  1. I know what you mean as far as the cranks. I had a small box full of them go up in a house fire a few years ago. I was about mad as you could get. I didn't have the money to replace all with new but what I did find was that at the local flea market there was a guy who owned a bait shop in town and to get rid of old stuff he would bring it down there and sell it at a discount. YOu could get 3 or 4 hard baits for around 10 bucks. You had to shift through alot of stuff you might not throw but it was worth it. I still stop down there from time to time to see what he has got. I just got a shimano scimitar spinning rod for 18 dollars off of him.

A tube can be rigged like most soft plastics but they also have special jig heads that will fit up inside of the tube. I like to use them to flip around heavy vegetation either texas rigged with the sinker pegged or while fishing docks and swimming them on a jig head. It can be hpped along the bottom, drug, or swam like any other soft plastic.
  3. First welcome to the site. I would get a med to med-heavy rod: if spinning med if baitcaster med-heavy. Go with 10-14# test line in a mono. Check out basspro shop or cabelas online store they have combos at a good price and the reel is usually matched with a good rod for a beginner. I perfer shimano reels my self but find one that you like. Go to a local bati shop and look around at them see what you like the look and feel of. Good luck and have fun getting started on this wonderful new hobby you got.
  4. What!!?? No pics??!! Couldn't find the camara in time ;D I was a bit distracted :
  5. So that is what the 18 year old blonde next door was doing out in the yard
  6. What time of day are you going? If it is early or late in the day try a buzz bait on top. The weightless rod sounds good to me so just give it a try.
  7. With all the weed cover they might not be that shallow. It never hurts to try. I watched a guy throwing top water in cooler water and he was catching fish just fine.
  8. Get you some frogs both the hollow body and soft plastic style. Run these over the pads and see what you get then. It sounds like one of the lakes I fish. Also I like to take a zoom trick worm and rig it weightless and just swim it through the weeds. Both of these work real good for me.
  9. First welcome to the site. Second sounds like you are all set. The best thing with the kids is to find fish no matter what they are, keep them intrested and having a good time and you will have a good time too. I love throwing spinnerbaits and they are easy to use. Just cast and reel them in. Good luck and have a good time out there.
  10. I wish it would have been a class while i was in school because I spent more time studing it then I did just about anything else while I was there ;D ;D
  11. All look great.
  12. Give your local newspaper a call. See if they need delivery people for routes. I did this for 5 years and between it and the yards I cut I bought my first boat. 17 ft tracker pro 17. It is steady work everyday and pays pretty good. Also alot of the people who get the paper will give you tips and you can find lawn work on the route.
  13. Great story nothing is worse than loosing a good rig not to mention a brand new one.
  14. Good looking rig. If you are intrested make sure you do the lake test. I looked at one that I thought I would love and when I took it out it handled awful. If I had bought it without driving it first I would have spent even more on getting the steerring fixed on it.
  15. Snagproof for hollow body and Yum buzz frog for soft plastic.
  16. I use 10-12# Trilene xt I fish around alot of standing timber so I like the abrasion resestince that the xt gives me. The stretch the mono has helps to keep me from pulling the bait out of the fishes mouth all of the time too.
  17. That blows. I never have been able to figure out how some people have the nerve to do the things they do. I hope they catch the crooks. You might want to check some of the local pawn shops around town you might be able to find some of your gear there.
  18. I golf and found that it is the same thing. When I go into any store that has both golf and fishing my wife has to put blinders on me to keep me going. And it is not taking away from the bait monkey he just uses a different name around a golfer, Fairway Monkey ;D ;D
