  1. With the way I have been choosing guys, it doesn't matter where they are fishing I couldn't pick a wedgie at this point
  2. I try to align as many common variables as I can. If I'm catching fish on a chatterbait, I want to know what the depth is that I'm getting the bites at. It doesn't have to be specific, top, middle or bottom of the water column is a good place to start. Then what type of cover or structure was I getting the bites at? Now I can try some type of soft plastic in the same areas with a similar retrieve. So lets say my chatterbait bites are when I am slow rolling it on/near the bottom. I can change to a soft plastic and drag/hop it off the bottom in that same area. I'm not soaking the bait because my earlier bites were on a moving lure This is where the knowledge of what the bass might be eating comes into play. It its bluegills then you can try bluegill color, sized and shaped soft plastics. If its crawfish then something that resembles the crawfish colors in that area at that time. A lot of times I have found that many of the prey have similar color as the bottom composition they are on. Here we have a lot of red clay banks and I do better with lures in those type of colors where as when I lived in Ohio I often used lighter color baits as many of the areas I fished were sandy The thing is... its fishing- meaning what worked yesterday might be 100% different than what works today That's why we keep casting because that next cast might be "the one" however once you catch "the one" you''ll be on the hunt for the one thats bigger than that
  3. What type of cover /structure are you fishing from the bank? Do you have laydowns, points, weed edges, deep drop offs or anything similar? If you are fishing during daylight hours try finding areas that are shaded. There are a million soft plastics out there that will catch fish, but only if they are fished in areas that have fish. It sounds so simple but often people are too concerned with what to fish, when where to fish is the most important.IMO
  4. I got the nickname "Northwind" when fishing Lake Erie. Seemed like everytime we went out the wind blew the opposite direction they said it would. (Canada always trying to push it's cold miserable weather our way)? I hated when those big waves came in and you were looking straight up into the sky and then straight down into the lake with the water crashing over top of the deck and the bilge pump screaming to give it a break. Those Erie winds can pick up in a hurry. If I was buying specifically for Erie I'd buy a bigger used boat than a smaller new one.

  6. I use the nitrile gloves too. I've got the 9mil from harbor freight If it's really chilly I'll wear those cheap knit stretchable gloves underneath the nitrile ones
  7. I'm gonna head to the protected shore as it will be easier to determine if there are fish in that area Sure in theory the windy shore may be holding fish, however your ability to control the boat and make accurate casts will also be affected If this theory is true and the baitfish are on that north shore, they'll be there all day if the wind is blowing I'm a topwater guy so I'm gonna start in the calmer water and if I'm not seeing any activity I'll move to the windy shore Also from my experience living in Ohio when they say 10-20, it'll really be a 20 mph sustained wind with higher gusts
  8. It's not fast and furious but I'm catching a few it's that weird time of year where you can catch a smallie or a large mouth because they are both chasing the schools of bait My tourney partner has been doing better than me but he throws that A-rig on deep ledges with a bend in them I hate throwing that 10 pound rig so I avoid it and miss out on some catches for sure
  9. It has slowed down for me the last few weeks. Every year around the late summer they start dropping the water about a foot and a half each week. This pushes the fish into the main channel and deeper.(water temps are still in the low 80's) Not too great for my toad fishing, so I've been working the ends of points with walking baits. The good thing is it allows me to take pictures of all the cover/structure that I've been catching fish off of all year. When the water rises again, I dont have to try and remember where all the stuff was at.
  10. I think its the orange 1st year coach + 2 year quarterback + couple drama queens at wide out + undisciplined team = Same old Browns just a lot more salary My life story as a Browns fan in 3 letters - MNY- Maybe next year .........
