Help with weeds!!
I'd go with a Texas rig also. Or drop a weedless jig into it.

What Is Your Strangest, Unintended Catch
A big bullfrog on a hollow body frog.

How would you fish this?
Look for little pockets or channels that run within the weeds. Then do what scaleface said.

Help me breakdown small local lake
I've put Lake Fork hooks on the back of all my frogs. It helped a lot with hook ups.

Can dying battery give false depth readings
Fully charged battery and no issues today..

Help me breakdown small local lake
I'd also hit the edges of those thick weeds in that top little bay. Senko's with a wacky rig or weightless texas if the weeds won't let you use wacky. That part also looks like hollow body frog heaven.

Can dying battery give false depth readings
The other day I was out in my kayak and my Hook 4, which has been working flawlessly was giving readings of 100+ feet depth no matter what the actual depth was for the first few minutes. Then it started working right. After about an hour it started back at the 100+ depth again. Shortly after that it turned off. I hadn't charged the battery the last couple times out. It's all freshly charged now but it's driving me crazy not knowing if the weak battery caused the problem. It's going to be a few days until I get back out and was wondering if the battery can do that or do I have bigger problems?

Fishing- Passion vs. addiction
Haha, I'm lucky enough to be semi-retired at a fairly young age so I have summers off. I go 3-6 times a week. I'd say it's a passion...my wife would say it's an addiction.

Best Bass Fishing day of my Life!
Today I was actually thinking that after I caught a bunch I should have switched to a hollow body frog just to practice setting the hook if they were hitting it.

Best Bass Fishing day of my Life!
I was going to take my kayak to my normal lake but was getting a late start so I headed to the little suburban 5 acre pond behind my daughters house in a suburban subdivision. Surrounded by houses but filled with bass.......boy was that the right decision. The pond is basically an oval shaped bowl, Mostly flat bottomed 5-6 feet deep with a quick rise to the bank. A lot of weeds within 15 feet of shore, a few thick lily pad patches. When I got there the water level was down about 6-8 inches with almost zero visibility due to an algae bloom. After a few casts in the usual spots I headed to the far end. A street runs along that end and the shoreline is rock that runs down to the bottom. In the middle is a grated inlet with a metal grate. Drainage from the subdivision runs into the pond there. I figured, lack of weeds and some fresh, cooler water may make it a good spot. So I started throwing wacky rigged Senko's. I went through about 7-8 Senko's of various colors, apparently color didn't matter as in the next couple of hours I caught around 25 bass. Probably a few more but I literally lost count. They ranged from 12 inches to 21 inches. Other than the 12 inch fish the rest were all over 15 inches. At one point on consecutive casts it went 21, 19, 18, 19! Here's the 21".

Stupid Me but also a first
Last Friday I took the kayak out to an 85 acre lake and shortly after I got there the winds were hitting 20 mph, I stayed close to shore as I worked my way around the lake trying to stay out of the wind as best as possible. The water obviously had a good chop and water vis was next to nothing. After a couple of hours of not even a nibble I remembered reading that such conditions called for a loud and flashy bait. I put on my biggest buzzbait, silver blade, bluegill skirt, and started casting it into a shallow bay, 3 feet of water with weeds to within about 6 inches of the surface. I really cranked it back hoping to make a lot of commotion and get a reaction strike. Third cast I caught this nice bad boy at 17". It's my first ever on a buzzbait.

Fish catch success boat vs. bank in a 10 acre pond
I disagree that you're missing 85% of the fish. I fish a 15 acre pond that's basically oval with no structure. It hits it's max depth of 4-5 feet within a couple feet of the shore. I take my kayak out on it and catch 99% of the bass within 30 feet of shore. Basically hitting lily pads and under overhanging trees. I still use my kayak to get around on the pond. It's in a subdivision so the entire shoreline is someone's backyard. Nobody cares if you fish their yard and many do, but I would rather be in the middle and cast towards the shore. I caught my far and away PB, 8 lb 4 oz, 10 feet from the bank, fishing from the bank. I take back the no structure part........the structure is pretty much weed lines and the sharp rise from the bottom to the shore a few feet out.

What's your preferred method of fishing?
My favorite, but also most frustrating is topwater frogs. My go to that is most successful are Senkos, usually weightless in either a Wacky or Texas rig depending on vegetation.

The Annual Boom or Bust Lure thread - 2017 edition
Another Chicago boy here. For me the Wacky Rig seems to work almost every time and has kept me from being skunked, and hollow body frogs have been my go to with a lot of success all summer since I fish a lot of water with tons of weeds. I've caught something on just about everything in my tacklebox but have not caught a single thing on any spinner baits this year. Pictured bass was on a Wacky rig, from shore while I waited for a birthday party to start....

Need a new walking frog recommendation
For me color-wise I usually get a white belly, a yellow belly, and a dark belly, either brown or black. I don't think the color of the top of the frog matters.

How often do you catch a big bass?
Also, what are you using for lures/bait. Every summer I head up to northern Wisconsin with my family. My two youngest sons catch tons of little 1/2 pound bass. I catch several that are 3-5 pounds. They ask why I catch the big ones and they catch small ones. They are using small crappie lures, but it's because they like catching numbers. I use bigger lures because I like catching bigger fish.

Just one more cast! LOL
I had gone out in the kayak on Monday for about 6 hours and caught one 2 pound bass. Went out again Tuesday and had trouble fighting the winds, keeping in place, I was getting blown all over which made it hard to fish specific locations. After about 4 hours I decided to head back in and go do some chores around the house. As I was paddling in I noticed a steep drop off on my depth finder, going quickly to about 10 feet close to shore with a straight line of weeds on the shallow side. I decided, why not, one more cast with a wacky rig..........well, the proverbial "one more cast paid off with this one that came in at a little over 3 pounds, a nice way to end the day!

Favorites Box
I don't have a favorites box but when I go in my kayak, which is 90% of the time, I do bring my crate with all my 3700 series plano boxes, but.....................one box has the lures, plastics, jigs, that I think I'll use that day and I slide it under my seat.

Question about braided line...
I haven't done it but I'd think it's ok. I think the best thing to do is add enough line that only the new line (after the knot) actually gets cast, so don't just add 10 feet for example. In a post about how often to change braid in this forum someone posted about not replacing the entire spool of braid.

What's your favorite rod, power and action. What do you use it for?
This is my second year of getting back into frequent, serious bass chasing. Right now I have two rods, both are MH fast action, one was part of my first purchase, a combo deal. The second is a slightly more expensive much better quality rod. Obviously I use them for everything. My goal today is to head out and purchase a H/Fast rod for frogging as on the lakes I kayak fish around me I really to the hollow body frog a lot due to heavy weed cover. Plus it's a blast. I've been successful with the rods I have but since I always seem to have a frog tied on this purchase makes sense.

Fill one 3700 box for pond fishing
Since I mainly kayak fish, I generally have 5 3700 boxes in the crate behind me but one 3700 under my seat that I consider my box of the day. It usually consists of a couple slots of plastics---worms, senko's, crawfish A slot or two of jigs 3 crankbaits to hit different depths, sometimes I double up with different colors A lipless crank buzzbait chatterbait 2 hollow body frogs......light bottomed and dark bottomed Whatever new lure(s) I just want to try

Polarized fishing sunglasses with reader lenses
I've been looking for the same thing. I have sunglasses with reader lenses but they aren't polarized. I'm about to pull the trigger from this site but can't vouch for them yet. Very inexpensive but then again so were my regular sunglasses and they work great. www.renegadeeyegear.com
