
  5. I built a deck extension and recarpeted my boat last year. I was impatient and bought my carpet from Lowes instead of ordering it from a marine dealer. After having it for a year I will say that I am happy with the choice and it has held up well. You do need to use outdoor carpet adhesive for the flat areas and use 3M contact cement for things like doors and hatches. The carpet adhesive doesn't dry fast enough and the carpet will pull away from the wrapped edges. I bought an 8' x 18' piece for my 15' boat. I think I only spent about $80 on carpet, adheasive and contact cement. It is a cheap upgrade.
  6. I bought a 6.4:1 last year and it turned out to be my favorite reel compared the the extremes and old quantums that I had. The only thing that I don't like about it is the spool isn't drilled. It is tiny and holds a lot of line but I only use about 50 yards of it. I bought a 7:1 this year to add to my collection. That is one of the best $40 deals that you can get. You made out well.
  7. I wanted to add that you don't want to stand behind an elephant at anytime becuase they walk in a line and you will get trampled Ask me how I know ;D
  8. I am about 1 out of maybe 3 people on this message board that actually like the Power Drive. If you have never had a foot controlled trolling motor before you might like it. If you are used to a normal cable drive trolling motor you will probably hate it. Advantages: Point the trolling motor in a direction and take your foot of the pad and it keeps going in that direction. I will tap it left or right to make minor adjustments. I don't have to be off balance on one foot all the time. Maximizer saves battery life. Infinite speed control. It has a slide bar to pick your speed. Sometimes on a motor with 5 speeds, 3 is too slow but 4 is too fast. Disadvantages Head doesn't move as fast or as accurately as a cable steer. Different style foot control This is a big one and usually a deal killer. No easy way to attach cable running to the depth finder transducer. To stow and deploy the entire length of the shaft is used. You can only attach the cable at the top and the bottom. You must keep a big loop of cable in between and watch that it doesn't get caught when you are using the trolling motor. The original foot control had reliability issues. I am going three years on the same one but they have redesigned the contol. If you are not totally geeked out on the power drive you should probably just get the Edge.
  9. I use an Extreme 370 bag and I have it pretty full. It weighs in at 23lbs. I have a few more 370 boxes that I swap in and out based on the day.
  10. I beg to differ. Mend-it is NOT a GLUE. If you pour it on your fingers and stick them together they will not be stuck together. Mend-it will evaporate. It actually catalyzes the plastic or in other words melts the plastic causing it to weld back together as it dries. The bond is soft not hard like a glue. They call it a glue strickly for marketing purposes so that someone can find it on a google search.
  11. I just picked up a bottle of Mend-It on ebay. It is a liquid worm welder. I have tried it once so far and I think it will work with a little practice.
  12. I have a 2GB Creative MuVo MP3 player. It cost $30. I upload radio shows to it and listen to them later. I think that the Ipods cost too much but my wallet really wants all of YOU to buy them. I bought Apple stock when it was $61 a share and make out really well when everyone buys all the Apple stuff that I don't have
  13. 5'8" / 175 need to lose 9lbs for the Government to stop classifying me as "overweight" ;D
  14. Thank you George! That map is exactly what I was looking for! I was talking to a friend that has been there once and he mention cutting across the lake at a 45 degree angle. Now I understand. You are the best! I am going to do my taxes this week and see if any extra money pops up. I will give you a call this week George.
  15. Christiana gave me this link to the San Diego Jam knot: http://www.netknots.com/html/fishing_knots.html Click on the F for a picture of how to tie it.
  16. I am going to Stick Marsh in the middle of March and I am trying to bone up on the lake as much as possible and I found this youtube video link of Avid and Keithscatch: I have read a lot about navigation hazzards in Stick Marsh / Farm 13 but I did notice that Keithscatch did get on plane in the video. So far I only know of two lake maps. One is sold locally at the Stick Marsh Bait shop and the other is on jimporter.com. Could someone add a yellow line to the map below, how would you navigate from the ramp (dashed line for slow and solid for on plane) to all 4 corners of the lake? I am concidering going with George Welcome to learn about the lake but I don't know if I will have the extra cash to use one of his guides. We are spending the previous week at Disney and the price of airfare, house rental and Disney tickets is going to tax my wallet Thank you to anyone that can help!