  11. Ok, so all the great fisherman have given you all the juicy details on where to find fish I'm going to give you some not so standard advice. Life jackets and kill switches save lives - always use them Please do not block the ramp while getting your boat ready to launch 32 oz gatorade bottle is great for a bathroom bottle. Keep a roll of TP in a baggie for emergencies. Buy a lure retriever- I like the ones that have the chains attached as they seem to catch the hooks if the weight doesn't work. Waypoints are great but I still like using marker buoys for the visual aid. I have a ruler and a scale ready .... just in case I have to use the same process everytime when launching so I don't forget a step. I have mine broken down to a 5 point inspection- Straps > Motor Toter > Plug > Rope(2) (tied to boat and to trailer) I have failed to do all of the above at one time I also have a spare truck key hidden in the boat, because yes I have lost my keys in about 60 feet of water
  12. I like the larger version of the shower blows bait. In fact I picked up a few knock-offs and I couldn't tell the difference except on the wallet. The knock-offs were under 2 bucks a piece with no hardware and come unpainted. https://cedarrunoutdoors.com/shower-blow-style-ko-blank-large/
  13. That sucks to hear about getting your gear stolen. It looks like you and your kids are going to have a blast in the next few years fishing together!!
  14. Awesome!! I bet that was a blast
  15. I've had to use the braid trick a few more times than I would have liked Since I usually fish by myself and hook myself in the hand most often, I have to tie the braid to something stationary, push down on the hook with the other hand and then jerk the hand with the hook in it away from the object you tied the braid to.
  16. On a pc CTRL +Shift+Delete will pull up the window to clear cache/temp internet files in IE/Chrome/Firefox/Edge
  17. That's awesome the middle school bass team!! I'd suggest a ned rig with zman TRD's. The zman line of baits are very durable and will give you the most value for you soft plastics. I'd venture to guess that it won't be too long and he'll have a whole list of baits for you to buy him.
  18. When the sun is up, I'm targeting the shade pockets on the sunny side. I'm skipping a toad and using a reverse rig senko as an alternative. The lake I usually fish is mostly rocky banks and has some laydowns Anywhere, the bottom is a little darker can hold fish. Sometimes it's just a large rock that creates a shade line. Saw an article on another site that highlighted some of these areas.
  19. Let me add that not only did Edwin Evers win the event, he destroyed the competition. He won by 44lbs and 15 ounces He caught 23 fish in 22 minutes in a flurry in the 3rd round to put it away. His weight total of 85-06 was 15-pounds more than the combined totals of the second and third place anglers. In the third period alone, Evers caught 34 bass for a total of 48-08. That alone would have been enough to claim the win today. https://majorleaguefishing.com/bass-pro-tour/by-the-numbers-evers-magical-championship-run-on-pool-7/
  20. Edwin Evers wins the Redcrest championship !! Great year for him in winning the points championship(AOY) and their biggest event the Redcrest Championship.
  21. Seriously, the guy has to be worst at guessing weight all day he has been consistently wrong He must use mono all the time and can never actually feel how big they are... hahahahahahahaaa ? Yesterday, Strader was within a couple ounces on most of his guesses and several times was exact
  22. Saw in the news some lady caught a double mouthed lake trout
  23. They cut the field to 20 and then split those guys into 2 groups of 10. Ike just got on a school and put a bunch in the boat. Jacob Powroznik is running away with it today.
  24. The rumor that was going around was that KVD's strike king deal was renegotiated right before his classic win in 2005. That deal was for a new line of KVD endorsed baits to be produced and his royalties were upwards of a dollar a bait. Well he won the classic with the 1.5 squarebill and sales were out the roof. The forum where this rumor was at had a link to an interview that Zona gave and he said something to the effect of how many baits you think were sold with KVD's name on it? Well thats how much money he made. Many took that as the evidence needed to back up the dollar per bait rumor. The pro's never disclose their sponsorship deals so I don't think we'll know for sure. That's where I think BPT/MLF could potentially out draw BASS, because of all the air time they get. I see BPT/MLF at the top of the tv/social media game and thats what is driving a lot of sponsorship these days.
