  1. Catch some big ones! Will be awaiting a good report and a good finish
  2. I'm nowhere near Toledo bend, but man I love reading this thread. Good stuff
  3. Need to hear that story! Lol
  4. Most guys that freak out at the idea of throwing cranks on a fast or extra fast rod, throw jerkbaits and possibly topwater poppers on a fast or extra fast and those baits most of the time have smaller lighter wire hooks. I don't use a fast or extra fast on cranks because a slower tapered rod loads easier and makes it easier for me to have a long cast. I'm not known to have the longest casts (30-40 yards) and distance is key with Crankbaits. I also crank with braid to leader, I'm sure most people would have a cow if they knew that I Still caught fish.
  5. No but I have wacky rigged a whopper plopper
  6. I'd pick carolina rigged pink buzzbait
  7. The 7.3 were $119 last night. Haven't checked tonight though. Unusually high from alpha2omegam plus there is a 20% off coupon code floating around for presidents day. Which would make it like $107 because it only works on the 134 dollar ones
  8. I've got 2 or 3 and I got 1 for as low as $119. They are great even at retail though
  9. Most frogs have a white belly. The belly is the only part of the frog a fish will see. I don't see a problem unless it really bothers you that the hidden part of your frog doesn't have a cool design.
  10. Tatula sv tws. Can be had for under 150 on the auction site.
  11. I stay stocked up throughout the year. I only replenish so rarely do I spend over $100 in tackle at a time. Unless it's a rod or reel. We don't have a season here and this is the first year in 3 years that we had solid ice.
  12. The most effective way for me is to fish it along and in top of grass/weed lines. Keep it just above the vegetation with as slow of a retrieve as possible. Works well around rocks, bumping them every now and again. Has also been a good deep water bait for me slow rolling it along the bottom just fast enough to feel the vibration
  13. I live the good life, when I fish out of a boat it is an 18ft John boat with a tiller trolling motor. I always fish up front with my buddy running the motor in the back. All I gotta do is fish. It doesn't matter to me either way. But usually we fish with the bank on the right side of the boat because that is the way the wind is blowing and it makes it easier for him to steer the boat. He does a great job of not back boating himself and catching plenty of big ones while wrestling the motor as well.
  14. Glock 17 or 19 with three 31 round magazines loaded to capacity, and a whistle. The pistol is self explanatory, but the whistle would really be affective if you were tired and worn out and couldn't yell for help anymore. Much easier to blow a whistle than to yell. Its Also louder. Waterproof matches, coconut husk, a few energy bars, water, poncho, paracord, good sharp knife. Just some ideas of small things that would save your life if stranded
  15. I use braid for sensitivity and ease of handling. Mono or copolymer leader for abraision resistance, a tiny bit of shock absorbstion, and to keep treble hook baits from fouling on the line. Nothing makes me more angry than making a perfect cast with a crankbait, popper, or jerkbait and having the line wrapped around the hooks. Using a stiff leader will help this problem.
  16. 1/4 ounce weight plus plastic you're golden. 1/4 ounce crank you'll probably struggle. It's a great single hook rod, not a great treble hook bait rod
  17. 1/2 ounce total weight is fairly light for a 7'6 heavy rod and 20lb copoly imo.
  18. Yes love it.
  19. 6'10 or 7' medium heavy I love pitching 3/8 and 1/2 ounce jigs with mine
  20. Been very pleased with my 7'5 MH cabelas zx crankshaft. It fishes like a true medium heavy. It is a longer rod than I really prefer but with a longer handle that helps me with longer casts. The winn grips are nice. Use it for 1/2 and 3/4 lipless baits, 1/2 spinnerbaits and chatterbaits in deep water as well. 3/4 of an ounce is the sweet spot for this rod. Also use a 7'6 mh denali rosewood cranking rod. It fishes between and m and mh. Amazing for 3/8 up to 3/4 ounce cranks. 1/2 ounce sweet spot. Wouldn't push this one as high on the lure rating as the previous rod I mentioned. I bought it used off eBay from American legacy fishing for around $60 Even though it retailed for triple that I believe.
  21. 5 and 6xd's i use a 7'6 medium heavy moderate, graphite rod. 8 and 10xd's I use a 7'11 heavy moderate, glass rod. There's a big difference in a 5 and 10xd
  22. Unsure about fluoroclear, but cxx is naturally buoyant so where ever you put it in the water column it tends to stay there. I have used cxx for topwater poppers and it worked well
  23. How heavy of jigs, spinners, and chatterbait? Also what type of cover? And what line do you plan to use?
  24. We've got a few beaver hits in the pit we fish. Always hit them a few times through the day. Usually a spinnerbait, fluke, Texas rig creature or craw, and jig. Seems we can always muster up at least 1 or 2 fish off of each no matter the conditions. Never have caught a "giant" off of a beaver hit yet though..keyword, yet
