  1. Do yourself a favor and by something other than a Tracker as your jon boat, I have one that I use all the time for my backyard fishing excursions and golf course lake jumping, its transom is weak and separating, rivets leak, and aluminum is as thin as onion paper. I tried to polish it up a bit, but adding some no skid deck paint and painting it camo, but its still a sub-par jon boat when compared to Lowe, G3, or Alumacraft's offerings. Keep searching Craiglist and see if you can pick up a nice used jon boat, with all the accessories, make sure you get an outboard or have some type of rudder in the back if you mount a trolling motor in the front since the wind tends to blow jon boats around like a leaf. As far as starter boat, I started out with one and still will own one regardless of weather or not I have a fiberglass boat, they can get you to places other boats simply cannot go.
  2. I owned the Revo Premier when they first came out and thought they were great and then pulled my endorsement after having a bunch of issues, although I love my 2 Skeet Reese Revo models they are right up there with my Zillion and Core as a favorite of mine. I also own a Curado CU200E5 and love it as my cranking reel. So all in all, I would basically go with what feels and balances best on your rod. Go to the store, mount the reel on the rod, and see how it feels in your hands. With today's modern manufacturing processes and the engineering that goes into these reels its not so much a matter of what's best, but what's best for you, with that said I still hate QUANTUM, EVERY SINGLE QUANTUM REEL I have owned is CRAP, from bad bail mechanisms on Boca PT reels, to cracked reel seats, and bad worm gears on various baitcasters.
  3. Trilene, Palomar, Braid, Uni w/Palomar being my favorite all around.
  4. Who here replaces all treble hooks on their lures? If so what brand hooks do you recommend and why? What lures actually have good factory hooks on them? (I like Spro and Lucky Craft's choice for trebles but that is about it) Lastly, what split ring pliers actually work? The one I have has a large tip and cannot get into the smaller split rings without bending split rings out of round.
  5. I was catching too many pigs to change out his lure, I figured that his monster worm worked slowly would get a giant, but the Big EZ and Lipless were the ticket!
  6. Took my father-in-law out yesterday for a quick, 2 hour fishing trip, ended up being my best big bass trip ever. I caught a PB of 10-2 (10-8, 10-2 was my previous best) (Pictured with my father-in-law), a 7-2, a 6-14, 6-11, 6-8, and numerous 5lbers, I could basically do no wrong. I had a 33lb stringer easily.
  7. Bruce, You and I should get together I think you have about as much FREE time as I do, NICE BASS BRO!
  8. Point of diminishing returns, but in my book its worth it.
  9. Bada Bing! I have to hit up my canals spots up soon!
  10. I just bought a Daiwa Coastal to replace my Shimano Calcutta 200GTB on my swimbait setup and I really like it, not as buttery smooth as the Calcutta GTB, but much lighter. So I vote for the Daiwa Coastal.
  11. I think they are made by American Rodsmiths for Gander.
  12. Garage or indoor kept boats are ALWAYS NICE!
  13. This market is insane, I have been trading in and out of SLV, GLD, and DIG lately on the dips/zips, today all my upper end stops hit so I don't too greedy . I wish I had a crystal ball or oracle because either securities or precious metals are going to come tumbling down soon and I need to know which to short. Love the dip and zips, but how much longer? Any wise advice taken!
  14. Braid with leader would be my choice also,AbrazX is awesome!
  15. Most manufactures label their product with recommendations on mixing of oils, but if you completely drain the lower unit and replace with dino oil, there should not be an issue. I use AMSOIL synthetic marine gear lube SAE 75W/80W-90 in my lower unit, what did you use?
  16. I use both Sea Foam as a carbon buildup cleaner and Sta-Bil as a stabilizer. I only use Sta-bil after a day's trip and mix it in, so if I pump 20 gallons and use 10 running around all day, I used the recommended dosage for stabilizing the 10 gallons when trailering back. I use Sea Foam when low on fuel or every third tank at the cleaning/shock dosage. If you own a two stroke I would recommend a high quality synthetic 2 stroke oil such as Amsoil Interceptor Synthetic, that has plenty of detergents in it. I used a bore camera the other day to inspect my cylinders and valves and they were SHINY. Lastly, if you can get non-ethanol gas use it, but make sure you still use stabilizer for winter storage or if you are going to not use the boat for more than a month.
  17. Woodley Weedless Prop, where can I purchase them? I can't find any online retailers and when I call them all I get is a fax ping.
  18. Amen to THAT! Wish I could make it, but instead paid my $XX,XXX.xx tax bill
  19. Have two and like them, I would have to rank it right up there with the Spro. The detail is amazing and if that instills confidence in you great, but I think its there to catch fisherman more than fish.
  20. I have a small jon boat and a gheenoe and I HATE IT WHEN BASS BOAT COMES OFF PLANE to IDLE BY, would rather have them go by WOT or at least stay on plane, why because the wake is BIGGER when IDLING! Do onto others as you would like them to do onto you! Big boats with a huge displacement are entirely different though!
  21. Sorry fellas, I am swamped getting some last minute K1s and have been trading scared lately, so I am going to miss out on the event. Make sure you'll post up big fish pics and a report.
  22. One of MANY more I hope!
  23. Great show can't wait to watch this season.
  24. Took my father-in-law out today landed exactly 51, biggest only went 3 1/2! Had a bigger fish 6 to 8lbs follow and flash at the end of the day. I know where the BIGGER ONES are, but my boat could not get me in that 8" water to get to the deeper stuff behind it Fishing is so good there I am making it a point to go a least once a week!
