  1. Have fun down there and be safe. @everythingthatswims just fished down there and caught some pigs. Sounds like you better get the flipping stick out
  2. What a great write up. Persistence paid off. Congrats on the championship birth!
  3. Nice! I'm in the area as well. About 25 minutes from the east side
  4. I prefer medium fast or extra fast for fishing shaky heads on casting gear. 30Lb braid to 12Lb leader.
  5. 1. Fluorocarbon still sucks (for me) 2. The sv spool in a daiwa does help learning how to skip. 3. Boat does in fact stand for, break out another thousand
  6. I dont fish them much, but when I do I fish them almost as a topwater. Twitches upward and it pops up out of the water like a fleeing shad or bluegill. I fish them weightless on a baitcaster on 30Lb braid
  7. 1/4 ounce rating I'm sure it will throw great. Because most baits that are rated this are usually 3/8 or more. But a true 1/4 ounce bait is pushing the limits of the rod, since it is only rated down to a 1/4ounce
  8. My fishing buddy caught his on on the 1/2 ounce version of the blugill pattern one. He broke it off later that day and searched for years to find another to stick in the mouth of the mount. Cool baits
  9. 7Ft medium heavy (fishes like a heavy with a soft tip) 50Lb braid to 17Lb copoly leader. 7:1 gear ratio reel. Have fished them on everything from a 6:1 all the way to an 8:1 and although the reel is the least important part of football jigs, I think a 7:1 works best for me.
  10. Are you talking a true 1/4 ounce bait or a bait that has a 1/4 ounce rating?
  11. I personally use 65Lb in a 4 strand braid. It is more coarse and cuts vegetation better than 8 strand.
  12. Try owner twistlock light hooks.
  13. What do you consider small? What type of cover? How deep?
  14. In off colored water i like the same colors I use for clear and muddy water. Just because water clarity changed doesn't mean the forage changes.
  15. It would work, but not great. There are much better options out there. But it could work in a pinch
  16. Not a seasoned skipper, but recently started skipping and found that line choice didn't affect the outcome. I am also using a tatula sv. I skip jigs with either 50lb daiwa j-braid x4 or 17lb sunline assassin.
  17. Daiwa fuego. Only $70 on eBay. Its a beast of a reel at that price point and is just about as smooth as my tatula's and tatula sv's. And with the money you save you could actually buy 2 fuegos or spend the extra on squarebills, line, or other tackle.
  18. I have 2. And as mentioned they are shallow spooled but they hold plenty of line for me. Had one spooled up with 17lb fluoro and I could spool myself on a long cast with a stiff wind at my back and a 3/4 ounce jig tied on. Granted, I didn't buy the reel to cast with I bought it to skip and pitch with. If you want to try an sv spool with the baits mentioned, I'd say go for it. The advantages greatly outweigh the shallow spool But on the opposite side of the arguement, you could just get a tatula ct and have pretty much the same reel minus the shallow spool, and 30 dollars cheaper.
  19. 12,17,25. Meant to buy 20 instead of 25 but the 25 handles fine for pitching heavy wood cover so I think I will continue to buy it.
  20. Thanks @Paul Roberts, gonna try my go to Palomar or regular San Diego jam and give it a whirl, the line (seaguar senshi) is actually "20lb" but only has a diameter of .013
  21. Prides creek in pike county, New lake in gibson county, both have nice camp grounds. Also bluegrass fwa is only 30 miles away and has some great fishing. Big bass and a chance of a musky. Prides is in my home town. Let me know if you end up going may be able to put you on some unknown good spots Also scales lake in warrick county
  22. I also feel like balance affects fishability. For example, I bought a 7'3 heavy power rod I was going to use for jigs. I absolutely loved the power, action, and grips of the rod. But I mounted my reel of choice on there and the combo sucked! Felt like I was fishing with a baseball bat and it felt like I had the sensitivity of one as well. Just didn't enjoy it. Now I have a different reel mounted on it, and use it as a heavy pitching rod with heavy fluorocarbon and now love the combo. It really opened my eyes that balance and how the combo feels in your hand is really all the difference.
  23. They can sell them that cheap because they probably only cost about 40 or 50 bucks to actually make. And with ebay being strictly online they can eliminate a lot of middle men. I don't think They took a step backwards. Shimanos last a long time and with the green curado having almost a cult following, and the I series being a solid reel, not many people need or feel the need to upgrade is my guess. Also look at what they are competing with. A tatula ct can be had for around $95, and a tatula sv tw can be had for around $130. They have to be in the ball park range of those 2 reels or they will sell less. And in my opinion those w daiwa beat my curado I in every single category. Sorry for the long rant but I have also asked myself this same question. Great minds think alike lol
