  1. yes go to lurenet. they even have some special colors
  2. if you take your ultra light a 2 or 3 inch grub on an 1/8 ounce head and fish it by swimming it or hopping it along bottom or swimming it through the water mid depth you will catch any species of fish that swims in the lake. they may not all be whoppers but everything will bite them
  3. i got nothing against guys using them but for right now their not for me. just not what i want out of my fishing experience. i stare at a screen 40plus hours a week not what i wanna do when i go fishing. i dont fish tournaments so that doesnt concern me. at some point i may change my mind who knows.
  4. i fish them all season which usually ends in december and starts in april for me. although in cold water i usually opt for a smaller worm with less action and or a shakey head. jigs i fish all year.
  5. as some others have said you gotta be able to do both now. you cant just catch big bags win or place high in tournaments put a patch on your shirt and get paid. you have to be able to catch em , use social media to engage and promote product and understand marketing from the companies point of view.the days of old bob the recluse who keeps everything secret and doesnt talk to anybody being on a pro staff are over.and you cant just put crap out there you have to be able to articulate and communicate with people. look at tim and matt ( tactical bassin} you probably never heard of them from tournaments or guiding until you saw one of their videos. but theyre likeable guys who can teach and make the average fisherman understand what they are saying.
  6. river rock baits.all i use.
  7. one of the lakes i fish has no shad. lots of bluegill, yellow perch , crappie. the yellow perch will stay in the green grass in fall. Small crappie and bluegill go to shallow wood etc. remember its a food chain. if the plankton small invertebrates etc are shallow. the small fish that feed on them will be shallow, and the bass will be shallow.
  8. actually the lake i fished most this year is a tough one. spring is good. pot spawn not bad . things start to get ugly for me about mid july through mid october. i used to avoid it but its close to my house and now i seem to be obsessed with it. i can catch fish there but not what i should be able to.a single day team tournament will take about 16 to 18 pounds to win in summer. im lucky to catch 6 to 8 most days. but i keep going back, im determined to figure it out.
  9. marker bouys are an old school trick that are still very valuable.
  10. they are gonna cost you a little more but the riot baits tungsten jig is fantastic. now they are tungsten so they cost more but the colors and components are top notch. the dirty jigs compact pitching jig is very good also.
  11. plain smoke and smoke purple. i still use them sometimes in clear water when fish are super focused on shad. like now.
  12. i think i prefer evening because in the morning i always feel like im racing the sun. i wanna hurry up and get my fish before the sun gets too high. in the evenings i feel like i fish more carefully because i feel like my chances are getting better as the sun gets lower. just me and my neurosis.
  13. i have one . love it for jerkbaits, topwaters, and short cast target fishing squarebills. would not consider it an all around rod though.i throw light slim plastics texas rigger with it but if your gonna try to punch a heavy wire hook through a thicker plastic this isnt your stick. very good rod but kind of specialized.
  14. i prefer evening but thats mostly because im lazy.
  15. casting , straight flouro. spinning braid to fluoro. cant tell you why . after trying it all for a few years thats just what i like.
  16. i like a softer more moderate rod for deep cranks but when fishing lipless or sqaurebills around grass you need the slightly stiffer rod to yank the bait when it gets lightly hung in the grass. i dont mean buried i mean when just a sprig of grass grabs a hook. you need the sensitivity to feel that and the tip strength to snap the bait out of it.Since J Francho is from new york he probably fishes around alot of grass which is why he prefers that type of action as do i
  17. also i forgot. if you listen to podcasts listen to bass talk live. on thursdays there is a guy named frank scalish who used to be an elite series pro. hes from ohio and gives tips on seasonal fishing patterns etc . valuable info.
  18. depemds on the type of lake. grass? look for and fish the greenest grass as other grass starts to die. shad? the shad will group up and start to head toward the back of creeks and pockets. in general look for bait fish. the bass will be where the bait is,
  19. pretty good in spring lots of numbers no really big ones but alot of solid chunks. learned alot about staying on and following fish from prespawn through post spawn. early summer wasnt bad stayed on the fish as the grass developed.late july through now tough, some good days some bad. late summer still my nemisis. as it cools off ill usually start doing better.still think i learned alot and am better now than last year.already got some ideas on how to do better next year.
  20. definetly looks like milfoil. great bass habitat. lots of tips on line on how to fish it.
  21. exactly. dont get too carried away with it. bass are pretty opportunistic. use baits that are a general representation of the bait fish you know are in there and fish it. also shad patterns will work even if there are no shad as they have a general bait fish appearance. like WRB said know the general times of the year bass target a type of prey and fish. location trumps color every time. the wrong color fished where the fish are will out produce an exact replica fished in the wrong spot every time.
  22. no doubt rod action and the type of rod a person uses for each technique is very personal. it can also depend on the type of line you like to use.
  23. the 71 medium would be good with 1/4 ounce spinnerbaits. you haveto be careful with st.croix rods. they feel stiff in the store but once you get a reel and a lure on them the tip softens up pretty good. exprides are ridicouloysly good for the price. hought my first this april now own 4
  24. kind of hard to tell. its just what i do. i like being outside, on the water. i like trying to put the puzzle of location, presentation , bait choice etc together. I like feeling the fish pull and fight. its all those things plus probably some others im not aware of.
  25. Russ nailed it.they are different baits. look closely the fluke has more of a minnow profile tapers from top to bottom. good dropshot bait in smaller sizes and nose hooked like a jerk bait. for a weedless jerk bait the super fluke with a bulkier profile and hook slot is much easier to rig straight and fish.
