Hi-vis or invis?
In your case, the only point of the leader would be reduced visibly from the neon mister crappie to something clear. With braid it’s for abrasion resistance like others posted (with the dual purpose of reduced visibility) my favorite is full spool of 6 lb clear mono, makes everything quicker and easier. And I can see it just fine

Why do I spend $$ on “nice” reels??
I knew you would have some data, I figure you’ve tried every reel ever made every time I have a reel feel “geary” I take it apart and usually find a rock in there. Not sure how that happens but it does. If it still feels funny after rock removal, I’m just stuck with it. I’ve got one spinning reel that sounds like an old squeaky wagon wheel but I still have to use it. It’s comical at times and annoying at other times

Maybe what you were looking for is someone that had a good idea of where the point of “diminishing returns” starts or stops when it comes to pricing . I sure don’t know but I would bet some folks on here do.

Hi-vis or invis?
Gotcha. I’ve never used that before, but it’s a lot easier to attach a leader to mono line than it is braided line if you want to experiment with a leader. The reason people like the hi vis braid is for strike detection via line watching, and the sensitivity of the zero stretch braid. If you can see and feel bites ok, maybe add a leader of clear line just to see if it helps. I wouldn’t imagine smallies where you fish care about line color, pretty murky down there ain’t it?

Seaguar Basix
That’s awesome

Carolina Rig Line
That dog will hunt! Many times I’ve used the same line for main as the leader, 20 or 17 mono. It’s usually deep and muddy, probably not much light getting down there to the bottom anything to shorten the time of rigging when it comes to Carolina

Seaguar Basix
21.5” trout on 4 lb? Heck yeah man! That’s quite the battle. I’ve used the 6 lb seaguar basix and like others posted , it is easy to work with and casts great

Why do I spend $$ on “nice” reels??
If a dunce like me can take apart fishing reels and put them back together, then they aren’t that complicated . They fling line out and then retrieve it……….. a lot of times, about any reel will do. But every now and then, it helps to have something specific to give you an advantage my brother always says “how can you use Salvation Army level fishing gear and still catch plenty of fish?” and then I usually remind him of all the times we had been out fished badly by people using Mountain Dew bottles as fishing rods I think @king fisherhas some Similar stories about folks with rudimentary gear out fishing everyone else The high end gear , I’m guessing, is designed to make life easier for the angler. Better components for longer casts, more sensitivity, etc . I’ve also seen many days bank fishing where the person that could cast the farthest caught the most fish. Several times while striper fishing, they usually had a surf rod or st croix mojo, I walked up and asked haha. Other times were late winter panfish, furthest caster took home all the crappie/bluegill from the crowded shore

Apparently the raccoons just don’t care! They are made of kryptonite. The squirrels left attics about a month ago haha

Go Stanford! if you watch TN games closely all season, you would notice they magically forgot how to get anyone out at first base on ground balls once the NCAA tournament started, not a winning formula. Had some close calls against cAmpbell and Georgia tech, it was only a matter of time
