Style of hook recommendation for 4.8 Keitech
Keitechs are not know for their durability. But a good center pin screwlock will make them last a bit longer. So that is where the owner beast hook pays for itself as opposed to a 4/0 ewg. And 1/8 is just enough weight to keep the tail motion from causing body roll toword the head. Too much weight and you have to move the bait faster to keep it off the bottom and take a little of the motion at slow speeds that they are known for.

The Bass Boats Did It
I fish from shore, don't lump me in with that bunch. Maybe they should use the right bait for the conditions i.e. weedless frogs, t-rigged plastics. I've pulled some decent fish out of that kind of stuff. And I think jet skis pull up a lot more grass than bass boats do. ( when in doubt blame jet skis )

Any michigan guys here
Don't know if this will help anyone but, during my vacation at Houghton lake I notice the craws had a blueish color on their hardened old shell and the new parts of their shell was orange. Didn't find this out til my last day of the trip.

Whats been working for everyone so far this season? Underspins with keitechs have been doing well for me so far.

What's your fluke technique?
Is that last one a zoom fluke in California 420 color? I just picked up a bag of those at Ollies discount store for $2 a bag.

Disecting tackle shops
I'd stick to a small local bait shop and see what they stock, most don't have the retail space to put tons of eye candy out on their floor. So they have to be dailed into their local water better than a big store. After you build a knowledge base of what works on your water, then you worry about having fringe/situational baits.

Bass fishing firsts this year
Go ahead and laugh, got my first bass on a tube this year and my first on dropshot. Before I got on this site everything was spinnerbait, buzzbait, crankbait, or frog. This site has helped a great deal. Next up jig.
-
Cracking tubes
That would be correct. Its done on semi slack line to make the tube jump up and foreword on the snap, but the slack allows it to dive back close to where it was. And you will need at least 3/8 ounce head to do it
-
Cracking tubes
I know this technique works in Michigan for smallies. Does it work down south for large mouth?

Wow Semperbass and I thought it was bad that my wife only has confidence in spinnerbaits. Sounds like you made the best of it though. Better luck next time.

Made the classic mistake of trying to fish lake St. Clair on a holiday weekend. Too many jet skis which I expected, but boats trolling 15ft off shore while people are casting. Really! Like 6 boats did this. Would have fired a sinker at the boats but not good to do in front of my 5yr old son. I'm guessing the younger group 40yds down may have due to the arguing. Landed just one bass, and missed about 3 hook sets due to kids and adults creeping right up next to me while I'm working my jig and talking to my son.

new guy, interested in learning
I've been fishing for years before I found this site, and I've learn a lot more in the short time that I have been reading articles and forum. They're a lot of helpful people here. I spend time now trying to work on new to me techniques, but sometimes a bass will interrupt my practice. I agree with Pondbassin on a spinning rod 7ft medium heavy if you have the vehicle to transport it. I found out the hard way with a 7ft 6in baitcaster that the tip will work its way to the front door jam on a long drive in a suv. Stopped for gas and broke the tip when I got out. Have fun on the site and good luck fishing.

Record bass on chicken nugget
My money is on sweet&sour.

Bladed jig vs spinnerbait
I've had a little more success with chatterbaits using beaver style trailers. Swimming it over submerged weed beds and killing it at weed edges and holes then twitching and hopping, and then slow roll it just enough to get the blade working again.

Hey Semperbass did practice go well at Houghton lake? And are you going to leave any bass for me to get in july? ?

Finicky largemouth
Have you tried a jerk bait or a tube? Jerk bait might give move action while still in the stike zone so they don't have to chase far. It will be helpful so you can dial in on depth and how long you want to take complete your cast. Tube when you crack them will give you more time in an area because they tend to go away from you on the drop from cracking. Hope this helps.

I've been going there for vacation for the past 7 years. My experience is on spinnerbait your going to be getting a lot of pike on the southern part of lake. Weed bed on the southern part are a little more dense. Northern and western part are a little thinner. I've only fished the eastern bay once but water was murky haven't had the chance to get back to it. Don't know if that helps. But thats july conditions.

Got 2 small large mouth yesterday. Finally something besides pike

Where did certain color originate?
Well not impossible but, the answer might be before alot of us ever fished. Like lures that have come out since I've been fishing 10 years ago I'd never heard of an A-rig. Or sexy shad as a color scheme.

Where did certain color originate?
With a lot of people here that have been fishing longer than I have. I was wondering where, when, and what bait companies made certain colors popular? Like green pumpkin or chartuse.
