Pull off about 1/2 of the flurocarbon and put on a superline with 6# mono equivelent diameter. Then add a 4' leader of that fluorocarbon. Flurocarbon is bad enough on spinning gear but in cold weather, it is more unruley.

SORRY, you are correct, I've been looking at install photos almost all day and just lost my perspective. Thanks for correcting me. WELL in that case, DON'T use that one and get the proper one for shoot-thru and do it right the first time. While you can use that torpedo for shoot-thru, it is more difficult to keep it positioned correctly while the epoxy sets up. When a transducer is available for a particular installation use the proper one. Yes, you can use that torpedo on the transom for high speed depth readings, BUT that is not the BEST application for that hull type and performance capablilty. That is the difference between mounting a system and installing a system.

The 1' suggestion is in case you think it is cool to overlay the Down Scan over the 2D view like this.

That round one in your hand is a 2D SHOOT-THRU model. That goes INSIDE your hull and is epoxied to the location you determine AFTER you test for the best location. It can be used on the trolling motor via a hose clamp. You have a high performance, stepped transom, bass boat, that needs a shoot-thru for on-plane depth readings. A transom mount 2D transducer by Lowrance/Eagle is torpedo shaped and comes with a transom bracket. You can attach the LSS transducer above the hull bottom since imaging is a idle speed function.

If you scratched the paint off to bare metal, that is where you will get rust.

No, I may have moved the jack forward some. I just took some close-up pictures and will add then later. What I explained about the 2 X 2 is a little off, put it across the frame behind the marker lights. You will see in the photos-I've got to resize them before posting them.

You can attach it to the top of the frame behind the wench stand. That is where I put mine on the Tracker trailer. I don't see it in my mirrors. It costs about $1.50 to do it.

That dealer is no more a factory outlet store than Walmart is for TV's. They also misrepresent the products. They advertise a Humminbird 1198c SI HD and there is no such model. There is only the 1198c SI. Their sale price on the discontinued 998c SI is about $200 higher than marine electronics dealers such as BBG Marine Electronics.

I agree. The DSI units are fine for riding around looking for stuff, but are worthless for fishing. If you have a traditional 2D sonar unit, they are good companion units. For a Lowrance Down Scan unit, the Elite-7 HDI is the way to go. Humminbird has about 18 units ( discontinued and new models) that do Down Imaging and 2D sonar.

I fished Toho a few years ago when the drawdown was done to cleanup the weeds. Very difficult to get to water deep enough to navigate. I tried three different launch locations to find the best access. Alligators were everywhere--no place to hide on land close to the water.

I have posted this image a few times. The transducer is on the trolling motor. I am following a creek channel (on the right side) looking for fish. There is no way I could know where it was using DI or 2D sonar unless I was above it and scaring any fish I may pass over. There is a school of small baitfish about 1/2 down the image in the creek (gray blob). Above the baitfish in the creek are some white streaks (those are bass). I caught some of them. Note the displayed water depth where the boat is and the range I have the unit set to display (numbers on the top right and left). There is 100' of lake bottom from left to right being displayed. The dark area in the image on each side of the vertical centerline is the water column under the transducer. That is all 2D or DI would be showing at that depth.

Down Imaging or Down Scan units work just as well as 2D sonar in shallow water. You just don't have enough depth to display a lot of bottom at any one time with either. If you know where stuff is, you will get a good look at it. Otherwise you have to do a lot of searching to find stuff. Humminbird DI units and Lowrance DSI units have the same two imaging frequencies. If you want that technolgy in a low end "enty level" unit, the Lowrance DSI units do not have 2D sonar like the Humminbird DI units do. Side Imaging or Structure Scan is the deal in shallow water due to the coverage. Side Imaging is better though since it has more horizontal coverage for shallow conditions.

You did better than I did for 2012. I was too wimpy on some of those very windy days and hot summer days and stayed home. Only caught 2360 bass for 74 fishing days.

This discussion is like a lot --- it's about a lure/presentation trying to find a use for it or you can't catch anything with it. You have the whole deal backwards. You should select a presentation because it fits a pattern where you fish and when you fish--as some have stated baitfsh and bass together. So many hear about a niche presentation and think all they have to do is buy one and they can catch fish with it too, not understanding when and why it is productive.

I have the Endura Safari. It doesn't use Navionics software like my H2O does. I haven't purchased any mapping for the Endura. Those units for fishing purposes are only as good as the mapping available for them. I used to use the H2O a lot before getting all my sonar units with GPS. It also uses the Lowrance lake mapping software. I have several of the Lowrance Free Enhanced map locations for it. If you can find a H2O or H2Oc, you will have a better fishing tool, IMHO It looks like the handheld market is mostly geared towards terrestrial use.
