Thats cool man. I remember thats how I got started in bass fishing. I didn't really know what it felt like to catch a nice bass. I would crappie fish a lot because they were very easy to catch. But ever since my dad handed me that rod with a 4 pounder on it I've been bass fishing. They are just a lot more fun than crappie. So you could of just made that kid a fisherman for a lifetime.

Dobyns rods are made by Gary Dobyns, the same guy who played a large part in making Powell bass rods. Dobyns are much better balanced. For that reason alone, I have 3 Dobyns and 0 Powells. The hook keeper on the powells also catches the line sometimes, and can get in the way. I tried the Dobyns 765 vs the Powell 765 with a Revo STX, the Powell was extremely tip heavy, and balanced quite high. The dobyns on the other hand, balanced just above the reel, and wasn't tip heavy at all. Dobyns is just a newer version of the powells pretty much, with a few upgrades ;D Good info man. That really helps with my decision considering im putting an STX on it.

My next rod is either gonna be a Powell or carrot stick. Are they noticeably different. Also what about Dobyns compared to Powell. Are they the same or what??

Smooth and powerfull. I use mine for jigs. It doesnt cast lighter baits to well. Its looks are a big plus to.

Yea I was shocked by that pick as well.The Buccs would of gotten Malcolm Kelly if the skins didnt just take him.

And that's the rods fault how? :-? :-/ Guess it could be something else but I know his parabolic bend versus his medium action st croix looses hook sets on the same baits WAY more often. Maybe the rod bending all over is allowing the line to not get as tight to drive that hook in. But it was pointed out on the same jig and the same shakey head that the Carrot wasn't driving that hook in and the St Croix seemed to do the trick. Different fish of course but the same day, same weight, even same line. He "tested" it because he lost fish the weekend before. Just a theory He shouldnt use a parabolic bend rod for jigs and shakey heads.

Yep that would deffinatly be why it felt like a medium. At least Cabelas messed up and its not E21 making them weird.

I love fishing in the rain it almost like intensifies it. I get pumped to fish in the rain.

I wouldnt say their important its just what your comfortable with using. So their not important at all because you can still fish with spinning. I do like to use bait casters better though

I went out on saturday. The wind was insane and my trolling motor wasnt working on 24 volt. It was only going on 12 so I just had to get in some protected coves. And even there I was harassed by the wind. I only stayed out for about three hours. I caught 3 that went about 12-14 inches and I had one come unbuttoned that I think was at least 7. I tightened my drag about all the way to try and control the fish but it just kept peeling line and got me wrapped around a piling.

Nice fish. Are those the carrot stix in the background. Did you catch it on one of em?
