Site Issues - slow reloads, failed refreshes

Featured Replies

Don't know where this should be posted, so hoping the mods will kindly move if needed.

I'm just curious... I love this site and am thankful for the community here.  And that's why I wanted to see if anyone else is having slow page loads and dropped connections when loading new pages of content here lately.  Not sure what's going on.  (Begin nerdspeak) : It seems to be a latency/lag problem rather than something like a DNS or relay issue... though I am on Comcast who's been playing a little loose with bandwidth of late.

Just wanted to raise the issue in case others are seeing things, too.  I know the site owners would want to know, and I hadn't seen it discussed.

Yep, same things here.  I know it isn't my connection or browser, for it is only happening here & no other sites.

Add to that the new limitations on pictures and there is definitely something not working properly.  I blame Russian hackers.

You are not the only one...

I have noticed it and I'm sure that the site administrator will be looking into this. They should be looking at the logs and contact their host provider to see what can be improved.

I've been having problems for a week or so . I just thought it was my computer acting up .

Ok... sorry if I missed a thread. Just thought that it was worth letting people know or checking whether it was something on my side.

Case closed - or, at least, pending resolution. :)

Been working on it every day guys.  Have made a lot of performance improvements, and it is getting better.  Will continue to monitor and tweak as needed.

Thanks for letting us know :)

@Glenn I have been in your shoes and when making updates and tweaking these site, a 1 sentence FYI goes a long way.  Without the notice folks question their own devises, then all types of post like this pull your attention away from the matter at hand.

Thanks for all you do, Al

What @NHBull said. And, @Glenn, it's still the best danged site on the web for fishing info!

Yep, been getting it to. All the same problems.

Thanks for working on it Glenn

Still happening...seemed to be better yesterday, but happening frequently again today...just an FYI.

I've been having the same issue. I think it's something to do with the DNS server responding slowly or improperly in turn leading to a slow page loading and the error message.  Nothing the server administrators can't fix with some time. Just my 0.2 cents

EDIT

or it simply might be that this is the best fishing website on the Internet and it simply cannot handle all the people looking to be informed :D

The problem appears to be an SSL issue. That might be in the server configuration, but in some cases it may in fact be a web browser issue if you are using Mozilla Firefox. Firefox is notorious for having problems connecting to some SSL setups.

It might help Glenn if everyone reported what type of browser they are using to see if there is a pattern. It might also help if everyone reported what time the problem occurred so he can compare that with server load logs.

I'm using Chrome  so it's not just Firefox.

Running Chrome here. Website has been slow for a while. Trying to load my notifications takes forever. If I open a page in a new tab, it won't load at first. I have to hit refresh to get that page to load.

Same problems here

I have the problem at work while using Internet Explorer but it is almost non existent. However when I get home and get on my MacBook and use Safari I can barley access the page at all and majority of the time have to use my phone only.

Thanks for all the hard work, Glenn!

Just a friendly comment that I am still having these issues. Seem to have gotten a bit worse to be honest. Using Firefox 54.0.1

Just an FYI - I'm fully aware of the issues and am working on them daily with developers and server administrators.  This solutions are complex and complicated, and could potentially disable the site if not done right.  So it's not a quick fix.  It's going to take some time to resolve.  I  don't have an ETA.

As such, I am closing this topic and will not respond to this or any new topics until the issue is solved; at which point I will reopen this thread with an announcement.

In the mean time, rest assured I know far more details about this problem than you, and am working on it as quickly as possible. There is no need to continue posting about it any more.

Thank you again for your patience.

Glenn

Alright, we performed some major work on the server, which appears to have solved the issues.  Please let me know if you see any further latency problems.

Thanks again for your patience!
