Anyone use straight braid for everything?
I have only tried dropshotting a couple of times and used my cranking rod with 20 pound braid. This upcoming season I'm going to use a spinning set up with 10 pound mono as I'm going to force myself to learn to dropshot. I don't really have the patience for it but we'll see how it goes. LOL

The beauty of fishing. Use whatever you want! No rules!

I do.

I use a double uni. Easy to tie and I've never had one give. With a little practice the actual knot is nice and small.

Anyone use straight braid for everything?
I used straight braid for everything until this past summer. Now I tie a very short mono leader on crankbait and jerkbait rods. It has nothing to do with visibility for me. I do it because it lessens the line getting caught up with the hooks.

Any good "do it all" jigs you can recommend?
Dirty Jigs Tour Level Pitchin Jig. By far my favorite and other than swim jigs it's the only jig I use. Well, punching and bladed too but that's a different animal.

Looking for a fish finder for my new 2019 Hobie PA14
Lowrance Hook2 Tripleshot w/Navionics $650 Lowrance Elite-7 Ti2 w/Navionics $820 Both are under $1,000. I'd go with the Elite, mainly for the touch screen.

When all else fails...
This past season I probably caught more bass on a swim jig/Keitech Fat than the next three presentations combined. If those failed a Rage Tail or Sweet Beaver on a T-rig didn't.

Jig Trailer Action vs. Water Temp ?
I'm going to purchase some Spicy Beaver to see how I like it compared to the Rage.

Who has ordered a kayak from austin kayak?
I've never ordered a kayak from them but have made numerous orders for other items and find them to be hit or miss on speed of delivery and communication. I've waited months for items they show in stock, I've gotten orders in two days. LOL Today I got an email from them regarding NRS shoes. Gee, would that be the same ones I ordered two months ago and am still waiting on? The ones that were in stock then and show in stock now? I email and call and am told either A: They're in stock and will ship today or tomorrow B: They're out of stock and aren't sure when the next shipment comes in Luckily I don't need them until March.

Jig Trailer Action vs. Water Temp ?
I don't really go by water temp as much as fish activity. When the season starts out I start with a Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver or a Rage Bug. As the season progresses and the fish get more aggressive I switch to a Rage Tail craw. I do the reverse as the season ends. If it's going slow I'll change it up at any time of year though. This past summer I was fishing a small lake that I go to when I want to catch numbers.....it was mid June and I usually slay them there with the Rage Tail, nada, switched to the Bug, same color and started catching until I went through two packages......... So you never know.

Garmin vs Lowrance
I'm currently thinking hard about upgrading from a Hook2 Splitshot to add side imaging to my kayak. I'd also like to have a touch screen. I've only been looking at Lowrance but now will have to look at Garmin.

Where and when to dropshot?
I fish a lot of quarries from a kayak. Dropshot is going to be next years new technique to add. I'm hoping for some success!

Kayak clothing
I only plug the holes under my seat. I don't get much water in my kayak ever, maybe 1/8" around the scuppers, it flows in and out. Summer/warm I wear flip flops, water shoes, nothing once I'm in and fishing. Clothing isn't any different than if I was fishing from shore or a bass boat. Cold water I wear knee high rubber insulated hunting boots. I wear merino wool underlayers, thickness depends on temp and it still retains heat when wet, not that I get very wet. Layers over that depend on the temp. My last time out was 33 degrees, merino wool base layers, water resistant cargo pants, hooded sweatshirt with another one one over that. Half finger wool gloves. Oh, wool socks under the boots. I was very comfortable. The trick is to size the layers so you have good mobility.

Vibe Shearwater 125
The four rod stagers on the sides, the open deck while still having a depth finder pod, the sleek bow and wider stern, the proximity of the rear well to the seat for easy access, four more flush rod mounts, Bixby ready........all are pluses. I don't know if I'll ever add the pedal since I use the Bixby, and I don't know if I'll ever add the Versapod since there's a drawer under the seat are also potential addons.

Vibe Shearwater 125
I ordered one and expected delivery in early March. I've owned several kayaks and fish out of one 5-7 days a week when there's no ice covering the water. Each kayak I've owned has had a few aspects I liked, a few I didn't. The Shearwater seems to combine what I like from each one and eliminated the things I didn't. Especially when it comes to tournaments. I already have a Bixby motor and will be putting it on the Shearwater.

Cold water speed cranking
Me too but there's always something new to try. Kind of like when I got back into this bass addiction and did well catching 12-14 inch bass on wacky rigs and weightless t-rigs and felt there was no need to try big skirted jigs since the bass weren't that big, then decided to try them and caught much bigger bass in the same areas.

Cold water speed cranking
The quarry I was at was even colder on the other side.
