Lowrance Elite 4 V. Humminbird 386Ci
You need to read the entire specs on any unit you are considering to see if has the features you want. The two you listed are pretty much identical traditional GPS/2D sonar models with the Humminbird having about twice the power. Neither one has down scan, but both units are in a series that have a down scan model. The down imaging model from Humminbird is the 386ci DI and has GPS, 2D sonar, and down imaging The down scan model from Lowrande is the Elite 4-DSI and has GPS, and down scan.

Temperature Probes, Does Anyone Still Use Them?
I have several to check the thermocline, and actual bottom temp for the spawn. This is one of the models I use: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320444289423&item=320444289423

Why Did You Buy That Lure?
I buy lures based on an anticipated pattern or a proven pattern that I establish. I could care less who likes or dislikes it or who the mfg is.

Navionics Hotmaps Question
Have you updated the card so it has the same data that PC has.

I get the same lock-up using Photobucket too when I try to do several things.

Question: What is the whole model name of that unit--every number, letter, and word? Where is the Snaphot selection in the unit menu?? I don't see it in the unit manual where that model has a Snapshot function.

Do this test first, purchase a cheaper SanDisk card of any size and speed to try. You can buy a SanDisk 4GB from Walmart or Radio Shack for about $10. If you have any other cards that you use with your camera try them. That will let you know if the card reader is defective (that can be the issue). Once you determine where the problem is, you can call Humminbird and let them know the tests you did.

Yes, you can use a SDHC card. The SanDisk brand functions the best in Humminbird units. It's hard to even find a card smaller than 4GB any more. The SanDisk Ultra SDHC Card (8 GB) card you have will do fine if it is not defective. It will work fine with the lesser size cards too. I have a 128mb that I use for software updates with the higher end models. The speed is not an issue, just the Class 10 writes the data faster if you want to take screenshots in quick succession. I have had issues with PNY and some camera brands. I have a Panasonic 8mb that came with one of my older cameras that works fine too.

Ping!!!
Sometimes my sonar units are transmitting on three frequencies. Most of the time I just use two frequencies. Do I turn them off when fishing?---NO, I use them to find fish as I am fishing and catching.

Bow Or Transom Mount A Down Imaging Unit?
Another note for bow use: If you choose to use the unit on the bow with a trolling motor transducer, exchange the transducer for the one designed for that purpose. XTM 9 DI 25 T

Bow Or Transom Mount A Down Imaging Unit?
You have no worries about networking with another unit, the 500 series units, including the one you have, is not linkable to another unit. To share a single transducer between two units, you would need two units that are Ethernet capable. That would be 700 series HD units or the current 800, 900, 1100 series units. Second best is two units in the 700 series that are linkable with INTERLINK which only allows sharing GPS data. If you have a thin fiberglass hull like most bassboats, you can use the DI transducer you have as a shoot-thru. Most that have a DI unit and not a fiberglass hull, mount that transducer at the hull bottom to give on-plane depth readings as well as DI images. It works well as a bow unit also with the transducer on the trolling motor.

Do These 4 Lures Have Collectors Value?
Here is a hint: if the package states "The Original", it isn't.

Advice Eagle Fishmark 320 & Lowrance Elite 4X
I disagree for those two units. Both have the same display resolution. While the 320 has a wider screen than the 4X, only the very first vertical row of screen pixels on the right side is current data, all to the left of it is HISTORY. The screen width makes no difference, it just determines how long something that is not within the sonar coverage stays on the screen before it scrolls off the left side. The 4X has a color display and a brighter backlighting; that is more desirable for a bow application in bright sunlight since the screen will be tilted up for viewing.

Pound Thrust Of This Johnson Trolling Motor?
Motor Guide foot controlled motors have the momentary on button on the right side of the pedal like the OMC does. Minnkotas have that button on the left side of the pedal. That is one of the reasons I like Motor Guides. I had 4 of the OMC motors. one on a bass boat, one on a 10' jon boat, one on a 12' jon boat, and a spare. I used them from 1988 through 2009.

Pound Thrust Of This Johnson Trolling Motor?
They are popular with the "GO-FAST" boat crowd because of their light weight.

If it has the 12" prop, it is 56# If it has the 8" prop it is 41#

Fish Finder Suggestions
Since you already have a HDS unit , another one would be the smart choice. You could network them. Additionally you are already familiar with the menu system. As far as the trolling motor transducers go, the convenience of an internal one is offset by poor performance according to reports on another web site.

Cleaning Sonar Screens.
That's great, you use one of the substances that destroys the anti-reflective coating.

Cleaning Sonar Screens.
Humminbird RECOMMENDS Windex Multi-surface with vinegar for their screens. You can use any snake oil and take the chance of screwing up the anti-reflective coating on them.

Line Size..braid On Spinning Gear
If you want to experience what shock strength is all about, use an umbrella rig on a baitcaster with any superline less than 65# test and get a backlash. I use 80# superline for that presentation--been-there-done-that.
