What's your Setup Baseline?
I kayak fish and bring four rods, three are 7 foot, MH/Fast, real gear ratio is 5.something:1. The other rod is 7'3" Heavy/Fast with a 7.4:1 gear ratio for topwater frogs, Whopper Plopper, and my bigger swim baits. I may switch out on of the first three for a crankbait rod.

Were you a country kid, suburban kid, or urban kid.
Born in Chicago, lived there until I was 8 back in 1972.. Moved to the far western suburbs when it was nothing but corn, now there's no corn for miles. So I guess it would go.........Urban, country, suburban..........lol

Pegged T-rig vs jig
I'm going to spend next season getting better at fishing with jigs. I just watched a video about Texas rigs which included the option of pegging the weight in place. If you're going to peg the weight why wouldn't you just use a jig?? Serious question.................

Technique
I also fell into this kayak trap....mid summer this year I decided to pick spots based on the conditions and stick to them. I wasn't always successful at staying with spots longer but I did get away from trying to cover an entire lake in a kayak.

Hollow body frogs. The most exciting............and most frustrating way to catch a bass! LOL

Best rod+reel for frogging
I have a 7-3 Heavy/fast Abu Garcia Veritas with a Lew's Tournament Pro Speed G reel with a 7:5.1 gear ratio. 65# PowerPro braid. Love it. I use it for my 110 Whopper Ploppers and bigger spin baits too.

New interesting creature bait
That looks like a good thing to put on my wife's pillow............or maybe not.......lol By the way, why are you angry?

what do you do with wet lures?
I have few that I put in a tray on my kayak......but usually I just put them back in the plano box. When I get home I open up any boxes that have wet lures and let them dry out.

kayak fish finder advise
I have a Hook 5 on my Radar, mounted on the pod. Based on my experience my only wish is for a bigger screen since it's kind of far from where I'm sitting. So I'd go with the biggest screen you can afford.

Another plopper question
I've got a couple 90's and 110's. I've thrown the darn things all season and had zero success until recently. All my catches were on Bone 110's. Slight chop or very calm conditions, and my retrieve has been two cranks of the reel, slight pause, two cranks, slight pause. Every catch has been during the pause or just as I start to crank the reel. I've caught 7 or 8 bass in my last three outings that I've used it. From 14" up to 18".

Cavitron Buzzbait
I think there plenty of situations where I can fish a buzzbait but there's no way to use a Whopper, too many weeds.

Favorite lunch when fishing?
I usually bring a few protein bars and a bag of trailmix. And a lot of water bottles.

Solunar charts
I'm with you on that. My biggest bass was when it was wet and cold. Then, one day in August, mid 90's, water levels were very low, high sun, no wind, water was like glass. I stopped counting bass catches around 25. The smallest was about 15" with a 21", 19", 18", 19" on four consecutive casts. I bet every bass in this pond was right where I was fishing.
-
Solunar charts
I don't base whether or not to fish, or hunt, based on the charts. Just looking for people's experiences. Maybe I'll actually track the correlation this hunting season and next fishing season.
-
Solunar charts
Who here utilizes solunar charts for fishing and finds them accurate? I've used them just for fun when hunting but find success or failure had more to do with the weather. Yesterday and today I noticed that yesterday was listed as average and I had a very good day, 3 bass over 17" in about 45 minutes of quick fishing, today was listed as poor and I caught a single 12" fish in 3 1/2 hours of fishing. Conditions were about the same.

BPS - Cabela's Merge
The Cabela's by me had been about half stocked in the fishing department most of the summer. I'm lucky that I have that or a Bass Pro about the same distance from home, but in the opposite direction.

15 pound braid for frogs?
I fish in really thick weeds, lily pads, and grass mats. I use 65 lb braid. It may be more than I need but it works great.

Not a bass, first Musky!
Always!

Is it likely that this is bass feeding on frogs?
Early this week I fished a small lake I'd never fished before. A lot of weeds, especially near the shoreline. I thought the surface commotion was bass feeding on frogs or chasing baitfish up near shore. Using a senko, back to back casts caught bullfrogs!
-
Ultra shallow/subsurface crankbait
I have a couple of 6th Sense wake baits that do just that.
-
Not a bass, first Musky!
Went out this morning in my kayak and the winds were insane. I headed to a shallow, weed choked bay. Using a weightless t-rigged Senko I hit something pretty big. As I was reeling it in I was thinking, "Man there are a ton of weeds stuck on this bass, this is heavy...." Then I saw it's head! 48 inches.
-
OK! Braid!
I was going to say the same.