  17. Mrs. Matstone, I am planning on attending the Fredericksburg Outdoor Show next Saturday. I will probably take one or both of my boys. My oldest is now old enough to compete in the casting contest. What booth are you working? I went to last years show but didn't buy much. I picked up some senko knockoffs from Case Plastics and that was about it. I need to buy a Mattlures male bluegill and a baby bass. They were gone by the time I got to the Richmond Fishing Expo last Sunday. We will keep an eye out for you.
  18. I own 2 BPS extreme baitcasters and I use them for crankbaits. They work good in that application. You do need to turn the magnetic backlash WAY up for it to work properly. I start on 6 or 7. I have two Rick Clunn reels and like them a little better than the extremes but it is probably only because I like the color blue better than green ;D They seem to cast almost exactly the same. I just got a Johnny Morris signature series baitcaster and MAN that reel is the shazizzle! I practiced casting and pitching in the backyard and I can't get the thing to backlash! I had 2 centrifigal brakes on and ZERO on the magnetic backlash and still didn't get a birdsest. I am happy with my BPS reels and will keep buying them BUT only on SALE! I have several graphite series spinning rods, a bunch of tourney special baitcast and spinning rods and have to say that they are good for the money if bought on SALE. They appear to be heavier than comparable rods from name brand companies. I just got a new extreme rod for Christmas but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.
  19. Last week at the Richmond fishing expo Shaw Grigsby said that you should use the palomar knot for mono. He showed us how to tie his fluorocarbon knot but didn't know the name. I also talked to Christiana Bradley who is on the women's tour and she mentioned watching "knot wars" on http://www.fishingclub.com/Main/default.aspx. Register and look up the "knot wars" video clips. They compare the knots using mono, fluorocarbon and braid. She also mentioned that she was going to try the San Diego jam knot as well.
  20. I read a suggestion on here last year to put dry dog food in a burlap bag, tie a brick to the bag and drop in on your favorite bass spot. The baitfish would be attracted to the dog food and the bass to the baitfish. I might experiment with it this year.
  21. Beg, borrow or steal enough money to go on Safari in Africa. I stayed at Chiawa camp on the Zambezi River in Zambia. You can go on game drives morning, noon or night. You can see lions, leopards, elephants, zebras, hippos, water buffalo, crocks and just about everything except rhinos or giraffes. The other thing you can do is go Tiger Fishing as well. Tiger fish look like a stripper with teeth like a piranha. They hit your lure at full speed....WHACK! It is a great fight. My wife loved it and we plan to go back when the kids are in high school. It was the best experience of my life!
  22. LBH, I just got a bottle of Mendi-It last week. I just tore a Super Fluke at the nose and tried to fix it. I was able to fix it but I also screwed it up worse first! If you pull the two halves apart and put the drop on the plastic, the Mend-It will cut through the two peices like a knife. I was able to fix it after a few tries. It is a soft bond unlike fish glue which is a hard bond.
  23. My favorite is the 1/4oz Strike King Bitsy Flip jig. They are cheep and readily available. Do not get the Bitsy Bug because the weedguard has half of the fibers of the Flip jig. I catch a lot of fish on this jig and caught a lot of 4lb+ bass on them early last year.
  24. Having a wife and two young boys makes all day on the lake a tough bargain! I do spend a lot of 4 hour days on the lake. So I like to keep track by fish per hour. If I am at 2+ fish an hour, I am probably having a good day. My best day was last June on the Potomac. 30+ largemouth. 4 broke the 15 inch minimum length limit for a weight of 12lbs. I even caught two fish on one crankbait at the same time! My parter didn't do too bad, he had about 20+ fish and one over 15 inches.
  25. Thanks for the info RW! I guess it is a good thing that I was busy working this morning!
